Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
About Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Month-a-versary

May 19th, 2010 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Can you believe it? It’s already been a month since we got married! I feel like a junior high girl counting my relationship in terms of months, but being a newlywed is so great, it’s hard not to recognize the milestones however little they might be.

So what did we do to celebrate? We pulled out our cake’s top layer.

Now before you scold me and say that I’m supposed to save that for the one YEAR anniversary, not one month, let me tell you how big the top layer of a cake really is. Do people consume that whole thing on their one year anniversary? It’s got at least 12 pieces, if not more! Why wait and eat cake only once a year when I can have delicious cake once a month!

So that’s just what we did. And wow, was it delicious. We both only got the bite we fed to one another at the wedding, so this was the first time we really got to try our cake. Yum.

And, for Mrs. Pug because we know she loves an artichoke (yes, each of those is a post dealing with artichokes, I know there are more, but I figured 3 was good), Mr. Fro Yo looked at the center of our Magnolia flower and said, “Why is there an artichoke in that flower”?

In his defense, it does kind of look like an artichoke, but that’s what their centers look like! Anyway, for everyone still planning their wedding, look what you have to look forward to after the wedding––cake every month! Yay!

Is anyone else going to eat their top layer of cake each month? Or are you following the rules and going the one-year-anniversary route?

We nixed the top layer because it was going to add $50 to the cost of the cake (it would have been a 6 inch cake!). We figure we will get a new cake to celebrate one year instead of eating expensive stale cake. It’s also practical since the cake would thaw out on our journey home unless I could get the flight attendant to keep it frozen for 7 hours lol.

Firstly, happy one month-aversary Fro Yo’s!! Secondly, the cake EVERY month is a fantastic idea!! We don’t “have” a top tier, but whatever’s left at the reception is definitely getting boxed up to be consumed the following days!!

We brought out our cake top the very next day at our morning after brunch and shared it with all of our friends and family! (It was big enough for 30+ people to share!)

I like that idea! We are actually planning on having family to our suite the night after the wedding to eat the top layer after dinner. We won’t e able to freeze it on our minimoon, so we might as well enjoy it then!

Such a great idea, I wish I had thought of this! I loved my cake, but can’t imagine that it will taste nearly as good as it did 5 months ago.

We won’t have a top layer to freeze. Our baker makes a fresh “top layer” for us a year later. Although fresh is ALWAYS better part of me is a little sad that I don’t get to freeze it LOL.

I’d thought the icing around the cake was part of what kept it fresh. I think if you kept cutting it and then putting it back in the freezer the exposed cake part would have to be wrapped really skillfully to keep it from drying out. But if it means cake once a month, go for it!! Keep us posted on how the flavor holds up from month to month.

we had enough cake left over to slice it into 11 pieces and freeze them. we have 1 slice each month and we still have the entire top layer for our year! we literally count the days until “cake!” each month…nom nom nom.

beautiful magnolia! I love magnolias! Since we are not coming home after the wedding (mini destination location followed by 7 day honeymoon cruise–whoooohooo!), I don’t think we’ll be able to save the top :o(

That’s IS a great idea! Will you put it back in the freezer each time? The flower is beautiful! I’m jealous. As you know, our cake(wreck) top went missing. :(

My husband and I totally broke out our cake at one month, for the same reason — it was HUGE. Also, I didn’t want to wait a whole year and risk it being nasty after 12 months in the freezer. :)

enjoy each month! there’s nothing wrong with that. it’s been two months for us and we dont have cake because it would not have lasted the 11 hour drive we had from NY to TN but I am pretty sure we’re gonna get a good cake for our 1 year
