Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. About Mrs. Taco

Nailed It

May 17th, 2010 @ 6:02 pm by Mrs. Taco

Since people started looking at my hands (er, hand) more often, I’ve been getting manicures more regularly. Me, my appendages, and the Fancy Fingers salon by my office are all pleased as punch over this development.

I usually pick a nail color that goes with my outfit for the wedding, weekend getaway, vacation, or whatever. But I was stumped over what to do for wedding day. French manicure seems to be a standard, right? Well…

In addition to the photos-as-decor fiasco and playlist-related snark, the Tacos also have a not-the-end-of-the-world disagreement on French manicures. I don’t love ‘em, nor do I hate them. It’s not a bad look for brides, bridesmaids, or anyone going out on the town, if you ask me.

Mr. Taco hates them. Like, really hates them.

*shrug*

But since I didn’t want to distract my groom, the French manicure was out.

I didn’t want too much color to upstage more important objects like his hands, my flowers, rings, or dark shoes. I didn’t want opal digits, either; too white and too iridescent against a very white-ish outfit, veil, and hairpiece.

Fret, fret, fret. One first-world problem after another. Until today, after I picked OPI’s Catch the Garter, a pale pink, for May Bride S’s nuptials:

Nailed It : wedding beauty san francisco Device

Personal BlackBerry photo; excuse the hideous lighting

Yes to:

  • The name. Can I get a hell yeah?
  • The fact that I picked it over another pale pink solely for the wedding-oriented nature of said name.
  • Looking good! I love it. Gals with darker complexions may pull off a pale pink better, but it seems like this could go a long way for many opting out of the Frenchie.
  • The fact that it provides color, but does not distract.

What are you doing with your nails, aside from not biting them or smashing them in anything? Any non-Frenchie suggestions?

Your natural nails are so nice! I have short stubby nailbed… I’m jealous! I am going to go the french manicure route, but I think your current manicure would be just as pretty for your “day of” nails :)

I’m with Mr. Taco - I hate french manicures. Essie and OPI have several collections dedicated to brides/weddings. I like your look.

I did pale pink on my nails and am fair skinned. I thought it was classy and understated.

I like french manicures - but only really on acrylics and gels - I’m a nurse so I can’t really have that - and it seems silly to pay to have them put on when I’ll have to get then soaked off 4 days later (we’re only having a 3 day honeymoon.

So I’m just painting mine natural ones pillar box red !!

I side with Mr Taco too, NO FRENCH MANICURES…I love OPI soft pink colors. The ones I often go for are: Its A Girl, Privacy Please, Pinking of You, Sweet Memories and Passion. Sometimes I’ll do one coat of Passion and then one coat of Pinking Of You. LOL!

You have exceptionally nice looking nails! They are like the smoothest nails I’ve ever seen!

So funny - I was just talking about French Manicures this weekend. I was saying that I don’t think they’re necessarily “out”, but they’re not “in” either. The last time I even considered one was as least 6 years ago.

My wedding nails will be a super soft pink a la one of OPI’s lovely bridal options.

If indeed the title of this post is in reference to Andy Bernard = awesome.

i adore nail polish and despise french manis. my new favorite nude is OPI’s Samoan Sand. It’s a brownish/beige option for anyone that doesn’t want a pinky nude, though clearly, the name isn’t as exciting for a bride. let me know what you think?

any other nude suggestions?

My nails are crap…aka break, split, never get long, hang nails. So, even though I too am a nurse, I’m springing for acrylics (NO CHIPS!!!) and taking them off after the honeymoon…and they’ll probably be frenched!

I hate nail polish and am just going for “hey look it’s my nails” wedding day look, haha. I will get a manicure though, so they don’t look ragged.
