Man Flowers

May 23rd, 2010 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

I have a certain fear.

Man Flowers : wedding bloomington flowers Rosebou rosebou

All of the flowers at the ceremony and reception are going to be roses and peonies. So while for the most part that means a ton of fluffy goodness, it can also be concerning. For evidence, see above.

My beef with rose bouts is this: they remind me of high school dances, where every single date of mine had the same tight rosebud bout. I also don’t love how far it sits away from the lapel. I’d like to avoid this.

Those aren’t roses, they’re dahlias, but they sure are awesome. Note how the flowers lay flat across the lapel and while they’re large, they’re a quirky large, not “I’m a giant bud” large.

Another convincing argument:

So I think at this point, a rose is not the ideal flower bout for us. But peonies are a little delicate and I assume they would not hold up as a bout either. Do you have any last minute suggestions for a flower available in June that’d be flat and big and lovely?

To me, the big ones look like they’re about to shoot you in the eye with some water. =P

We are doing all gerbera daisies, with mini gerberas for the guys bouts.

Peonies will wilt. You do have some options though. Have you thought about a multi-small bloom bout? My husband wore a sweetheart rose and two daisies yesterday. Also, back in the day if you can find someone who can make one, there was this flower product called a glamelia (circa 1950) You see them a lot in the 50s as a bridesmaid bouquet. It is actually a gladiola wired together and taped into a circular bloom. They could be made in any glad color and I assume any bout size. It would be ideal, because it ends in wire naturally–like all bouts do. They would mirror the fluffyness of a peony too. You might have to see an older florist though to find someone who could make one.

Sorry-can’t help…we did high school dance roses (with ribbon, guinea feathers and eucalyptus).

Ok, I miss explained the glamellia–It is gladiola petals wired together to make a camellia looking bloom. They are very pretty though, and an artisan almost lost florist skill.

We are doing pocket squares instead of bouts! So excited about that decision.

I thought of daisies, but they aren’t as fluffy as these other flowers. Sorry, I’m not a lot of help.

What about cottage roses? They are much wider and flatter and kind of look like a cross between a rose and peony. They are pricey but you would only need one for each bout so it probably wouldn’t be bad.

We didn’t want a standard look for our groomsmen either. Even though we are on the east coast, we went with http://rosenowfloral.com/frittsrosenow/gallery_vintage/slideshow/gallery.html for our bouts. Just so incredibly cute, and all the guys really liked the idea.

We used ranunculus, much like Ms. Buttons is planning: http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/04/07/figuring-out-the-flowers/

If I had my pro photos, I’d post a couple shots, but they’re not ready yet.

I say if they are in bloom, ranunuculus! I loved the way they looked- like a small, multi petal, full in bloom rose :)

Also consider orchids. IMHO, they are the BEST laying flowers for bouts and look amazing!

Ranunculus looks amazing on a man’s lapel. I’m so sad they won’t be in bloom at the end of July, but I’d inquire if you’re June.

Orchids are pretty as are the dahlias you showed… and daisys… and those fun fabric bouts that are becoming a bit more popular… good luck!!!!

why not dahlias? peonies tend to really blow open in warmth and as a bout, i’m thinking it might not hold up well on your man’s jacket. that kind of roses that look like peonies (garden roses?) might work. a gerbera daisy might be an awesome large flower too.
