Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

I was the luckiest person ever the week before my wedding because of the amazing people who surrounded me and helped me in the days leading up to the BIG day. Tuesday night before the wedding day, one of my high school best friends, A, flew in to hang out and help.

The Wednesday before the wedding, the theme of the day was WAX. Yep, you heard me, wax. Bridesmaid CH, Bridesmaid AT, and HSBF (high school best friend) A joined me on the adventure.

Suffice it to say, yours truly got nearly everything waxed in preparation for my wedding day and honeymoon… and A got her eyebrows waxed in solidarity.

Week Before the Wedding: Waxing and Harrison Ford : wedding beauty frederick pictures recap I I

Me, A, and CH

We began the day in Georgetown, a neighborhood in DC known for great shopping, fun restaurants, good bars, and a bit of snobbery. After a very fast and very good priced Brazilian ($30 for less than 10 minutes of waxing, with not a hair left…), we got lunch at a great little Italian restaurant. We paused long enough to commemorate the experience with some photos.

Me and AT

After lunch, we visited illustrious Georgetown cupcake and saw them filming an episode for the show of the same name. The cupcakes were nummy!

Since A had never been to DC before, I took her and CH on a driving tour of the monuments and museums.

A in the car

Believe it or not, after about ten minutes driving down Constitution avenue, we saw HARRISON FORD standing at a crosswalk. We have NO photos because were in utter shock. It went like this:

Me: That guys looks like Harrison Ford (nods at tallish man in black trench, with silver-grey hair and goatee/small beard)

A and CH: Yeah, he does

All of us, as we drive closer and then past him: IT IS HIM! IT’S HARRISON FORD! HOLY SHITE! HE JUST LOOKED AT US! HE KNEW WE KNEW HIM! HOLY CRAP, TURN AROUND, LET’S FIND HIM AGAIN!!!

I know exactly what I would have said to him if I had gotten to meet him: “I love you, you’re so handsome, I loved you in Indiana Jones, Regarding Henry and The Fugitive. Can I get a photo and will you tell Calista hello for me?!”

We returned home after this brush with fame, and when it appeared that we wouldn’t be able to start the cookie favors as we had planned, A, CH and I left to get my hair trimmed (had to rid myself of those split ends before the wedding hairdo!) and then get eyebrows waxed.

A playing with some funky nails

Word to the wise: when a woman tells you that you may look ugly and have nasty chin hair in your wedding photos and you should get it waxed, and you know for a fact that yes, you do have sparse, blonde NORMAL hairs on your face (as all humans do) don’t let your bridal brain give in and agree to a complete face wax. You end up looking like this:

After waxing everything but my forehead and cheeks, the stylist promptly proceeded to tell me that I had dry skin and began rubbing lots and lots of lotion on my face. All I could think was “if this gives me zits on my wedding day, I’m gonna kick her ass.”

A got her eyebrows waxed and CH was suffering from facial sunburn, so we commiserated with each other:

We ended the day making some cookies, but I’ll share that fun with you all in a coming post. :)

Have you ever spotted a celebrity or been conned into getting your entire face waxed?

Almost every time I go to get my eyebrows threaded, the woman asks, “oh, do you want me to do your upper lip too?” Um, I have normal fine blonde hair on my lip, so no, I don’t want it removed thank you very much!

Mr. Octopus and I love the show The Wire that was on HBO, and the other day we walked right past one of the major characters pushing his bike up the sidewalk. He and I did the most ridiculous, cartoonish double-take EVAH. Totally random celebrity spottings are awesome!
