It Has a Nice Ring to It

We have our wedding bands!

I have a teeny tiny confession - we actually have had our bands for over a year - it was one of the first things that we could cross off the list relatively early on, so we went back to where Mr. Hermit Crab had gotten my engagement ring, and we picked out rings. We were in and out in 20 minutes, and we got a deal that included engraving in the cost. Thus began the saga!

It took us about a year to decide what we wanted engraved, and we finally forced ourselves to make the decision and took them back to the store.

Three weeks later, we happily went to retrieve our rings… and mine had an engraving mistake! The problem was that the mistake was part of the Hebrew lettering, and we had very little faith that they would be able to get it right the second time. We went home with Mr. Hermit Crab’s band, and crossed our fingers. Finally, we got the call and went to pick mine up. It was… perfect! Now we just have to keep them safe until the wedding!

In a Jewish wedding ceremony, you are supposed to wear a solid ring, without any holes in it. Many people use one like this for the ceremony, and then have a fancier band that they wear all the time. It was very important to Mr. Hermit Crab and I that the ring we use during the ceremony be what I would wear all the time, and luckily, I love the simplicity of it.

They don’t fit snuggly together, but I actually prefer it that way. I can wear them each separately or together, I like how it looks either way. (A wedding band that would have fit snuggly with my e-ring would have look horrible on its own, and I really wanted one I could wear alone).

I am so excited about our wedding bands. I love my engagement ring and its symbolism for us as a couple, but to me, the simplicity of the band and what it symbolizes is so powerful. I am very much looking forward to wearing it!

Just in case you’re interested, here is what we had engraved: “E&N 6-6-2010 (and in Hebrew) Ani l’dodi v’dodi li” which means, “I am my beloved and my beloved is mine.”

How did you decide what wedding band to buy? Was it an easy or a complicated process? Did you decide to have your rings engraved?

Beautiful! I actually like that it doesn’t fit so snuggly–my ring is kind of differently shaped so I don’t feel bad that it won’t be a perfect fit. They look beautiful!! :)

I like that your wedding band and engagement rings dont fit snuggly! It makes it clear that the 2nd ring is a wedding band and not just part of your engagement ring!

I agree with texaslawgirl - pix please! We’re still struggling to find a wedding band for the FI, never the less decide what to engrave. Sigh…

We’re Jewish too and I have a solid rose gold band similar to yours that doens’t fit with my e-ring. I also like the way they don’t sit flush. More ‘wearable’ options, lol

I’m having ani l’dodi engraved in mine too…although we are having a non-denominational ceremony the FI wanted to engrave it on my e-ring but couldn’t remember the phrase, so I’m having it done on the side of my wedding band. I can’t wait to pick it up to post pics on the ‘Bee.

I love the plain band with your e-ring. The simplicity compliments it well.

I am engraving his ring even though he does not know. I am engraving it with “I am the mess you chose” It’s a line from the song by Staind “Everything Changes” and when we get frustrated with each other, we always say “rememeber, I am the mess you chose” and that somehow soothes the moment and does not let us really fight. But this is part of my wedding surprise to him.

As far as rings, he picked my engagement ring and band himself. I have not even seen my band and I do not want to until our wedding day. I like the idea of the surprise factor. His band is going to be the Damiani Brad Pitt ring. He is obsessed with it and he is giving me everything else I want, so it is the one thing I can and will do in return for him! :)

I tried to take pictures of the engraving actually, and they did not come out so well. Hopefully our photographer will take some clear ones on the wedding day that I can share with you guys!

We got ours from Hannoush, too! (I totally recognized the boxes right away.) Mine finally came in last week - we got my FH’s a month or so ago. Six weeks from tomorrow I get to wear it!

Love that your ring is simple. We still need to buy ours, but I haven’t even really thought about having them engraved.
