100 Push Up Challenge: Still With Me? : wedding fitness san diego 14 08Tu-Push-ups[1]

Remember that 100 Push Up Challenge I started a couple weeks ago? Many of you indicated interest in the challenge, others of you reported being a Challenge drop out. I’m half way through my 3rd week. I see how there would be drop outs now. The first 2 weeks went pretty well. I was feeling pretty hardcore with my push ups. Then, Week 3 came and I got really scared.

In my initial test, I did 6 regular push ups. I decided to stick to the first column for those who completed 0-5 push ups in their initial test. That ended up being a good idea. Transitioning to Week 3 had me doing 8 in a set to 12 all of a sudden! Dude! It was hard. I’m worried how the rest of this program is going to go. Tell me you’re hanging in there too so I don’t stop, won’t you?

I learned that I could still get through the suggested push ups in each set if I took longer breaks between them. I would do a set, get up, go put away some clutter, then come back to do my next set. I can honestly say that I’m pretty happy with how my arms are looking and feeling after just 2.5 weeks.

And then Miss Buttons had to go and show us her beach babe bod with her super awesome abs. So even though I chose the 100 Push Up Challenge because it would easily fit into my schedule, I am adding the 200 Sit Up Challenge to my routine. I’ll do the sit ups on the days I’m resting from the push ups. It’s the same premise, but with sit ups. I’ve resurrected my yoga mat, and Button-like abs… here I come.

I tried to bring back this discussion thread here in case others wanted to discuss their progress.

How are you all doing? Have you found a way to fit the 100 Push Up Challenge into your schedule?

That picture is awesome, btw!

I am also a challenge slacker… I do push-ups a lot random out of boredom or habit but never got around to putting a system to it. Though doing abs on alternate days may end up making the push-up challenge harder… whenever I do a whole bunch of push-ups I find that I get sore in the abs/core area as well as the chest/arms.

Thank you for posting this!!! I’ve been hoping they’d start a sit up challenge - pushups are not for me.

I started the program last week and am in the middle of Week 2 of the 100 pushup challenge! I was able to do 12 in the beginning but chickened out and dropped back to column 2 (column 3 is scary). After this weekend, I’ll be in Week 3. I feel stronger and leaner, but I’m not sure if I see it yet. Maybe after week 3?

I’m just starting Week 3 and it’s going well! I can see a difference, but I still am looking for more definition in my stick-like arms. Congrats on your progress Miss HW!

We should start a thread where we can track our progress in these workouts! An extra support system is always helpful =)

Whooo hooo! Go Hot Wings! You already look fabulous but you go and get those toned arms and abs. I really need to try this as well.

@Entangled: @Michelle: You both are so right. The push ups definitely work your abs too. In my head it made since b/c my abs are definitely stronger than my arms. We’ll see if I can actually do it. I’m usually overly ambitious. I’m also no stranger to failure. ha!
@kirabee: @Elisa: @miss bloom: I do feel like I see more muscle. I have to flex to see it though. I’m a real skinny minny though, not much muscle to speak of. So it’s probably easier to see the results. Who knows though, I could totally be making it up. I’ll take a picture to compare in my next update :)

Just finished week 2 of all the challenges (100 push-ups, 200 sit-ups, 200 squats). I’m actually really enjoying this, it does take a little while, but I really feel like I’m doing something and have a goal. My progress test shows that I’m definitely doing better and since its not that much each week, and its only six weeks worth.
@Michelle yeah when you do both push-ups and sit-ups, you really notice your abs working

I always hated sit-ups because I felt like they made my stomach bigger, not flatter. So when I found out that there is a better ab exercise (some study found that the Bicycle Crunch is the best one you can do), I was pretty happy:

I just started yesterday! My initial test was 17 pushups, so I did 45 total yesterday for my first day. Well, 62 if you count my initial test. The iPhone app is AWESOME for this!

Anyways, like you, I also wanted to add something. And as a rock climber, I’m going to be doing a 100 pull up challenge. (Alternating days with the pushups) I’m tempted to join you on the 200 crunch challenge!!!

@Lisa: I LOVE the bicycle crunch. That’s the type I usually do. They’re great for creating the long lean muscles that dancers have. Maybe we can create an alternative “challenge” for the bicycle crunch. I’m totally into the challenge thing.

@Miss Biner: You’re totally hard core! I can’t do a pull up to save my life. Maybe I’ll try that after my arms get stronger. Keep us posted on the pull up challenge. I’m really curious about it.

I’m still doing it. I did day 1 of week 3 yesterday and it was no walk in the park. I’ve also been alternating it with my “regular” workout that focuses on abs and legs. Basically, my entire body has been sore for the past 3 weeks but I suppose it’s in a good way.
