About Mrs. Sunrise

Dress Shopping

May 19th, 2010 @ 2:10 pm by Mrs. Sunrise

Over the Labor Day weekend, my sisters (Bridesmaid N & Maid of Honor C) drove 4 hours to visit me. I always have a blast when I am with them. We are very close in age so we all get along so well. If you wanna see me in my rawest, most comfortable state, catch me with my sisters. I can talk to them about anything from rainbows to butterflies to dildos, haha. And we always laugh it up. Best of all, they don’t really mind all my nonstop wedding jibberjabber… at least I don’t think they do. I’m sure it was a nice break for Mr. S since he still complains that I talk about the wedding too damn much. I really don’t know what he’s talking about! ;)

I went to my dress appointment that Saturday with my ladies as scheduled. Bridesmaid S met us there. I had such a fun time trying on dresses and having my wonderful ladies there to zip me up and lace me in. It gave me a tiny glimpse of what the morning of the big day might be like, and I got a little giddy. I believe that it is really important to surround yourself with strong-minded women that you can really trust. Instead of inflating my head with fluff that they think I want to hear, they will tell me straight up if I look like a clown. And that’s why I love them so much! :) I wish that my two other bridesmaids and my mom could have been there too.

And hey, guess what??!!

Did you guess yet? Okay I’ll tell you…

…I FOUND MY DRESS!!! Yes I did. Actually, Bridesmaid N and Bridesmaid S found it. They both immediately took a fancy to it when they spotted it hanging among the dozens of other dresses. I didn’t care for it at all because it was not what I had envisioned as my “dream dress”.  But they told me to try it on anyway and let me tell you… as soon as I had it on, I did NOT want to take it off! Can I say I felt “pretty” in it? Yes, I did. I was twirling and grinning from ear to ear. I had previously tried on what I thought was my dream dress but it did not have the same effect on me. That’s when I knew that this was THE ONE. This little number that I almost rejected because I didn’t think that I would like it. Little did I know! I wish I could post a picture here but the mister has admitted to lurking my blog from time to time, so I won’t. But I can tell you that it is beautiful and elegant and feminine. It is perfect and I absolutely love it!!

So my advice to all the brides-to-be that have yet to find a dress: Try on everything! Even the ones that you don’t think will look nice. Don’t dismiss any other styles, because you may be pleasantly surprised.

Did you choose a dress that you never thought you’d like? Who convinced you to try it on?

The first dress I tried on was just to please my mom, because it was more of a ball gown than I ever wanted. But as soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one, and after 5 or 6 more, I came back to it, tried it on again and stuck with it. I went in thinking vintage lace, but my ballgown makes me feel like Belle from Beauty and the Beaty

Do you have pictures of the rejects that you can share? I love dress pics - even if they aren’t the one you chose!
Unless you went to the Wedding Shoppe, I don’t think they let you take photos there until you buy the dress . . .

I had the same experience with my mom! I hated the dress she loved on the hanger and almost made her put it back on the rack. Good thing I tried it on just to appeaser her . . . it wound up being the one! I assumed I knew exactly what I wanted and what would look best since I’d worked in a bridal salon. Should have know to always listen to my mother! =)

@ktisthatbees: Sorry for the tease! I did give you guys a sneak peek at one of my e-pics though, to make up for no dress pics. :) haha. Didn’t work? Okay, I promise to post a dress pic soon. But can you please come threaten Mr. Sunrise for me? He’s not afraid of my death threats.
@Goldilocks1107: I did go to the Wedding Shoppe on Grand Ave. That’s where I found my dress! We were able to convince the lady to let us take photos since we had a private room and it was the last appointment of the day. She said no at first but then gave in and said okay. I love my dress too much not to share– I will post pics of it soon. :)
