About Mrs. Octopus

Font-o-Rama

May 20th, 2010 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Octopus

You guys, I freaking love fonts. (”Lots of unusual fonts” is basically the closest we’ve gotten to a wedding theme, after all…). I have a thing about font consistency—I always notice and appreciate it when companies (or websites, or blogs, or obsessive-compulsive brides) use a recognizable series of fonts in their products.

So, “pick wedding fonts” was an item on my to-do list that stared me down for weeks. Yes, really. I finally spent a rabid 36 hours rampaging around on DaFont, and after a few missteps and failed trial combinations, I picked out the fonts I’m going to use all over our DIY paper products. I mean, don’t get it twisted, it’s not like there’s going to be a ton of DIY paper products to behold, but hey. The things here and there that I DO make will have a badass font scheme all over them!

Font-o-Rama : wedding pittsburgh stationery Ecuyerd

This is one of the fonts that was all over our save-the-dates. It’ll be all up in our invitation suite’s business, too. I love you and your regal little lines, EcuyerDAX.

Font-o-Rama : wedding pittsburgh stationery Jellyka

I have been lusting over this font forever. Gah! Look how pretty! It has blobs in it like it was written with a real ink pen! It looks like somebody really fancy and old-timey and classy wrote it, AND I LOVE IT.

Font-o-Rama : wedding pittsburgh stationery Peake

I picked this one because it wasn’t as dramatic as the first two, but still interesting.

Font-o-Rama : wedding pittsburgh stationery Landsdo

This was the last font I picked—I felt like I needed a normal, less decorative font for big chunks of text, where the words needed to be more on the legible than the pretty side.

Now that we’re just about four months away from the wedding (which, OMG WHAT!!!??!, by the way), I’ve been messing around with all my little font friends, testing out some mock-ups of things I’m eventually going to have to make for real. Wanna see a few quick tests?

For a little note in our OOT bags….

Our names on the cover of the ceremony programs….

Font-o-Rama : wedding pittsburgh stationery Ceremon

The bar menu (oh, yeah, about that. Still not figured out. Can you tell?)….

Font-o-Rama : wedding pittsburgh stationery Bar

Haha, whoops, looks like Microsoft Word doesn’t know what Yuengling is. Your loss, Word!

What do you think? Also, can you reassure me that I’m not the only one who cares, like, a freakish amount about fonts?

Love the usage of different fonts throughout the occasion. Choosing fonts is one of those tasks you never even think about until you become a bride and begin to obsess over little details. @ sanebrideadivce we love details and fonts are definately one!

That’s pretty much what my beer decision was, too! We had 3 taps to fill and I said “I want Yuengling and… something else”. (we went with Labatt’s and Coors Light. :)

I love fonts too! I just downloaded some to use at our engagement party (for the signs near the bar & food stations)! All of the fonts you are using a drool-worthy :)

Just an FYI about dafont.com - I downloaded a couple fonts from there for a shower invite for a friend, and got a terrible virus/spyware on my computer - i had to get a brand new hard drive and everything!

Be careful!

You don’t want to know how many fonts are on my computer. You really don’t. :)

And I get giddy when new font releases come out! My current obsession — Jeeves and Calla. :)

I too have a love for the right font for the right event. I thought it just because of my five years as a print shop employee but maybe it has to do with liking the details. Soon I will have to look for a font to use as the wedding font or fonts. It will not be easy as my favorite fonts are already being used as the font for groups I am working with. Thank you for showing how the different fonts will work together. Enjoy your fonts.

mmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmm gotta love a great font. I am so picky about fonts with everything I do, and always have been. School project? Don’t you dare approach me with an ugly or (heaven forbid) overused font… curlz anyone?! :) looooves Ecuyer Dax PS.

i love fonts too!! just watch out for your serifs! the rule of thumb is to not use two fonts with serifs, or two fonts sans serif.
You should chose one with, and one without.

AND, if you are a font lover, you would love this quirky “which font are you” test

The Jellyka font is awesome, I used it on a few things…The only thing is, it’s hard to read if it’s smaller than like, 20 pt, just an FYI!

Love the fonts, and I love Yuengling. That’s on our bar list, as well as Sam Adams and Miller/Coors Light.
