About Mrs. Pug

Sign My Butt

May 18th, 2010 @ 10:21 am by Mrs. Pug

There’s a fuzzy line between joyously, tastefully celebrating yourselves as a couple at a wedding vs. unwarranted ego-centric narcissism.

For some reason, I thought of this guy

And on which side falls a guestbook that is comprised solely of engagement photos of you and your loved one? Well, because this is what we did, I’m saying that it absolutely falls on the side of justified and tasteful.

Remember our Halloween-themed engagement photos? I decided to put those bad boys to use by making an album of them for guests to sign. So, it was totally like a regular guestbook, except plastered with pictures of me and Mr. Pug.

The two popular places from which you can order your photobook are MyPublisher and Blurb.

Mrs. Ramen ordered from both companies and wrote a great, thorough comparison. Overall, you can find great reviews (and some meh ones) about both, but with Mrs. Ramen’s review and my own finely honed instincts, I went with My Publisher.

Using MyPublisher was easy (although choosing the photos and template layouts was time-consuming because I had to exercise free will), and in about five days, we received this:

Here’s a look inside:

My favorites of the bunch:

At the wedding, we set up the book on a table with pens and a sign (Word-designed and inkjet-printed) asking people to leave us a note. I love the messages that people left for us, and nobody came up to my face and told me how narcissistic I am. Our photographer, CK Hwang, captured the following photos of our guestbook in “action”:

It was clear when people had had a cocktail before signing our guestbook. One lengthy message began with congratulatory wishes and then devolved into berating me that I should give Mr. Pug cheese more often and let him eat cheese as much as he wants because it makes him happy and isn’t that what I want?

Wow, if that isn’t advice to live by, I don’t know what is.

Are you going to use a guestbook? If so, what kind?

Super cute! We were just talking about this last night…I’m hoping to post about it soon - we had to get creative since we don’t have e-pics! I love that you were able to incorporate yours!

Mrs. Ramen’s review was back in November of last year; as someone that jus recently ordered from both, many more options and features have changed since so it the review of both companies is a bit outdated.

Blurb offers premium paper with both a matte and gloss finish, so it’s a matter of preference. The biggest difference between the companies is that MyPublisher is done primarily in landscape, so depending on your pictures, you can’t have true 8×10 photo pages, as much of the detail will be cut off. Blurb is more a portrait book - if you want to have more landscape photos, you can do a photo that goes across two pages (which I’ve done and it’s amazing), or pay a lot more for the uber large 12×12 book (which I didn’t want).

I made a book for ourselves with MyPub, so I could have one look; and our guest book I used Blurb. The quality of both is impeccable; it always helps if your photos are of high quality.

The guestbook looks just awesome :-). I love your e-pics! And cheese is just awesome. I think it should be a food group all it itself, hehe.

if cheese is the way to a lasting marriage, you’re all set! That’s a cute photo album. I was going to do blurb for the wedding album, but now I think MP would be best. Thanks for that link of reviews.

If we are going to do a guest book, the way you’ve done it would probably be best. If not, we were either going to get a small canvas and have people sign it, or get one engagment photo, and stick in in a frame with a large white border for people to sign. That way we can have something to hang up that’s personal. By the way, how many pages did you make yours? What size is the book?

I’m excited about our similar book. We went to a wedding this weekend that did the Polaroid thing and they looked great, but the camera was a bit intimidating. I just hope we don’t get too many funny “yearbook” type quotes. :)

I think the best messages are probably always the ones after at least one cocktail…love the book, great idea!

Love how the guest book turned out! I used MyPublisher to make a parent album and was really happy with the quality.

Oh, and the cheese comment is great advice. Definitely something I try to remember every day in my own marriage… :D

Note to self: cheese=happiness. Love your guest book! We just had people sign an empty photo matte. And they got confused and signed the inside of it, where the picture would go, which would not show. Sigh.
