Mrs. Veggie's Picture
Mrs. Veggie, Raglan, New Zealand/Scranton, PA Age and Occupation: 27, Director of Small Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 42, PhD Student & Farmer Engagement Date: June 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Indian Head Camp, Honesdale Pennsylvania About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.
About Mrs. Veggie

Mama Veggie came through big time this week. You see, we are about 4 months (yikes! I mean 3 months) away from wedding day and I still hadn’t seen actual pictures of the inside of our venue. There are numerous reasons for this. Because of the whole double booking debacle, we were in a bit of a rush to book a new venue. Which meant booking based on website pics only. Granted, this picture is gorgeous, but it leaves a lot to the imagination… namely the entire interior.

I’ve been asking for interior pics, but the camp director’s wife just had a baby and so he’s been a little out of the loop lately. Which is totally understandable. Oh yeah, and then there’s the fact that we are planning from approximately 8 billion miles away and so there’s no way that we could actually go visit the venue ourselves.

I was starting to freak out a little.

How could I plan lighting like this without knowing what ugly fluorescent monsters we might be dealing with?

How do I know how many poufs I need to make to make this dream come true, without knowing what the ceiling is like?

But, true to form, Mamma Veggie pulled through. Thanks to her driving what I am guessing was about 2 hours out of her way on a recent trip, I now can put to rest some of the nightmares running through my head.

Here is the interior of the dining hall.

It looks great! Dinner on one floor and dancing on the other. I think my DIY lamp shade idea will work perfectly with their existing globe lights and my poufs might just work along the slanted roof of the lower level. Ugly Chairs. Hmph.

But wait. What’s this? Pics of our rainy-day ceremony backup location, the Play House.

And some new questions have emerged. The biggest of all being, “Can I let a beautiful room like this go to waste, or should we move our reception here?” Of course it would be easier to have it in the dining hall where there is a kitchen, and tables, and chairs, and cutlery… and a parking lot. But it’s just so pretty. It makes me think of my original idea of having our reception in a barn.

Convenience or beauty? I’m torn.

Four months out - I’d personally go for convenience. Plus the dining hall looks great with all that wood and the split level areas. Besides, with all the stress you’ve had with the venue change, I’d say the less stress (renting chairs, tables, cutlery, etc.) - not to mention cost - the better.

I love those high ceilings but they’re going to be really hard to decorate. Stick to your original plan.

I’d talk to your caterer and the venue to see how difficult the switch might be, and then decide.

Talk to the caterer, then after you have all the facts, go with what your heart tells you to do, though if I am just giving a straight up vote, it would totally be for the playhouse.

Oh man, I like them both! I hope you do white lights for decoration too, I think it’s be perfect! Also, I don’t think those white chairs are ugly at all, way better than the standard ballroom chair :)

If the caterer can do it, I say go for beauty! You’re pictures are what you’ll have at the end of the day, so pick the space that you feel best about! Both options look great, though, so I think it’ll be a win no matter what you choose!

i agree with the others–if the caterer can manage, then go for the beauty!

I like both options, but if you really like one better, see what they can do! I love how they are both blanl canvases, you’ll have so much fun putting it together!

I do really like the rainy day back up place. Those arches by the windows are stunning! I concur with all the others, talk with the staff about the feasability. You can always do some pictures by those windows.

beauty beauty beauty. it’s your wedding and it only happens once! also, i wonder if there is a way to hang your lamp shades around/over the existing globe lights. i think it would make them more attractive and make yours easier to light!
