DIY Monogram Design

May 25th, 2010 @ 2:36 pm by Mrs. Sunrise

After seeing many photos of fancy monograms displayed at countless weddings, I knew that I wanted to have one, too. Having a monogram meant that we could tie everything in our wedding together for a cohesive look. And basically, I could brand our entire wedding with our own personal logo. How cool. :)

I definitely want to personalize our aisle runner with a monogram like the ones below.

And I would also love to use our monogram on the belly band of our invitations like the lovely Mrs. Champagne and so many other talented DIY brides did.

After much swooning, I decided that I would attempt to make our very own wedding monogram. Although I am not very savvy with Photoshop, I learned basic PS skills from playing with all the different features. I am so lucky to be marrying a computer nerd… Mr. S recently got me a copy of Photoshop CS4 Extended. And let me tell ya, it is fweekin AWESOME!

I wanted a pretty & swirly pattern that I could incorporate into our design, and after a quick search, I successfully found this image. It was perfection.

Twenty minutes in Photoshop later… and tada! This is what I came up with. I even included a pair of our little lovebirds. Patrick really loved it! :)

Then I decided to change it up a little bit and make our names bolder.

Mr. S wasn’t digging the bold letters so I changed it back, but made the date different. He didn’t like this one either.

He still liked the first one the best, so I tried to sway him with our names in fancy script. It didn’t work.

In the end, the first and original design was the winner.

Can you just imagine this design on our aisle runner and invitations? I can’t wait to start using it everywhere. What do you guys think? Which is your favorite?

Very pretty! You did a great job. I want Photoshop so bad, but it is way to expensive.

OMG! It’s GORGEOUS! I need to invest in Photoshop, OBVIOUSLY! Look at all the wonderful stuff you’re able to do! I definitely like the one you picked, but the fancy script was cute too! I think I’m drawn to all your stuff because of your awesome colors. Those are mine too!! AWESOME monogram!!

I love monograms! I wish we could have a zillion although I had to settle on just 2. We mixed them up and put them EVERYWHERE, invites, belly bands, reply cards, matchbooks, stickers, EVERYWHERE.

Love yours!!

i love love the final design. but i have to say…since you asked…and i don’t intend to make you feel bad…i think that the boldness of the green swirly part is a little overwhelming for your names and the birds. is there a way to take out the outline or make it less bold?

I love the monogram. I tried doing our monogram and im pretty photoshop savy but it just wasnt feeling it. So we decided keeping fonts consis tand and color of the font will make it flow through inst3ead! but having a monogram wouldve been so much easier!
