About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!

We Fly Like Paper…

We Fly Like Paper... : wedding cake decor georgia Likecra likecra

Remember how I had all of those really adorable cake toppers picked out? And I was having trouble deciding between them all? Spirit animals and all that?

True to form, I scrapped them all, and we’re doing something different. Two cranes. Cranes will be our wedding spirit animals—God knows we have about eleventy billion of them. Maybe we’ll throw a heart in there too. Cheap, easy, and works with our stuff.

Initially, I thought about having them sit directly on the top of the cake, but feared that the dye from paper would run into the icing. Big messy ew. Scrappity scrap scrap that. I’ve made the executive decisions that they will “float” with the help of some rods stuck up the center. If that’s not romantic, I don’t know what is.

Without further ado and blah-blah, here are some mock-ups. First up is the set of forward-facing cranes. Miss Ribbons thinks that they look judgmental, and I see American Gothic. Weird birds.

Next up are set-ups with the cranes facing each other. They’re a little more cuddly this way.

I lean towards either of the big heart ones, but I could change my mind 40 times before the wedding, and it wouldn’t make a difference. Oh, the beauty of having a topper in separate parts!

Is this an awesome cake topper idea, or one destined to be totally boring?

Which combo should we use?

I like crossing with a big heart! But the beauty of this (like you said) is that you can change it right up until, well, you’re busy being a bride! :)
LOVES me some cranes. Currently debating all the ways of stringing/hanging we’ll be doing….Definitely some mobiles in the works! LOL.

@Mr. Bowtie: M.I.A. = W.I.N.
@Miss Stripes: Stringing is way awesome and fun. I’m doing that for our Smilebooth backdrop. Whoring those babies out. :p I wish we could do mobiles, but there’s nothing to hang them from. :)

I vote other. I picture them each angled 45 degrees (so they make a 90 degree angle). One has his/her head nuzzled under the neck of the other. Undecided on the color and the heart, though I think I like the heart.

I like facing with a little heart best, but I think key is facing or crossing and with a heart.

i did not like MIA’s recent video. She totally attacks gingers. Not cool.

I vote for facing with little heart

I like them crossing the best, when they’re just facing each other it looks like a stand off.

Crossing/nuzzling with a little heart :)
Reminds me of the love birds we had atop our cake (their necks were intertwined but not nearly as creative/DIY as this!) I just found your blog today and have read/stalked a good bit of it, 1) Because you live in GA (like me!!) and so few bloggers I’ve discovered do :( 2) Because you are so goshdarned creative/sassy/fantastic! :)
