Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

As I shared earlier on in our planning, I had a hard time with boutonnieres because Mr. Poodle told me over the phone that he didn’t want flowers at all.

So, I researched for inspiration and found some cute clover ideas (He asked me to incorporate clovers into our wedding to honor to his Irish background). After a while I was sold on the idea of making fabric clovers for the guys, so I got all my supplies and before I got to work I told Mr. Poodle how hard find inspiration for bouts that didn’t have any flowers. He laughed and told me he was just kidding and he would wear whatever I wanted! — What? Umm, Yeah I guess it was harder for me to figure out when he was teasing me over the phone. smile01

So here they are: The Poodles’ non-floral boutonnieres. smile01 To make them I used green satin fabric, a few sticks and some tiny pine cones that one of my MIL’s friends found while walking around the lake.

I folded the fabric and made all of the clovers by hot gluing them together:

After that I attached the little sticks and mini pine cones:

I added a piece of green felt and a brooch pin to the back so it would be easier for them to put on:

For presentation I printed on Kraft paper that I cut to the proper size, then folded and glued it together with a little message for each one of our family members.

And TA-DA! the boutonnieres were ready to be handed at our rehearsal dinner. I put a little ribbon at the top so they could hang the bouts with their shirts. smile01

I also made flower brooches for all the ladies. I used fabric leftover from my purple satin bolero and purple tulle from my dress, then added some lavender beads and a piece of felt to attach the pin to.

I also printed sheets for them and punched the bottoms just to make it more girly!

Here they all are ready in a basket! I made 10 of each! :)

I was very happy because the purple flowers matched everyones’ outfits so well. I was a little worried at first because I didn’t know the colors they’d be wearing, but everyone LOVED their flowers and boutonnieres! YAY!

Are you considering non floral boutonnieres? Where are you gathering your inspiration?

Gosh you make these projects seem so simple! Yet I suspect if I attempted them they would look nothing close to what you were able to accomplish!
