Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! About Mrs. Lobster

It’s a Tux-y Subject

May 11th, 2010 @ 11:14 am by Mrs. Lobster

I have no idea how to dress my groom and his men. Since our wedding is in the deep heat of August in New York, I feel bad asking them to dress in a tux. Then again, it is our wedding day and shouldn’t they be able to sweat it out one day? Just one day? I will be sweatin’ my a** off in my wedding dress but I’m a slave to fashion — Mr. Lobster is too weak to endure that.

Nevertheless, I can’t let go just yet of our black tie dreams. One of my options include something like this from J.Crew - classic but updated black tux with bow tie:

Why, hello, handsome

I’m also feeling the very popular skinny black tie option which looks good on more slender guys:

Dr. McSteamy

Here’s how Mr. Lobster looks in a traditional tux. Isn’t he handsome?

Then to throw another wrench into the mix, we passed by this display at the J. Crew Liquor Store in our neighborhood.

Isn’t he contemplative?

And I started thinking, ‘what if we get more creative with “summer formal?”‘ This looks like it’d be very comfortable for Mr. Lobster and I’m a sucker for that casual vest look.

Decisions, decisions…

What look will your groom and his men be wearing? Did you struggle with dressing your groom his men?

I absolutely love the more casual look of pants and vests - that’s what we’re doing!

We are getting married in the middle of August in New Jersey. My fiance is bringing an extra shirt just in case he sweats through his. What am I saying just in case? He knows he will need it!!

I love the summer look! We actually looked into getting that very grey suit/vest set from jcrew, but got a really good deal at macy’s instead.

I’m usually iffy about bowties but I think Mr. Lobster pulls it off well!

I really love the casual vest look for our outdoor wedding too. That’s the look I originally chose, but my fiance was adamant on wearing a black tuxedo. I had no idea he even cared about his outfit but I guess it matters to him because it is somewhat his wedding too (kidding!). So that’s what we’re going with– all black tuxedos for the men.

I put this ball in my fiance’s court. I told him that whatever they wanted to wear was fine with me. At one point he was thinking white tuxedos which could have been pretty comical but in the end they went with Black Tuxes. We’re getting married at the end of july outside but our reception is inside.

Grrr baby — all great choices! You can’t go wrong with any of them but I also can’t resist giving my vote… I like the first pic of the Jcrew tux, best. And I’m not usually a fan of the tux but it’s hot!!

I really like the last J.Crew option the best. For our wedding, I didn’t really have much input on this. DH picked what he wanted for him and his groomsmen, and they all looked great. :)

We will definitely be doing the last look!
We’re getting married in an outdoor wedding in Mexico in October so it will be hot. Tuxes are too formal for us, and everyone’s done beige/khakhi linen suits–so we opted for the light grey vest/shirt/tie/slacks look. I think FI will look so hot in it, so I’m excited to see how he looks. I think we’ll throw in a fedora as well and maybe grey converses…

@Hola13: I’ll be sure to pass on this suggestion to the man. I left it up to him and he bought a tan suit. Which is exactly what I wanted for our july beach wedding!

we’ll be married in the heavy, humid heat of north carolina. Our guys are wearing wool 3 piece suits!! It’s going to be torture for them - all from up north and hate heat! We joked about wearing under armour underneath - probably a good idea!

after the quick ceremony & photos they’re free to just wear the vests - no jacket.

Well, a little. But I think we struggled less because we put it off, and now I’m at the point where I’m letting certain things go…

We ended up going with a classic black tux from Men’s Warehouse. The bridesmaids and flower girls are in navy blue (MOHs with light blue ribbon), the groomsmen and ring bearers are in black tuxes with a light blue vest, and the groom is wearing a black tux with a silver vest. The bridesmaids and flower girls are wearing silver shoes. I can’t wait to see it all come together!

I love a black tux on a man. For me, there is nothing sharper and better. I am in the camp that if I am wearing a fancy wedding dress for him, he had better dress up for me. To me, a fancy dress doesn’t look right next to a guy in a suit. Tux all the way!

mmm, I am loving the vested look in the last picture. So sexy on a guy. It says, ” I am good looking and I know it, no need to cover up my awesome maleness with a jacket!” (or something along those theatrical lines)
