Mrs. Turtle's Picture
Mrs. Turtle, Central California Age and Occupation: 21, Art Student/Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English Student Engagement Date: August 16, 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CA About Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
About Mrs. Turtle

The envelopes have been addressed and sealed and the stamps have been placed! Our invitations, the project I have labored over for well, about as long as we’ve been engaged, are out of our hands and into the hands of our guests! This also means that I am done teasing you and ready to reveal… which I plan to do in just two posts!

Hopefully you won’t laugh at my humble attempt at calligraphy! I addressed each of the envelopes myself with chocolate brown ink. I gave up on being a perfectionist about calligraphy, but they are my best handwriting with a calligraphy pen! Even though I didn’t have much time to learn, I really enjoyed doing this. I’d love to take a class sometime and become better skilled in the art of calligraphy!

I also had a lot of fun playing around with postage stamps. I am kind of a closet philatelist. When I was a kid, I was in a stamp collecting club with my friend. Our moms used to drop us off at a local country club for meetings during the summer, where we would break out all of our albums and equipment. We were intense, right down to the magnifying glasses! Anyway, when I started running across the idea of using vintage stamps, on the pages of my favorite magazine, Martha Stewart Weddings, I was all over it!

Our invitations ended up costing more than we expected to mail, ($1.04 a piece, what the heck, USPS???), so I ran out of vintage stamps and ended up using the wedding cake and wedding ring stamps on a lot of the invitations. Oh well. But I did go vintage stamp crazy on some:

Love it! And so did my bridesmaid, Julianne!

After all my hard work, it was kind of bittersweet to send my box of pink envelopes out into the world, all on their own! But I’m definitely a proud parent… and I’ve enjoyed collecting the little mini pink envelopes that have already started making their way back to my mailbox!

Next up, I’ll show you what’s inside the pink envelopes!

So, did you put as much thought into the outside of your invitations as I did? Did any of you attempt to address your envelopes yourself?

So pretty! Cannot wait to see more. I just today sent out shower and bachelorette invites for a wedding I am the MOH in…and I put a good deal of time into the outside of the envelopes (although some got lame Forever bell stamps in the end!). It’s hard for me not to make the outside look pretty when I have put so much effort into making what’s inside pretty!

I absolutely love your vintage stamps. Yuor invites look like such a fun piece of mail to receive! :) I think your guests will love them! And your calligraphy skills are awesome, much better than my pitiful attempt for my sisters shower invites. I will not be attempting this for my own invites.

Your calligraphy is awesome! It could totally be a font. I might hand address our envelopes… it might be easier than creating cute labels and printing them, especially since our wedding is fairly small.

@sunnydebs: I promise not to keep you waiting! I should have that post up tomorrow!
@Miss Hot Dog: @Bananas: I got the vintage stamps on eBay. As long as they’re not cancelled/stamped, any stamps from any time work!
@SouthernTulip: The pink envelopes are from Paper-Source. The color is called “Blossom.”
So glad you guys like the outside of our invitations! I’m excited to show you the inside soon! :)

beautiful! I fuddled around with some calligraphy for about 2 invitations before I got sick of it and settled for my simple cursive. And I’m very jealous of your vintage stamps :)
