Mrs. Ribbons's Picture
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor Engagement Date: May 2, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Indiana Memorial Union About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
About Mrs. Ribbons

I’ve started an impromptu list—not of DIY projects or wedding day time lines, but things I want to do after the wedding. Part of it is to cope with post-wedding planning blues, but mostly I want a life again.

So I present to you the highlights of my “After the Wedding Resolutions”:

  1. Start getting weekly polish changes and monthly pedicures. This is totally selfish and wonderful.
  2. See plays, musicals, and ballets more. We went to only one this past year. Fail.
  3. Take dance classes.
  4. Every other weekend, do a museum or otherwise historic thing in or around DC. I’ve lived here for 2 years and still haven’t done everything. That must change.
  5. Buy records.
  6. Volunteer.
  7. Get a Sunday newspaper subscription.
  8. Reinstate date night. Date night has disappeared for us. It’s morphed into Ribs watching Dr. Who while I work on the computer/cut stuff out/glue crap/etc. and half watch the vampiric fish people. I want to go to movies again, eat popcorn and Sour Patch Kids, hold hands, nuzzle on the way out, argue about the movie, get ice cream, and then Metro home in that blissed out hazy state of being too full of sodium and sugar.
  9. Re-watch BSG from beginning to end again. I am a nerd.
  10. Read again. I’ve been reading exclusively issues of Poetry, mostly because they’re a handy size for the bathroom…

What’s on your “after the wedding” list?

Hooray for #9! I am currently re-watching BSG with my fiance, who has never seen it. I love to watch him watching the show.

You probably won’t get post-wedding blues from not being busy enough, but your list still sounds wonderful and normal! :)

I like your list!! I have a Day Zero list. I found the site (www.dayzeroproject.com) on a blog somewhere. Basically you make a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. The link to my list is below if you’re interesting in expanding yours! Keep us posted!!!

I had been putting some thought into this as well. Mine was take better care of my appearance and wear sexier bedtime clothes (no more of his sweatpants and Hanes t’s). I like the idea of date night and culture. Might steal it!

I think I’ll get back to the gym (embarrassing that I sacrificed the gym for wedding stuff), reinvest in my research, clean the office, go on dates (that’s an excellent one)….right now, I just can’t imagine!

I think you list items sound great. We need to re-instate date night around here.

Good idea! I’m tempted to try to estimate how many hours of my life wedding planning has eaten up — but that would be way scary!!! When I’m doing a few hours here and there, I sometimes forget all the things that I USED to do “for a few hours here and there” and have NOT been doing because of wedding planning! I want those back too!!

Great list and great idea! I was just thinking about taking dance classes again, and who can argue against a good vinyl collection?

The very first thing we are going to do after our wedding (or actually, after Sunday brunch when everyone else goes home) is to get a couple’s massage. We are *so* excited about that, and it’s great to have something to look forward to immediately post-wedding. After that, we’ll take it from there :-)

I love this list. Great idea, and good for you for looking ahead. My list includes:

Trips to New Orleans and Southeast Asia

Increase my 401k contribution (BORING and necessary)

Pay off any pesky credit card debt in less than a year after the wedding.

TANGO lessons!

Learn to skateboard on Mr. Taco’s old, now restored deck.

Great post. I love this idea, but with four months still to my wedding, I’m not in that “healthy” place yet where I can yet think about this. But you’ve definately made me think about it!

i’m with ya on #4, but worse. i’ve lived in the DC area for almost 5 years now and sadly haven’t done a single touristy thing ‘cept for 1 cherry blossom festival (3 years ago) and 1 super quick (i’m talking drive-by quick) monuments tour. and the only reason i even went on the monuments tour thing was cause my friend was in town for one last day for work.
