Mrs. Jellyfish's Picture
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
About Mrs. Jellyfish

Many moons ago it seems, I posted about an amazing deal we had found on a wedding band for Mr. Jelly. It was a white gold and platinum band from Macy’s, and it was perfect – or so we thought.

A Band for the Mister: Part 2 : wedding pleasanton rings 19 1

It was actually a half-size too big, and every jeweler we went to said that resizing it would be risky because of the white gold-platinum combination. We briefly toyed with the idea of adding sizing beads to the ring, but decided against it. Ultimately, we didn’t want to take the risk of re-sizing so we returned the ring, and it was back to the drawing board.

For weeks, we kept looking for a similar ring but we couldn’t find anything that we liked as much as the original. Then Mama Jelly suggested that we have the ring custom made, something I hadn’t really considered before. I’m not sure why, but I had the crazy idea that anything that is custom made = more expensive. With experience, I’ve now learned that this is simply not true. After a little research, we found a great jeweler that we trust and who quoted us a very reasonable price for a custom white-gold recreation of the Macy’s ring. Without further ado, here is the new ring:

The ring was made by the amazing Chabo’s Jewelry in San Francisco. I cannot recommend them enough!

Like I said, we were both a little apprehensive about getting something custom made, and I think we both kind of expected to find something wrong with it. We were pleasantly surprised when the ring was exactly what we had wanted all along! It looks perfect, and it’s even better than the old one because it’s all white gold (therefore lighter, which Mr. Jelly likes) and “comfort fit”, which the old ring was not. Here are the two rings side-by-side:

Now that we have found a jeweler that we trust, I will likely be getting my wedding band custom made as well! Now if I could just settle on a design…

Have you gotten anything custom made for your wedding?

Wonderful ring! It looks great.
We’re having my ring custom made because I had something very specific in mind. His is ceramic and he’s had it for over a year :-)

Great ring! We did my e-ring and my wedding ring custom through a local jeweler, I love supporting a locally owned business and luckily we found the same thing that it wasn’t super expensive going that route. Yay for custom!

That looks exactly like the ring my husband picked! (We got married one month ago yesterday.) The only difference is his is tungsten-carbide rather than white gold. Nice choice! =)

We are having my wedding band custom made. Ours is proving to be more expensive than buying an already available ring but that is because of the intricate detail. We are attempting to match the design of my gorgeous engagement ring which has intricate designs on the sides of the ring.
I was surprised how economical most designs were when custom making a ring though.

My FI and I designed my engagement ring together, and I LOVE it! We had some family stones that we wanted to have set and found that big box stores weren’t really into fitting stones into their settings that already had stones. That’s why we stumbled into talking to a local custom jeweler. And it was AWESOME! Got exactly what I’m going to love wearing for years and years :)
And after similar hesitance, I totally agree that custom does not automatically = expensive!

My engagement ring is custom made and I’m so happy with it! It is a round center diamond with a halo of pink sapphires. It took longer than expected to be finished, so that was a headache. But overall, I wouldn’t change the decision we made to get it custom. My wedding band will most likely be custom as well, to fit nicely with my engagement ring :)

My FI had my engagement ring custom made at a jeweler where I bot diamond earring from before. We established a relationship over the years and when it was time to make a ring FI took it over there. He had the stones from his gma who passed away and knew what how he wanted designed (or me :) ) and honestly….it was the most perfect thing in the world. I always pointed out rings i liked, and aspects I like about other rings, but until i saw mine i knew it was the one. hahaha…and i know no one else will have a ring like mine ;)

haha, after typing that I feel more confident about my ring and how I feel about it than i do about my dress ….ha wish I had the same feeling.

We had both of our wedding bands custom made. It was a very cool experience. I imagine what I had done on my band would probably cost at least half again as much in a store.
