Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

I can hardly believe it, but today is our one month mark until the wedding!

How to Feign Cool Under Wedding Planning Stress : wedding emotional mountain view 080216

{Source}

And I’m sure only insanity is to follow! I’ve re-done my ’to do’ calendar, updated my lists, added making more lists to my lists, and am constantly thinking of one more little detail that needs to get done in the next month.

The closer we get to the wedding, the more little inconveniences like late RSVPers adding a guest, packages of supplies not arriving on time, and people reminding me how close it’s getting to the wedding are becoming more and more frustrating.

But all in all, I feel like I’m handling the stress pretty well. I come off as one calm, cool, and collected bride… at least to most of my coworkers and friends!

I’m usually the type of person who thrives under deadlines and pressure at work, but for a while there the wedding planning was really getting to me, as evidenced by a constant barrage of bad dreams. But after making my contingency plans list, and actually giving myself time to freak out, I’m now more in a constant state of anticipation, instead of constantly stressed.

That’s right, I’ve been allowing myself to have mini freak outs about the wedding!

Instead of bottling up my stress, or letting it take over every minute of my life, I’ve found that giving myself some time each day to get it out of my system has really done wonders! And I have the perfect time for it too, on my 45 minute drive home from work.

Every night while driving home, I go over lists in my mind, sweat a little, design our last few projects in my head, freak out about the details still left, and talk to myself. I even call myself and leave voicemails with things that need to be added to one list or another. I’m sure I look crazy to other drivers on the road, but giving myself this time to get it all out is really important. And because I’m allowing myself this time, I walk in the door and greet Mr. Cola in a much better, less stressed mood. And it doesn’t hurt that he offers to pour me a glass of wine while I change out of my work clothes, either!

So if you’re feeling stressed out about wedding planning, maybe try setting some time aside for yourself, and just let it all out. It’s worth a try!

What methods work for you to relieve wedding stress?

2 months for us… having mini-internal freak-outs every other day. :) For us when I freak out, we take a little bit of time and work together on getting something done off our list. Makes me feel better- even if its small and trivial.

1 month for me too!… well 1 month + 1 day. I strangely feel calm about everything. I still have lots to do - last minute small projects, shop for cuff links, buy ties, hope FI ring comes in, book rental car, find get away car…

I’m not in full on panic mode.. yet. I may just steal that cute clip art you found tomorrow on my blog! Good Luck!!

Cola — you and I are the exact same. I’m in the exact same head space as you right now….and I agree, everyone saying “OMG! It is SOOOO close!” doesn’t exactly make my blood pressure go down. Since I have a similarly lengthy commute, I’m going to try your idea! Hugs, deep breaths, and lots of patience to you during your last month!

I am almost a year away from all the “just before the wedding” freakout sessions, but I know they are coming. I like the idea of allowing yourself to be the crazy task oriented,, must get it all done now, bride for a few minutes sometimes. I’m also sure that Mr. Cola appreciates it too.

1 month! So close! That’s a great technique and so what if other drivers think you’re crazy!

I’m right at one month, too (well, minus one day!) :)

I think I could’ve written this post. I was freaking out about 2 months out over everything, but just decided instead of stressing it was time to tackle something wedding-related every day. Even if it was just small.

And then, let go!

I feel you on people reminding me how close it is. I just tell them, “Shhhhhh” and then smile :) They get the point!

Wow! It all goes pretty fast. May your day be beautiful and filled with happiness. Laugh even when it’s not a part of the plan.
