About Mrs. Starfish

Strike a Pose

May 11th, 2010 @ 2:36 pm by Mrs. Starfish

Mr. Starfish and I have a two hour gap between our ceremony and reception due to our Catholic mass. At first I wasn’t too happy about this because it will be an inconvenience for all of our guests, but then I started looking on the bright side. Mr. S and I will have time to have a fun photo shoot and still make it to the cocktail hour! I had considered doing a first look, but realized both me and Mr. S really want to skip it and see each other for the first time as we walk down the aisle. So this leaves no room for photos pre-ceremony, which means the gap is a great thing!

I knew I wanted to do fun photos after attending Sister Starfish’s wedding. One of my absolute favorite parts of her wedding day was what I like to call the “photo shoot”. She and BIL Starfish rented a trolley and drove around to different areas of Boston. They took photos with each other, with their families and with the wedding party.

They took photos in areas of significance, including Fenway Park, the location of their first date.

They took photos in standard Bostonian wedding locations including The Boston Public Gardens.

They took photos in random locations like at a t-stop on the way to other locations.

And they took photos in fun locations like a fire house!

I love the diversity in the photos. Multiple locations made the album so interesting! The wedding party had a blast. I think it helped to vary the locations and do quick stops at each. It made the ride interesting and fun! But, if you do the pre-ceremony shoot, make sure to have snacks ready for the group before walking down the aisle. We had one hour to relax in between the “photo shoot” and ceremony, and the food was greatly appreciated.

Mr. S and I decided we want a Trolley and want our own photo shoot with each other, our families and wedding party in fun, random, standard, and significant locations. But where oh where to have this fun photo shoot? You’ll have to wait and see!

Are you having a “photo shoot” at your wedding? What types of locations are you using?

We have a 3 hour gap. I’m super psyched to have the time to do TONS of photos. Photos are probably the most important thing to us, besides the wedding itself.

Our wedding is in one town where guests live, and reception in the other, so if need be everyone can go home after the ceremony, and it’s convienent. I do like to think that an impromptu party will pick up!

Also, it gives guest that plan on staying the night near the reception (in our book of rooms) time to pack a bag, get to the hotel, check in, have a drink & take the shuttle to the hall!

I know sooo many people are opposed to the gap, but it’s sort of a new thing to eliminate it - so I’m going with it!

We’re having a 2hr Catholic gap (as we like to call it!) We’ve rented a mega SUV limo for our bridal party, and a smaller one for us, to drive around the city (Nashville) and have all out photo craziness. I’m totally looking forward to it. Provided it’s nice out- that’s the only thing that has me nervous. Have you thought about what you’ll do in the rain?

We’re going to do fun photos around our venue - which is down the street from the state capitol and on a lake, so there should be tons of neat places to stop at.

Those are fun shoots! I really like the one with the whole party walking in a straight line towards the camera!

Those are so cute! I think a ceremony gap that’s short like yours would be a great opportunity to get some photos in! 2 hours isn’t too bad!

We have the “Catholic-mass-gap” too. But I figure we can make the most of it! Yay for photo shoots!

We went with what the WPJA website and a coworker of mine suggested: after the ceremony we fled the scene with the photographer and got a combination of much-needed alone time and some fun photos around town. Driving around in a convertible with a veil gets you a lot of attention!

I do like the idea of bringing everyone along, though. We did take pre-ceremony photos with the bridal party in a couple of interesting locations, but all the family shots were at the ceremony site.
