Ms Seahorse's Picture
Ms Seahorse, Boston Age and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-trades Fiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something better Engagement Date: October 17, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Fort Pond Lodge About Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
About Ms Seahorse

So sometimes life gets in the way and I can’t write nice things about my life or our wedding.

Today, lucky you, is not one of those times.

Tonight, I would like to talk about hair. Unfortunately, I do not have as many pictures as I would like to show you my many fabulous hair experiences, but I will do what I can.

In the internet wedding blogging world, everyone talks about hair. They show their hair up and down and in a ponytail. Here are three pictures of me with my hair up, down, and, um, swept to the side?

Uh, spunky, right?

Pageboy much?

current hair, swept to the side (plus pretty ring!)

So that is my current hair. In fact, I took those pictures, goofy face and all, just now, just for you. You’re welcome. For everyone’s entertainment, though, I thought I would post some pictures of my hair over the years – not chronologically, but from shortest to longest. Comments and laughter welcomed.

This was at a folk festival, the first time I shaved my head. I LOVED this, though I don’t think my parents would for our wedding, and I do factor in their thoughts on some things. I think hair is something not worth fighting over.

Short and simple, On my first road trip with Fancee, and in a fit of belligerent silliness.

The fauxhawk meets swoop hair. At a derby event with my derby wife. Face cut out to protect the innocent. :) There was a sign on my arm that said “I’ll hit you for a dollar,” and I’m pretty sure I made a couple bucks that night.

Fauxhawk hair! Our first date! Derby prom ‘08. She’s so pretty. :) It was her first prom ever! I think we went home at 9, and talked about getting married after a beer or two. Or just one. Okay, it was half a beer.

Fauxhawk take two, with my little brother in the background. Post-derby photo shoot. (Um, I am not flipping anyone off, I am simply rocking out, rock star style, and accidentally cut off the rest of my hand. Sorry for any misunderstandings.)

The bob. Simple and sweet. This was in college, presenting a study I had done.

The bob, again. Earlier in college. Like? Don’t like? Tell me your thoughts. I think I could get here by September if I wanted to…

Make with the Happy! Or, Embarrassing Hair Pictures : wedding boston hair 222 22

Looong hair. This was just before I cut off 11 inches to get that cute bob up there. The 11 inches are all packaged up nicely for Locks for Love and are still in my apartment somewhere. Don’t tell Fancee.

Scowl! Long hair is hard!

So I’m not thinking anything super fancy for our wedding, but I want to be able to do something, so I’m growing it out now. I’m not sure I love my long hair, but I am interested in hearing your thoughts.

Also, re: wedding hair, I love the idea of a delicate headband or something with leaves on it, if I can make it feel like me… what a strange thing, that some things look good but still don’t feel authentic, and that hair can be one of those.

Are you a short hair bride? What are you planning for your locks for your wedding?

I think you look adorable with the bob, but I think it may be too innocent looking for your personality? Haha. Not that I know you, but you seem spunky and fun and I think the fauxhawk meets swoop best suits that plus I think its just awesome!

I also dig the funky headband idea.

Oh and P.S. I LOL’d when I read the part about your ponytail being somewhere in your apt.

Having a chin length bob myself, I’m partial to it - but otherwise I like the short and simple.

I 100% agree with @MissCamera!

But if you really want to grow your hair a bit and do something different….why don’tyou grow it like to bob length and do something cool with spunky waves or something?

I love the bob as well! I think it would look great! But then again, any woman who can pull off hair as short as yours is now is pretty awesome in my book! lol. So really I guess it depends on how you like to wear it because the short hair cut is super cute on you!

Honestly? I like your hair now the best, especially in the first, “spunky” photo. It seems the most authentic. The bob is adorable but I feel like everyone has that hairdo. Your short hair is more unique.

I think that it would look amazing with a cute headband from Etsy.

I was a very short haired bride and I didn’t do anything radically different with my hair for the wedding except to make sure that every single piece of hair was in the exact perfect place. And I totally understand the headband not feeling like “you” - I tried out several hair accessories and they all just felt strange on me, even though they were all cute.
Anyhoo - I think you could rock the short hair or the bob. If you go with the bob, maybe some sideswept bangs would add something new and different?

I vote wear it as you have with a headband or other accessory that you love! But then I wore my hair a little longer than your bob (only curly) and have since grown out my hair, after the wedding. I think you should wear your hair however makes it feel like you because you look adorable in all of these.

I really like the early college bob on you. I also have a braid of hair somewhere in our apartment to donate to Locks of Love and I’m sure FI forgot it’s there. Also, what’s Derby? Did i miss something?

I recommend the faux-hawk with killer eye shadow. Or maybe not, but it is my favorite of the pictures!!!! I’d try for the bob if you think you can get there, because then you have the most options, and worse comes to worse, if it is the day before the wedding and your hair feels unauthentic you can cut it off! Much easier to cut the day before wedding than to add 4 inches…

I love the bob. I keep my hair about that length generally anyway, so that may explain my preference.

You have had a lot of flattering styles though, so really go with what you’re most comfortable with. You want to not only look your best but FEEL your best at the wedding and going with a style you don’t love anymore won’t make you feel that way. :)

The bob is pretty, but the very first picture would be super cute with an awesome headband!

I would maybe grow it out a little. Not as long as the bob. Something short and choppy and sexy.

I’m totally jealous of any woman who can successfully pull off a pixie cut, which you totally can! I think a delicate headband would be so pretty!

I love the bob, and you could find a funky, statement-making headband that would fit your personality more than a delicate one…maybe?

But I also love the first picture of your hair now!

I really like the current hair, as well as the faux hawk and the bob. They are all fun.

I’ve spent two years painstakingly growing out my hair. I love it, but I look back japanese style pixie cut and miss it! Short hair is so versatile.

I agree that fun hair accessories will be in order. OR dramatic earrings.

I think you should rock your short hair with a headband. I think too many people get convinced that their hair needs to be long, just because they’re having a wedding, but short hair is just better on some people! I think yours is super cute and if I were you, I wouldn’t struggle with growing it out.
