About Mrs. Scissors

A Tux to Make Bond Proud

May 25th, 2010 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Scissors

A Tux to Make Bond Proud : wedding georgia menswear Tuxwb1 tuxwb1

As I’ve discussed before, I love a classic black tux with all of the trimmings––black bow-tie, black satin cummerbund, crisp pleated white shirt, black cuff-links, black patent shoes, etc. At first, Mr. Scissors wasn’t totally sure about the whole bow-tie-tux thing, but was willing to try it for me. Also, I mean, c’mon, it’s Bond’s ensemble of choice, and what man doesn’t want to look like James Bond?

With an open mind and a non-pushy spirit, I went with Mr. Scissors to go look at tuxes. I wanted him to be comfortable and happy with his wedding day duds, so I wasn’t out to push my agenda. He tried on different combinations, but lo and behold, the planets aligned, and Mr. Scissors happily chose a classic Bond combo. It looks like a whole bunch o’ sexy on Mr. Scissors, and I’m so glad that he’s happy. No whiny-beggy-pleady bride in sight. (We also got a big fat discount as well, which didn’t hurt.)

He and his groomsmen will be wearing…
  • A black single-breasted one-button satin-shawl-collared tuxedo jacket (Fun fact: same jacket style first shown on Mr. Bond)
  • Black tux pants with the delightful satin stripe down each side
  • Black suspenders (These are surprisingly fun for me to snap)
  • Black satin cummerbund
  • White pleated tux shirt with a lay-down collar
  • Black bow-tie
  • Black and silver cuff-links and buttons
  • Black patent tux shoes

All of that that goodness, including alterations and a 5-day rental, cost each fella $65. We give that lots of thumbs up.

One of the best parts of the experience for me was overhearing the happy phone call Mr. Scissors made to his best man right after he made the big decision…

“Best Man! We get to look like James Bond!”

Yes, yes they do.

What is your groom wearing? Did you let him choose the entire outfit, steer him in a certain direction, or choose it all for him?

Holy moly how did you score that discount? We have 8 groomsmen and we aren’t able to get anything below $130!

Where did you rent your tuxes? That’s an amazing price.

My man wanted to wear a suit, so we went to the Macy’s menswear sale this past weekend and he found one he really loves. It’s a grey/tanish color, and he looks dashing in it if I do say so myself. Plus, the suit was originally $550, and we got the suit with alterations, a shirt, tie, belt, shoes, and socks for about $350. A total steal for a suit he will be able to wear for years to come!

You have good tastes in Bonds. Connery is my fave. Also good taste in tuxes!

I love this look, but I was the begging bride trying to convince my man that this was THE LOOK to have. It’s all part of my VISION! Where did they rent tuxes from w/ that amazing price; please share.

that is a good price..i always thought bond was about the only good way to pull off a tux. mr. sew has more inner-prom-teen than inner-bond, so unfortunately the tux was a no-go for us. Mr. Scissors seems like he could pull out the bond spirit though! work it, work it! :D

Yay! Love the look (and Mr Bond!) We’re doing the vest/suit pant/straight tie look… with chucks of course. Our ushers are rocking the suspenders which I can guarantee will be appropriately snapped (by the ushers themselves I am sure).

woohoo, he’ll look sharp! groomie isn’t sure if he’s going to do a dark suit or tux! it’s funny that he’s so torn, usually he loves any excuse for a tux! :)

i told my guy i thought the men could wear suits since our wedding vibe is on the more semi-formal/casual side but he is convinced he needs to wear a tux so the pictures are nice. not sure how that logic turns out [he's so obsessed with how things look in pictures - not sure if it's because i said that photography was my priority] but if he wants to wear a tux, then i’ll let him wear a tux.

The tuxes are actually from Black Tie by Lori, the downstairs part of where we bought my dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses. I think that’s why they cut us a sweet deal. We already forked over way too much money to those peeps.

I love the tux look and my fiancee is being super stubborn about what he wants. I gave up - I wouldn’t want him telling me what to wear on the big day . . . I am praying he will not opt for a top hat though.

Mr. A is wearing a suit, and our guys are wearing the vest and pants that match Mr. A’s suit.
