Mrs. Ribbons's Picture
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor Engagement Date: May 2, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Indiana Memorial Union About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
About Mrs. Ribbons

I’ve reached the point in planning where there is no such luxury as shopping around. There are things on my list and I either buy them or strike them. The garter was something I put off and put off some more for months. We won’t be doing a toss, so it never seemed urgent or required, but recently I just felt it was something I wanted. Being four-ish weeks out from the wedding, I had to make it happen now!

A big shocker here: I got mine from Etsy. I bought from JLWeddings, who makes some very sweet, delicate garters for an affordable price, like mine for instance!

It feels good to pay people to make pretty things for me, let me tell you.

Do you have a buy it or leave it list?

I did the exact same thing. My mom wanted to buy it so I sent her the link for two garters at etsy and she bought one two weeks before the wedding. I loved it though!

OMG, it’s beautiful! I still have not decided if I’m doing the garter, and if I am, if we’re going to do the toss…. I should totally check out Etsy more often….

My garter was given to me as a gift, but S actually used mine as her “something borrowed” Neither of us wanted to do the toss so it wasn’t used in any other fashion other then tradition . And I agree, I think all brides come to that point where some things on there list get the X and others stay on strong !

That is SO lovely! I was actually thinking about making mine. I knit a garter for my friend, out of threadlike crochet cotton, and it turned out lovely. I was thinking I may make one for myself, and dye it to match my colors (rather than to be white cotton). We’ll see how much time I have his summer!

I did and garter was on it. I wasn’t going to wear one, but then won an awesome one from the fab Ms. Buttons and love it! But I won’t be tossing it! Too pretty to do that!
