About Mrs. Hot Dog

So if you’ve been following along, you know that I already made a ring bearer pillow with one of my kanzashi flower. Welp, I decided that it doesn’t really “go” with our aesthetic anymore. It feels too cutesy, not very country-chic. I changed my mind, so what’s new?

Before that project, I had been looking at some pillow inspiration here. Looking back, I realized there are two that really stick out in my mind, this one and this one. You may recognize the fluffy flower from Mrs. Cowboy Boot’s wedding!

After some thought, I realized that the knit pillow would be the perfect match. It’s quaint, charming, and a clever nod to one of my favorite pastimes. It looked simple enough. Sew a pillow, knit a square, stitch it to the top. Easy peasy.

And it was. AFTER I had a little come-to-Jesus with my sewing machine.

Miss Hot Dog Vs. the Sewing Machine : wedding cheyenne crafts diy 2 27 1001 Miss Hot Dog Vs. the Sewing Machine : wedding cheyenne crafts diy 2 27 1002 You see that ball of thread? Ya, I did that. And it took me an HOUR to get it undone. The only thing keeping me going was this delicious, forbidden Rockstar!

After our little tangle (pun intended), it was finally time to sew the damn pillows. I needed two, so I decided on tan and pink.

But I wasn’t done. I still had to knit the squares to be sewn onto the tops!

After about 2 days (what, I work! Busy life!), I had these finished lovelies, all ready for our guys to carry down the aisle!

Aren’t these so cute!? I’m super excited to see them go down the aisle!

Have you had any, *ahem*, MISHAPS whilst creating some DIY loveliness? Did you show it who’s boss?

So cute!! If I attempted to sew, I guarantee I would have a mishap, but I’m glad you kept at it, they look great.

The pillow looks great!! As an FYI, Singer bobbins normally need to be placed in the holder counter clockwise. A little tip from me to you :)

Oh my gosh!! I’m so glad you were able to get the tangle out. I know how frustrating it can be when the bobbin tangles up like that. Those pillows are so cute! Great job!!

Very cute - I have yet to really learn to sew (other than sad, little 7th grade projects) - I’m jealous of your skills!

Yay! Oh me and my sewing machine have lots of come to Jesus moments. I am very familiar with balls of thread because to wonky tension. :( I am much more comfortable with a pair of knitting needles in my hands. Too bad a banned myself from knitting for the wedding (that is a black hole I don’t want to go down). :)

That was a pretty gnarly thread ball! Glad you showed the machine who’s boss. Me and the glue gun have a come to Jesus moment everytime I use it.

Those are so cute! And very doable… I’ll keep them in mind for ours pillows. =) I think all sewers get the thread ball at one point of their sewing history. ;)

My sewing mishap was when I first started sewing… I was making a blanket for my best friend’s teddy bear (I was young! Like under 10 young!) and I managed to sew my finger as I was feeding the fabric through. Despite screaming bloody murder, my mom did come up to my room. After having to unscrew the needle to get my finger out of the machine, I ran downstairs and shoved said finger with needle still in it in my mom’s face asking why she didn’t come up. Turns out she thought that my sibs and I were fighting again… But she freaked out and called the ER when she saw the needle passing through my finger. Luckily it was just the tip, didn’t hit bone or go through the nail so they said to ice it.

Since then, I’ve learned never to rush the sewing…esp when working on small things.
