Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

I didn’t just sew, paint, cut, hot glue, and assemble. I did this:

What Did Mrs. Poodle Did the Days Before the Wedding : wedding diy san bernardino 13 sweets1

I baked tons and tons of cupcakes, cake-balls and mini cupcakes. To be exact:

  • 350 cake-balls
  • 250 cupcakes
  • 220 mini cupcakes

I know, it sounds crazy! But after reading Mrs. Sprinkle’s adventures baking her own vegan cupcakes, I though it could actually be fun! So I talked to her and she gave me a few thoughts about when to make them! Even though I was a little intimidated by the idea, I proceeded to plan and BAKE! I LOVE baking!

I made different flavored cake-balls and dipped them in different colors of candy melt.

I made:

  • Brownie with cheesecake frosting balls covered in white candy melt
  • Vanilla cake with pecan frosting covered in green candy melt
  • Strawberry cake with fresh berries and strawberry frosting in purple candy melt
  • White cake with cheesecake frosting, pieces of Reese’s and chocolate chips in brown melt

For all the Chocolate cupcakes I added pieces of Reese’s in the bottom. Mr Poodle LOVED them!

For the top of the cupcakes I bought button molds at Candy.com and made different colored buttons. smile02

I got a lot of help from our bridesmaids and groomsmen:

Yes, they baked too! smile02 While we waited for things to be ready, everyone worked on different things:

My mom helped me arrange all the napkins and get everything ready so Mr. Poodle’s aunt (who volunteered to be in charge of the dessert buffet) would have an easier time. I marked all the containers and made signs for everything, that way she knew where everything was.

I planned for each guest to have about 5 sweets between the cupcakes, mini cupcakes and cake-balls. Then I made this sign:

And hung these bags with each guests’ name:

with this cute hand painted pins:

I thought there was going to be enough, but I guess the bags were too big and some people filled their bags and carried some to their table, so my math went out of the window and by the time we started the reception there were no more sweets left!

I am happy there were no leftovers, but I regret not making more. But you never know if you will have enough: in Mrs. Sprinkle’s case, she had leftovers, so I was hoping for the same, but she didn’t offer bags, so that might have been my problem.

I loved the dessert buffet and the fact that all of our guests did, too! I know making your own dessert buffet is not for all brides, because there’s a lot of stress involved but I had so much fun making it all and Mr. Poodle loved to be my taste tester.

Are you thinking of baking your own cupcakes or cake?

Brava, Poodle! Everything looks simply delectable! Mind sharing the recipes? We DIYed Oreo Truffles (ala Mrs. Spring Roll, who makes it look so effortless!), but never again! TOO messy, TOO much work. We ended up sort of running out of cake –everyone got a piece, but there wasn’t enough for 2nds, which everyone was clambering for. Our caterer mistakenly thought we wanted to preserve the top layer, so we just enjoyed it the next day with my in-laws and their extended family…mmmm.
