About Mrs. Lobster

Pop quiz, hive! I’m testing you on my wedding colors. You will be graded.

Lobster Wedding Colors:

  1. What are the Lobsters’ flower colors?
  2. What color are the Lobstermaids wearing?
  3. What color were the Lobster Save-the-Dates?
  4. What colors are the Lobsters using for their invitations?
  5. Essay question: In your opinion, do you the Lobsters have a color theme? Why or why not?

Got it all? The answers are next:

Correct Answers:

  1. White, pink but not too pink, purple
  2. Lemonade Yellow
  3. Black, white, navy, greenish
  4. Ha! This was a trick question. It has not yet been revealed.
  5. I will accept various answers including: If “I have no theme” is a theme. or Miss Lobster has no idea where she’s going with this mish mash of a wedding.

How Did This Happen?

I am prone to indecision (not indigestion, but it sounds eerily similar). I put decisions off until the last minute in case I have a better idea. First, the Save-the-Dates. I’d like to say they are black and white because that’s how I envisioned them. The truth is because I didn’t want to commit to any colors just yet.

Secondly, the bridesmaid dresses. I was being so “open and flexible” that it caused me great pain to find the right dress in a color I liked. Well, now you know it’s yellow. But does that go with the other decisions I’ve already made?

What Goes With Yellow?

In deciding to go with yellow bridesmaid dresses. I had to do some research before I could commit. I do not want an all-yellow wedding even as cute as these inspiration boards are:

The Perfect Palette

Soooo instead of 2 colors can I have a theme palette? How about “Summer”? Lemonade and ivory with a hint of gray, and lime?

These are the colors I’ve so far chosen previously:

Flowers: shades of pinks purples mixed with whites. Of course the flowers can be changed but I really like these colors for our centerpieces

I got my inspiration from Perfect Palette’s “Lemon+Lime+Gray = Sweet Summer Romance” inspiration board:

This might be as close as I can get

What do you think? Did you follow a color theme to tie your wedding details together?

My wedding has no color theme. More of a “feel” - country chic. :) I have a little bit of every color thrown into the mix!

your pop quiz made me nervous. middle school still traumatizes me, i guess. i think yellow goes very well with purple, grey and green. our colors were random–lavender and ivory for centerpieces, hot pinks and oranges for cocktail hour arrangements…we were all over the place.

I love those colors together! I’m not sure who made the “rule” that you had to have a color scheme, but yours thus far is amazing.

My colors are clover green and ivory with silver accents, but I wanted bold colors too, but the FI said no. Poop! Your color scheme works great together though. Feminine and bold!

I think you should do whatever you want, whenever you want! Everything doesn’t have to be matchy matchy, and I’m sure it all will look beeeeautiful :)

I think your theme should be “eclectic”. I too cannot decide so I decided to go with everything :)

I agree that a color theme isn’t necessary but make sure that you like the look of all your colors together. It seems like you have a color palette for your flowers and a separate one for everything else. Make sure you like the way the two palettes look together because everything will be in the same space together. There is no rule that your paper goods need to match the colors you use at the wedding though because they won’t be see all together. If I were you I would take the lime out of the palette because I would be concerned that the yellow, lime & purple might not all look good together…or make an inspiration board with all of the colors and see if you like it? Your inspiration boards are great but they don’t include the purple floral idea.

Nice choices! I started with a main color I loved (burgundy), then tried to accent it with something that would match my green venue…green! Sage, specifically. It was a pretty easy choice, and helped my wedding not look like a sporting event. I hope.

These are really pretty color combos! We went with pink, orange, and yellow, but I think the most apparent colors ended up being pink and silver.

i think it’s possible to tie these colors all together, but yellow and purple are a tricky combo. maybe you have to decide if you’re more tied to the purple or the yellow. you could also pick a very deep purple for the flowers so that it acts closer to a neutral, but i’ve always been told that ordering purple flowers is dicey because they often come in more blue or paler than people picture.

you could also shift the yellow to gold if it’s still possible to change the bridesmaids’ dresses.

all that said though, it looks like yellow speaks strongly to you and i would suggest going a more yellow, white and pale pink route for centerpieces and other flowers and use purple somewhere entirely different. you could use it at your rehearsal dinner with the greens and white and gray.

i like that color combo. i’m also a fan of the free range wedding. while i do have a color combo i’m keeping in mind, i’m not fanatical about making everything match perfectly.

I say it goes together if you put it together. Looks great to me.

I like a variety of colors. No need to keep it confined to just a few.

I think purple and yellow look really nice together. The purple will definitely pop against the yellow dresses. Maybe leave out the pink?

I think a theme is good to tie the colors in together. And as long as they flow well together then there’s no problem. =)

Ours is a sunflower theme (yellow, green and chocolate brown) with Fuchsia to accent (the hot pink fuchsia was by accident as I bought a bunch of ribbon samples for the invites I’m making and it looked the best with the colors of the stardream paper I bought).

I love Perfect Pallete. It was the blog that helped me to pick out my wedding colors!
