I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

Re-Programming

May 24th, 2010 @ 1:16 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

The fun/tedious part of planning is the evolution of ideas. At one point I thought I had a clear idea for a ceremony program and then I fell victim to second-guessing. The cover was changed, more information was added, and did I mention I only got these printed today? Oh yes that happened.

I had these printed on text weight paper, i.e. crap. I had big ideas about tying them with a black grosgrain ribbon, yadda yadda, but that felt silly when it was basically photo copier paper. Instead, I busted out the twine.

The lesson here is if you’re smarter than me, you print the cover page with a light cardstock and then the interior pages with text weight paper. It gives the programs a lot more heft. Learn from my mistakes.

Did you reinvent the program wheel or stick to the basics?

We just finished our yesterday (wedding is this Sunday). At the end of the day, while looking nice counts, it was about the function - providing much needed info to the guests. But it was also doing it so I saved money.

I just used regular print paper for the interior - ran all the copies at work. And for the cover, went heavy cardstock so they will hold up in the basket and give it some life. We tied them up with ribbon and frankly, I don’t think they are half bad. Compared to a lot of other projects, I wouldn’t beat yourself up over the programs…

They are programs! No one will notice/care. They look great (the cover reminds me of an ’80s romance novel font. Isn’t this the famed Scissors’ font?) We printed ours on 1 sheet (2-sided) of heavy weight cream paper –no ribbon or anything. We included our monogram and a cute pic of my late parents to spice it up.

I’m definitely taking your advice to heart! Cardstock covers and regular text paper inside - check!

I printed out or programs on white card stock = not fancy, but it totally worked :) I embellished it with heart shaped corner punches. I like the twine :) Sometimes sticking to the basics is the best solution.
