Mrs. Seashell's Picture
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RI Age and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical Engineer Engagement Date: September 3, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: The Glen Manor House About Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
About Mrs. Seashell

After admitting that I’d booked our venue and photographer before we were engaged, it should be of no shock to you that I’d swung by a bridal shop (or two, or three) pre-ring as well. OK, it gets worse - I had a fake ring I’d sport to these occasions. These confessions keep getting better, don’t they?

You are about to witness photographs from my first documented bridal dress shopping experience as a legitimately engaged woman. It was a proud moment. This event occurred during my pre-blogging days, so excuse the lack of detailed information on the dresses (i.e. designers, style number, etc).

Below are dresses that I tried on during a shopping trip with my FMIL and Mr. Seashell’s Goddaughter. It was made clear that we were not going to buy that day as there were two important factors to be considered: 1) my mother wasn’t present 2) there was a dress in RI that I had my eye on already…

The Good, The Bad, and The Not-So-Bad... : wedding providence wedding dress Dress Pics dress pics

Dress One (The Not-So-Bad)

Lace Top, Soft Organza Skirt. I don’t have much to say about this one. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t all that good either.

Dress Two (The Bad)

Heavy random fabric, thick empire waist, felt very costume-like, though not all together completely hideous. Well, pretty hideous.

Dress Three (The Good)

My overall runner up. I know this one was by Marisa. It was all organza, and totally lovely. I described it as the perfect dress if I were doing a tented wedding under colorful lanterns in the summer.

Dress Four (The Good)

I love the elements of this dress, minus the stuffed sausage effect. This one has the “feel” of the one I liked in Rhode Island: lace applique, delicate beadwork, beautiful train. However, I much prefer a softer A-line cut as well as more flattering bust line.

How many dress shops did you visit? After you “had your eye on one” did you keep searching?

I think you’re my ‘taste in dresses’ twin. Every one of these is one that I would have picked for myself. I even love the third one with the thick empire waist!!! Although it looks super heavy. I can’t wait to read the rest of your dress adventure!

Ohhh, loving that lace! (and it’s hilarious that you used a fake ring to shop for dresses!)

Fake ring. You are my twin! Oh the shame!!! I just kept telling myself, at least I’ll be prepared for a short engagement…

Th final dress would be my pick…it looks like you would have fewer bra issues, as it comes up just slightly higher…and the lace details are gorgeous!

Oops! Just noticed “Dress One” is actually 2 different dresses. Oh well. Neither are “the one”. :)

Looks like you had such Fun! Lol, I wore a fake ring a few times, but not for dress shopping.
I only went to two dress shops, both on the same day. I went alone on a whim on a day I had off of work by surprise :o) I bought a dress that same day, lol. It’s perfect and I’m in love with it, so I guess I just got lucky.

I actually really like the thick empire waist dress… if the top was different I think it would have been a gorgeous shape on you - makes your waist look super tiny! Just that top does not fit that dress at all!

I visited one dress shop three time. I ended up getting a dress that I tried on the first time looking when I realized that I was comparing every single other dress to that one.

LOVE your confessions seashell, it’s what makes this place so great! I have to say I’m an addict of this site without so much as a glimmer of a boyfriend (but I’ve loved weddings all my life, sooo I’m helpless) and I’ll probably end up doing the same as you. shhhhhhh, don’t tell the others. :) But you like GORGG love the organza!

If it makes you feel better - I did the same thing (trying on dresses with a fake ring). I almost felt like they could tell it wasn’t real, but I had my lies down pat before I stepped in the salon so I didn’t care!

yay for dress shopping! that’s so cute that you had your major things booked before the engagement–it just means that you’re extra prepared and excited!

Love the last two! I may be biased though b/c the Marisa one is my dress! It was the first dress I tried on and I bought it on the spot :)
