Mrs. Scissors's Picture
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GA Age and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic Design Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad Student Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house! About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
About Mrs. Scissors

We changed our first dance song.

Yes, yes we did. Oh, didn’t you know that it was good to make big changes a month before the wedding? Well it is.

If you remember, our original first dance song choice was Ingrid’s The Way I Am.

It is no less sweet, no less perfect, and no less of an amazing song. We just realized we had a better choice right under our noses. “ORLY?” you ask? “LET ME SEE!” you say? Hokay.

The song that bumped Ingrid from the top spot is Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy by Queen.

Why this change?

  1. Um, it’s Queen. Mr. Scissors and I both have a serious love for Queen. Serious. Freddie makes me die.
  2. This song is one we actually listen to. I’m not gonna lie– “The Way I Am” isn’t on our big playlist of life. It’s a great song, great lyrics, etc., but we don’t rock out in the car to it. GOFLB? We do. I turn my fist into a microphone and Mr. Scissors rocks out on the air guitar.
  3. It’s a fun song, lesser-known but (in my opinion) instantly lovable.
  4. Queen. Freddie Mercury. OK, moving on. Point made.
  5. The lyrics? Get out adorable.

There’s a great beginning…

I can dim the lights and sing you songs full of sad things
We can do the tango just for two
I can serenade and gently play on your heart strings
Be your Valentino just for you
Ooh love- ooh lover boy
What’re you doin’ tonight, hey boy?
Set my alarm, turn on my charm
That’s because I’m a good old-fashioned lover boy

Or how about a mushy middle…

When I’m not with you
I think of you always
(I miss those long hot summer nights)
I miss you
When I’m not with you
Think of me always
Love you- love you

And a strong end…

Ooh love
(There he goes again just like a good old-fashioned lover boy)
Ooh lover boy
What’re you doin’ tonight, hey boy?
Everything’s all right
Just hold on tight
That’s because I’m a good old-fashioned fashioned lover boy

Wonderful.

Thankfully MOH Laura is a rock-star dancer, and will teach us how not to fall all over ourselves trying to boogie to this. It’s not exactly a stand-there-and-sway song, so wezagunnahaffta practice. We’re lucky that it’s a fairly short song.

Did you change your first dance song, or were you solid from the beginning? Those who are doing “faster” songs, how are you handling the dance routine?

Very good choice! I’d never hear the song before, but it’s classic Queen, and very groovy!

OH SO MUCH FUN! I love exciting first dances. :) We thought of doing the Gipsy Kings’ Volare, but had to change our song when we realized how hard it would be to choreograph… WAY too fast! We still did a pretty quick-tempo song, and it was a lot of fun!

I am so with you on the Freddie Mercury love! My mother always had Queen records playing when I was little and it has just instilled some deep down obsession with them. Way to choose a great song, and to find one that suits you both so well.

Adding to personal playlist now. Love. And the visual of you rocking out to this makes it even more amazing.

We have about four Queen songs and a Rolling Stones song we are debating between for the same reason, had one picked but it was just not any real reflection of us.

Um Queen is the shiz-nat! I’m thinking our walk down the isle after the ceremony is going to be to “You’re my Best Friend” by Queen. Love Freddy!

I love it! I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song but it’s perfect. We also chose a light-hearted, more fun selection for our first dance. We just didn’t want it to be stuffy, and we wanted it to represent us. It was such a fun 3 minutes!!!

I like this song! Fun and cute! We’ve been looking for a song to use as the last dance. I think this would be great first dance or last dance.

I think this is a great song! I regularly sing the “Ooh Loverboy!” to the Mr.

I die for Queen as well! Any time there’s a jukebox I will pretty much play the full album (oh yeah, people love that! notreally)

At the school where I teach, we have Kindergarten Graduation. Each class learns a song and sings it in front of all the families before getting their “diplomas”. It’s adorable. Anyway, last year I was going to teach my class “I Can Tell That We Are Gonna Be Friends”, but switched to Queen’s “We are the Champions”. It was frackin’ amazing! They loved the song so much that all we listened to the last week of school was Queen (they seriously couldn’t get enough!)

Love the choice! I think it will be much more unique and fun! And…um…its Queen…like you said ;) I heart Queen big time. P.S. have you seen the musical “We Will Rock You” yet? Because if not, you need to…

The Ingrid song is our first dance, but I do love that you switched to Queen.

great song switch, it will get people in the dancing mood!! Good luck with the practicing, I look like a one legged horse trying to dance, and the FI is no better, he does this weird hip thrusting thing and calls it dancing, we are in trouble. . . .
