Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Can I Tell You a Secret?

May 17th, 2010 @ 1:55 pm by Mrs. Argyle

I do not like to DIY.

Gasp. I said it. Please don’t judge me.

I love to craft. I mean, practically my entire childhood exists within several scrapbooks I put together. But, I can hardly muster the energy for a DIY project. However, I do LOVE to see everyone else’s DIY projects (some serious envy going on).

With a guest list nearing 300 (yes, you read that correctly), DIY-ing anything for that many people makes my head spin. So, I’m a big fan of PSE. You know, “Paying someone else” to do it (a phrase keyed by friend Meagan).

Here’s a little background:

1. I originally thought we could hang our paper lanterns. And, then 20 seconds later I snapped back to reality. Who am I? Nuts? So we hired Exclusive Events to handle the hanging of our paper lanterns, and to do some other fantastic event production decor (lighting, mostly).

2. I had this grand idea that I was going to hand-tie all of my bridesmaids’ bouquets myself using flowers from St. Louis’ Floral Market. So, why did I change my mind? Well, I realized I didn’t want to worry about it the week of the wedding – not worth the stress. And, I decided I wanted my girls to carry clutches instead. Problem solved.

3. The second I saw these awesome chalkboard speech bubbles, I knew I HAD to have them for our photobooth.

And, then I thought about how I didn’t really want to find a band saw to cut these out. Plus, I stumbled upon these. They’re so much easier, and they have sticks – making it easier for our guests to use in the photobooth.

So, hive, you don’t hate me do you, now that I’ve confessed my DIY aversion? Are you doing a lot of DIY projects for your wedding or are you leaving it to the pros?

Haha! I just finished making my own conversation bubbles for our photobooth! I would totally PSE, if we could afford it though. But with only a 100 person wedding, it’s much easier to DIY things. I wouldn’t even attempt it if I had as many guests as you do!

Confession: I have not done a single DIY project thus far for our wedding. So you’re not alone!

You’re funny. I love the idea of DIY. My issue is different than yours - I’m too much of a perfectionist, and simultaneous clumsy. Not a good DIY combo.

Since I’ve started following the wedding blogosphere, I’ve gotten a bit overwhelmed by the amazing creativity and DIY projects that other brides seem to produce to easily! I would like to do a few smaller DIY projects, but wouldn’t be able to take on too much. Glad to hear someone else feels the same. I have a limited budget, but I also have limited time, so for some things, we will be PSE (so loving that phrase - well-coined!)

@Miss Cola: 100 is totes manageable! I would do it then!

@hilsy85: Woot to non-DIYers!

@krissybee: I designed our entire invite suite - but I call that DIY lite :)

@Miss Seashell: I’m quite a perfectionist myself, but managing 300 menus or escort cards or programs makes my head spin.

@alivoo01: So glad there’s another PSE appreciator out there!

Meh. I think with DIY, you need to balance your time vs. money spent. Not everything needs to DIYed to make your wedding personal. Only do it if it’s fun and makes a good memory for you.

Found them. Perfect. Although my mister thinks of himself as a star with a jig saw, so I might delegate… Nearly as good as PSE!

I am PSE all the way. A friend of mine is getting married a few weeks ago and is up to her ears in DIY, while I am kicking back and loving the PSE. A low stress level is priceless in my book.

I’m a wedding planner, and I can make nothing. I can put together invitations, that’s about it. Oh, wait, sometimes I can make dinner, but this is REALLY just about it. I am totally into DIY you can buy, especially DIY you can buy for less. So, I totally understand. Nice pulls in that department, by the way.
