Bride Brain

May 20th, 2010 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Frog

As you get older, you have more and more friends who get married and eventually start families. From those friends, I’ve become familiar with the term “pregnancy brain” – are you all seeing where I’m going with this?

Just like “pregnancy brain”, I believe there is similarly “bride brain”. Some uncontrolled combination of internal and external forces that cause a normally level-headed, fully functioning woman to become forgetful, clumsy and just plain ditzy.

I’m telling you, I’m not a clumsy girl – I don’t trip or fall, I don’t knock things over, I don’t forget things easily… but so help me, since getting engaged, bride brain has completely set in.

Bride Brain : wedding emotional phoenix Broken Glass broken-glass

(source)

As of now, my tally is up to:

  • Two broken glasses
  • One broken vase
  • One broken olive oil bottle (my favorite cooking bottle… this still makes me sad and created a huge mess)
  • Multiple cooking/baking burns (in one instance I grabbed a scorching hot pan handle with my bare hand – not even 30 seconds after pulling it out of a 400 degree oven with an oven mitt… I’m smart)
  • Multiple instances of walking into a room only to forget what I walked in there for
  • Multiple bruises from bumping into furniture that has never moved
  • Forgotten my laptop power cord at my office at least twice
  • And this last one…yikes…I completely spaced on placing stamps on the RSVP envelopes, which I didn’t realize until Frogger pointed out the mistake after being already half-way through the invitation stack – oh and did I mention that they were wrapped in velum and tied with baker’s twine? Yeah… awesome.

And in the effort of being completely transparent… Frogger had to help me with this post by reminding me of the many things that I’ve dropped, tipped over, grabbed, bumped into, forgotten, etc… It’s beyond sad.

Please tell me I’m not the only one suffering from this ridiculous syndrome. And yes, I’m dubbing it a syndrome, I dare any doctor to tell me otherwise.

Aww! You’re not alone. I was totally there. I also left lights on all over the house because I would forget to turn them off. I never do that. And I forgot what I was looking for when I went into rooms all the time. you just have to keep so much straight, it gets very difficult!

That is me pretty much every day of my life. Before I got engaged, and I’m assuming for the rest of my life. You have no idea how many bruises I have from literally walking into doors and walls. I’m a huge klutz.

Aww, it’s okay Frog. I’m already clutzy but now that I’ve become engaged, it’s gotten so much worse. Isn’t it awful? I burned my fingers when I was trying to get a baking dish out with my oven mits. Somehow they just happened to touch the oven rack for a moment. Ouch for sure! And I’ve grabbed a hot pan handle too and I walk into things all the time. It’s awful.

The syndrome has not yet come into my life but I have a little bit of time before the wedding (about 18 months). I have these problems right now in normal life, so I can only imagine what it will be like when I get into bride mode full scale. Good luck with the time you have left with bride brain and I hope it gets better in time for the Honeymoon.

Haha, you’re totally not crazy! As soon as we hit the three month mark, I feel like I lost it! Over the past month or so, I have been ridiculously scatterbrained! I haven’t necessarily been clutzy, but I’ve been forgetting about papers until the night before they’re due, missing my exit on the freeway, etc.! Glad I’m not alone! :)

I couldn’t help but laugh when I read this post because it is sooooo true! I recently started taking Birth Control in the midst of my planning and I thought that the pills were doing it to be but I guess it is just the “syndrome”!!!! I can’t wait to have my normal brain back! I have been so spacy!!!!

i had something like that back during grad school finals. i came home and promptly, but unknowingly, tossed my keys into the trashcan. hey, it isn’t fun wedding planning until something is broken, so it’s a good sign!

I haven’t injured myself or broke anything but I missed my year end evaluation with my vice principal, which is something I have never done before. It’s gotten to the point that my students are confused because most of the things that come out of my mouth don’t make sense.

I LOVE IT!!! It is so incredibly true I can’t even believe I’m not the only one hahaha… even my supervisor at work has been laughing at me…. I’m a very organized person with a great memory, but lately I just stare at her with a blank face when she asks me a client’s name… it’s brutal! She thinks its hilarious… as does FI! I did up a bunch of invitations forgetting to number our response cards, even though I have the entire list in front of me (and remembered to fill the number of guests invited on the response card, from said list!) It’s funny but frustrating at the same time!!!

is that what it is??!?! i’ve been seriously ridiculously paranoid because of the over abundance of dropsies and emotional overload that’s been happening since he ‘put a ring on it’. glad to know that i’m not crazy!!!!! i’m sure it’ll get better, right?

Ha That is my everyday self. I’m lacking in the grace department. Just in the last week I’ve broken a vase, stemware, and a couple glasses. I’m smooth like that. We won’t go into the bruises, cuts, scrapes, and falls that I put myself through regularly. I’ve been told I’m going to spend the 3 weeks before hand wrapped in bubble wrap in a padded room to make sure I’m not all sorts of bruised up when I walk down the aisle.

I am getting married this Saturday. I am always a klutz, so that’s nothing new, but I misspelled my own name yesterday. I also gave someone the first three digits of my cell phone number and the last four of my home number. When I called back and told the lady that I made a mistake because I my mind was elsewhere due to the impending wedding, she said it happens all the time.

It’s just a phase. I’m kinda jealous–I am clumsy most of the time, breaking things and knocking things over. Be thankful this isn’t normal for you.

Now I have pregnancy brain, which means forgetfulness.

Oh, last thing… when this post was first up, it had Penguin’s icon instead of yours, even though your information was in the right-hand column. Weird!

Oh man i HATE spilling oil! Once at work I knocked a bottle of sesame oil on the ground. It shattered, and the oil was all over my feet and in my shoes. Literally two seconds later I knocked a bottle of chili oil over. Same result. I couldn’t move b/c then I would track the oil everywhere. I had to stand still while the other cooks cleaned up around me. Argh.
