Getting Down to the Skivvies

May 14th, 2010 @ 12:18 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

Here’s a doozy: my mom took me lingerie shopping. Not that I’m exactly into the sexed up stuff that would really embarrass me, but it was still a little strange picking out thongs with my mom.

To keep the experience light and not make my mom think I was a dominatrix, we stayed classy at Bloomingdale’s. For some reason they were passing out champagne, which certainly helped along the whole experience. Our list was brief: one robe or cover-up and a bra and panty set for some unknown purpose on the honeymoon. Off topic: does your mom play dumb when there’s any mention of sex, whether it’s on TV or someone in person makes a reference? Because my mom does and it’s the funniest crap. I digress.

My mom picked out the robe, a sweet ’70s throwback in chiffon.

For the lingerie set, I picked out something on the subtle side. Remember, I was with my mom.

You can’t tell from this picture, but there are bitsy glitter dots all over it, making it less of a snoozefest.

My mom was so very generous with the lingerie gifts, but my honeymoon bedtime wardrobe wasn’t complete. I’m a big time believer in the romper, so I snatched one up from Target.

To top it all off, I dug through my underwear drawer and found all of the lingerie I’ve been too lazy to wear. Yes, I am too lazy to wear pretty underthings. I’ve promised myself that I will only pack those pieces in the honeymoon bag. Well, except for one or two pairs of cotton briefs for the plane ride and hiking day!

How have you handled your honeymoon lingerie? Any awkward familial involvement?

Yeah. I went lingerie shopping with my mom too. I actually went because I needed to find the right bra and slip for my dress, but my mother, in contrast to your mother, really wanted to shop for lingerie lingerie with me. I told her to forget it. Too awkward for words. My mother does not avoid mentioning sex. She likes to see me squirm.

My mom totally plays dumb at the mention of sex. Its like I will always be her innocent 4yr old child in her mind. Too funny!!!!

My Mom bought me lingerie (nothing crazy)!. And is very open about sex.. She can home with a gift bag 5 pairs of panties, and two “sets”.. Was not quite sure what to think at first but hey it was all really cute/sexy.

My mom told me that my girlfriends can take me shopping when it’s time to buy my underthings. I think I’ll do it alone :-)

I am so not doing this with my mother, haha. But I actually haven’t decided! Mr. Taco’s not huge on lingerie or otherwise complicated undies, so probably nothing fancy.

My grandmother actually sent me a skimpy white nightgown for my birthday this year. When I called to thank her she informed me that that gown was to be saved for the honeymoon. Talk about awkward….

Well, my mother and I tend to avoid the topic, and I will probably shopping on my own or with some friends for that. But here is what I am marrying into… My future MIL and I were shopping for a winter jacket for snowboarding for a christmas gift for me (she wanted my input because she has no clue what snowboarders need/prefer). Anyway its red and white and as we were walking up to the checkout counter in the department store we walked by the undergarment section and of course there were tons of red and white bra/pantie sets hanging on the wall for christmas. She starts to walk over towards them, and asks me if I like any of them and that we could get a “Matching” present for my FH… awkward! I was like ummm… She figured I could wear them under my new coat and surprise him… Yeah about that…. not to mention the fact that it was the really cute section in which I fit into NONE of the bra’s.. they just don’t make bras sold at department stores in a Size D…. Anyway luckily the boys were waiting for us at a nearby store looking at videogames or something so i rushed her to get back to them so they wouldn’t be waiting too long… haha. Oh well, i guess I know better now to scope out those sections and avoid them when shopping with FMIL. Anyone else have very OPEN members of your FH family?

My FI and I have been living together the past 3 years and my mom still thinks I’m the perfect, pure white flower…

I thought I was the only girl too lazy to wear pretty underwear. I’m glad to know I am not the only one. I have it, it’s nice, but I never really wear it.

HAHA my mom said I HAD to have a sexy piece of lingeriw for the wedding night, and continued to persist about it… even mentioning it EVERY time I saw her (and mentioning that my grandma bought her two “outfits” for her wedding and hid them in her suitcase, only to be found on the honeymoon)… my mom is a lot more flamboyant about sex than I am, so I just bought something a bit more conservative, and showed it to her, to hopefully avoid her hiding something in my honeymoon suitcase!

haha.. i think i’m in the minority here. my family is very open and doesn’t hesitate to talk about anything. my mom have been lingerie shopping once already, and she wants to go again to get my wedding night outfit. she’s coming to the bachelorette and everything. we’re weirdos, i guess.

haha yeah I would feel awkward lingerie shopping with my mum for sure! She pretty much avoids any mention of sex…and my dad is like a 12 year old boy if it comes up (he giggles!). So yeah…just not a subject for us.

I didn’t shop for Lingerie with my mom she tends to ignore those sorts of things. I did go with my Aunt who’s more like a big sister even though she’s 19 years older than me.

My mom got me 2 sets for my bridal shower. One was nice and sweet….the other not so much. it was really weird to open them up infront of his whole family and my grandmother!
