About Mrs. Pug

Army of Photographers

May 23rd, 2010 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Pug

So you’ve hired a photographer. Very important. But what about all those other pictures that guests have taken? What if they captured moments that the photographer did not? One, or even two professional photographers cannot be everywhere. To try and collect all the photos from our hoarding guests, I used a shared online photo site like many other savvy brides.

I created a Flickr account just for the wedding, and paid the $25 or so to upgrade the account so you can have unlimited space (this was after one of our guests uploaded high resolution files that took up a good portion of our memory). I then sent out the following email to guests a few weeks after the wedding:

We are back from the honeymoon, all rested and wishing for about 5 more months of vacation. We can dream, can’t we? Thank you all for your love and friendship during the wedding weekend and beyond, we had an incredibly wonderful time celebrating with all of you.

While hopefully we deluged you with enough drink and food to keep you well occupied during the wedding, if there are any pictures you took that you would be willing to share, we have created a Flickr account for you to upload your photos. To upload your photos:

1. Go to Flickr.com

2. Sign in with the username: [ ]

3. Password is: [ ]

4. Click on the blue link on the right that says “Upload Photos & Videos”.

5. Follow directions to upload (your photos will already need to be on your computer’s hard drive)

6. Ta-da!!

We know this takes a bit of effort and we truly appreciate any photos you would like to share. Please keep in mind that the Flickr account is one that can be accessed by all wedding guests, so try not to be embarrassing, okay? Actually, go ahead, what do we care.

Thank you again!

I’m really glad we did this because while not everyone is going to take the time to upload their photos, I definitely love having at least some guest photos. Here’s a sampling:

A girl’s gotta eat. Notice I’m not talking to anyone. I’m focused on the task at hand.

Somebody fully appreciating the talent and hard work of my sister

I’m so glad we did this, and might end up printing little notes with the Flickr directions to include in our thank you cards (NO I HAVEN’T DONE THESE YET STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT) to gently remind anyone who needs to get off their lazy ass and upload their photos.

Are you planning on trying to corral guests’ photos? What approach are you using?

All personal and guest photos

We just discussed this the other day (still have 6 month’s till the wedding) and have decided to possibly print it in our book like wedding program, but I like your idea of a flikr account, I had just thought of having the pics emailed to me. This way everyone could enjoy each other’s pic’s too!

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing and for including instructions.
I bet you’ll get more and more photos as people start emptying their memory cards to prepare for all the summer trips and activities.

We put business cards with our photo sharing website on them in our thank you’s which we sent out immediately after our honeymoon (~3 weeks after the wedding), and NO ONE uploaded any photos! We were SO disappointed. Those are what tide you through until the professional photos, which in our case took a while. There were about 100 (okay maybe not 100, but A LOT) people with cameras –what are they holding out for?? We always send/print photos we take to the couple even when not asked to do so. We did get three sets of photos and a few randoms after I scoured FB to see who was posting our wedding photos. My husband’s friend is semi-professional and so he gifted us a photo album with his shots and sent along a CD after we requested. Those are photos we most used.

We’re also doing this, but using snapfish. We’re printing the instructions on the back label of our wine bottle favors. I think it’s such a great idea, because then everyone can see each other’s photos. We may also include a note with the thank yous, too - that’s a great idea!

I think we’ll use flickr too. I’m pretty confident it’s only the young crowd that will upload though. Is that what you found?

So smart! I have not done this, but it’s a great idea. The pictures you’ve shown so far are great! I also love the captions. :)

Fun photos! I’m sending out little reminders in our thank you cards, too. It feels wrong, but I’ve already sealed them—no turning back now!

I’ve been to a wedding where along with wedding favours, each guest was provided with a blank CD and stylish envelope sleeve with pre-paid postage. There was a note inside expressing that the bride and groom would love for you to share memories of their special day with them. It seemed to work, as I’ve seen the bride’s photobook. I’m sure there will be some people who don’t do this, but the trick with guests is to make EVERYTHING as easy as possible for them.

We did the same thing and tried to corral photos from our guests. We made the little cards for our guests and had them at each place setting. We also sent out an e-mail similar to yours after the wedding, and included the little cards again in our thank you cards. Sadly only 2 of our 200 guests actually uploaded photos for us. :(

Ha - I’m fairly certain I will have a food shot similar to yours…it’s serious business.

We are doing the same thing! We are putting little business card sized sheets of paper with the link to our shuttefly site at every place setting. I’m hoping for lots and lots of great pictures! :-)

I am definitely planning on a guest photo upload site. I want all of their candid shots. :)
