About Mrs. Seashell

When people ask me how wedding planning is going I’ve started to reply, “I’m like a greedy child who ate too many cookies.”

I'm Like a Greedy Child Who Ate Too Many Cookies : wedding emotional providence Girl Ea girl-ea

(source)

Meaning? Well, let’s just say I’m a planner. That’s not even the right word. I just like to get things done. I love checking things off a “to do” list. I’ve got my baby names narrowed down and I had our wedding date circled in red ink after we’d only been dating a few months. I started decorating our condo before we had our closing, and I write down what I wear in my planner so I don’t repeat outfits too often. And, fine, I’ll get real:

I’d booked our venue AND photographer before we were engaged. Yep, I just admitted that. (OMG.)

So, I feel like a greedy child who ate a plate of cookies because with 5 months to go my wedding feels planned. Done. Literally, completely, entirely planned. Complete. I ate ALL the cookies. My organizational fun is over. Any detail that is left is too far off to complete. While most brides are feeling hopelessly overwhelmed and would love to coast for a while, I’m feeling the complete opposite.

Am I crazy? Is anyone else craving more work? Has your bridal energy exceeded your “to do” list?

I felt that way too about a lot of things. Wedding was in September, and June rolled around with almost everything already done. Way to think ahead!

I’m a little bit like that myself.. the second we got engaged I got a lot of things done, so now I’m waiting. The only problem I have is that now I feel like I might have missed something.. lol

Good for you!
Yyyyeah I was climbing the walls a few months ago waiting for the next project to roll around. I’m hoping to have everything DONE at least two months before the wedding.

I had the experience about five months. Then all of a sudden two and a half months later that little vacay was over and it sped up so quickly! Enjoy this little rest, you’ll appreciate it soon!

Um yeah, I had a spreadsheet going with lots of info before we were engaged (to help keep me sane while waiting for the e-day). And once we were able to book our venue (they only do it 1 year out from the date), we had the rest of our vendors selected within 2 months - except the DJ because that was FH’s job. He got to that 2 months later.

I made myself follow a calendar and only tackle projects as they were “scheduled”. It’s allowed me to relax but still then I still get to enjoy the process, because I’m NOT trying to do everything at once - and it helps me kind of savor the experience.

That being said - I’ve been working on our invites since March (I never realized how ridiculously long it takes an ink-jet printer to print a single page - much less 140 of them).

I am also a planner. I make a list for everything and not having a plan makes me nervous. With a two and a half year long engagement, I find there are some things that I just can’t accomplish until the wedding creeps closer.

I dislike that nauseated feeling that things aren’t getting done because I’m waiting on, say, the hotel because they won’t block rooms so far out or the bridesmaids who are still set on losing weight and don’t want to pick out dresses a whole year ahead, which in real life is more than reasonable, but in hyper planning/organizing mode makes me like the kid who wants the cookie and can’t have it yet. LOL

yeah, I totally booked the venue and photographer before we got engaged too :) (I actually scheduled the e-photos too…I totally admit my craziness!)

We decided to get married and set a tentative date before the ring came in/the “official” proposal…so I had picked a venue/photographer too! But, at 11 months out, we still didn’t have our pick of dates, so i’m so glad we did!!

OMG that’s hilarious. I just read that to FI and he asked how you hacked into my brain and wrote that hahah it’s EXACTLY what I have done. Now Im starting to redo things I already did (table numbers etc) because I have time, and more creative ideas… he usually just sits back and laughs!! Feels like you’re in my brain!!!!

I was the same way. I kept coming up with new projects in the months leading up to the wedding, even the week before! I spent all this time looking at wedding blogs and getting new ideas, and did so much DIY! So fun.

Hahaha…yes. While I did not go to the point of booking my venue before we were engaged, last summer I spent countless hours on secret spreadsheets with possible wedding options. My fiance was so impressed when we did get engaged about how quickly I pulled the trigger on booking everything. Little did he know, I’d been planning for at least 6 months already :)

HAHAHA!!! We’re getting married on a cruise and they will literally plan EVERYTHING for you (and insist that they do). So, what have I done? CREATED things for me to plan. Seating arrangements at every dinner, daily letters to be delivered every day to the rooms of all of our guests, I’m even making all of our flowers since the Dept of Agriculture won’t allow live flowers to leave the dock. Thank you for making me feel like less of a nerd for wanting to plan so much!!!!!
