Two things guaranteed to excite me are wedding cakes and breaking out my suitcase to travel. About Mrs. Sunbeam

Oh, the first dance. We’ve all seen the YouTube videos where the bride and groom and sometimes their bridal party break out choreography that makes you say, “I wanna do that at my wedding!” Well Mr. Sunbeam and I attempted. We took a few dance lessons and learned the two-step to My Lady’s House by Iron & Wine.

Let’s just say it went OK. We tried! Even though it makes us blush, I’ll share the video in case you are interested in our two-step attempt.

For those of you who skipped the video, about halfway through we switched to 8th grade classic slow dancing! Hehe. It will be one of those moments we never forget for so many reasons and photographed moments were beautiful!

It’s harder than I expected to get up in front of everyone and dance! Besides being nervous in the first place, the two-step wasn’t very ’us’! We started the dance lessons late, when Mr. Sunbeam’s nerves hit, so we didn’t really have time to mess around trying out different dances. So for all of you considering choreographed slow dances, I say go for it, but make sure the dance moves fit you so they feel more natural and start them early so you can try out several options!

As for the father daughter dance - don’t skip it! Even if you and your dad don’t want the spotlight together, maybe just pick a song that the two of you will dance to when it plays. It’s a special moment not to miss. I picked Father and Daughter by Paul Simon for the father daughter dance. It was a bit fast paced, but we made do!

I love our serious moment above and how it turned into silliness below.

Mr. Sunbeam and his mom also took the dance floor and danced to Upward Over the Mountain by Iron & Wine.

After the mother-son dance, we invited all the couples to join us on the dance floor. It was our secret ploy to get them up before the dance music started! It worked!

Up next: We hit the dance floor and you’ll see, even more so, why lights can make a huge impact on your photographs! Then, we’re off to the Sunny Honeymoon!

Did you, or will you take dance lessons for your first dance? How was your first dance experience as husband and wife?

All photos were taken by RAD photography with occasional additional editing by me, unless otherwise noted.

I was thinking we wouldn’t be taking dance lessons, but my dad taught me how to ballroom dance when I was young and wanted to do some type of ballroom dancing for our father-daughter dance. Well, I think it would be weird to do the 8th grade school dance for our first dance and then bust out in a choreographed dance with my dad… we’ll see!

Cute photos! We’re taking lessons, but we’re starting VERY early, because we’re both completely uncoordinated!

THAT is my absolutely favorite father daughter song. My father and I no longer talk, but that song makes me want to have him back in my life.
