Making Merry

May 12th, 2010 @ 9:42 am by Mrs. Pug

So, guests found their tables. And hopefully they looked at their menus. What were they waiting for? Us! I don’t remember what happened because we had not planned on doing a “grand” entrance, but we had one anyway.

We were introduced by none other than my brother in law, who did a fabulous fabulous job as the emcee for the evening…

While I had been anxious about having a no-dancing wedding, I’m here to let people know that you can have a fabulous, fun wedding reception without dancing. I love to dance, but it wasn’t in the cards for our wedding plans and I can honestly say that I didn’t miss it at all.

The evening was so full of friends and family catching up, getting to know each other, laughing, eating, drinking, and celebrating that we were overflowing with good vibes and good times. Dancing would have been great as well, of course, but I’m just saying that it’s okay not to have dancing—your friends and family are there to celebrate you and they know how to have a good time without dancing. Ultimately, it was our guests and their energy that carried the evening (as did our scheduled toasts, the shoe game, and cake cutting—gotta provide some structure, you know?).

What do you think is the most important part of getting a wedding party going (for both dancing and non-dancing receptions)?

Your reception looks wonderful! We too are not having dancing (we’re doing lunch and restuarant is just too small) so it’s really nice to see that it can (and WILL!) work out for us too. Thank you for sharing!

What a fantastic reception!
One of my best friends didn’t have dancing at her reception, and it was one of best weddings I’ve ever been to. The night flowed wonderfully, and everyone had a great time!

When you had open mic time for your guests to give speeches how many of them actually gave one?

@MsBrooklynA: this will obviously vary from wedding to wedding, but we had 4 scheduled toasts, and then 3 “open mic” toasts. my sister and husband actually casually went from table to table earlier in the evening and mentioned to folks that there would be an opportunity to say something, so people had a chance to get ready. i’ve also been at receptions where it was completely spontaneous and 10 people took a turn at the mic.

i meant to say “my sister and her husband”. mr. pug did not go around soliciting toasts in his honor, that would have been funny.
