I Want Candy: Part 2

May 29th, 2010 @ 12:50 pm by Mrs. Sunrise

After mulling over the candy situation for a good while, I returned to my shopping cart, where the $500 m&m’s were still waiting for me. I really wanted them but there was no way I was about to spend that much money on candy. Even after applying a 15% off coupon, it was still too pricey. I thought perhaps I should just get some plain, colored m&m’s without our faces and names on them. I’m sure our guests won’t even know what they’re missing.

But come on… I am a sucker for all things adorable and these were too cute to pass up! Our happy faces on little m&ms?! Heck yes. I could not resist. So I made a compromise with Mr. S to order the smallest amount possible. You know, just to see how cute they really were before we committed to buying in bulk. The minimum order was three 7oz bags. Seriously?! 3 little bags for $42! Still overpriced in my opinion, but more affordable than $500. So, I happily placed the order.

A couple of weeks later, a cold package arrived at my door. Yes, there was an ice pack in the box to keep the chocolates from melting. Pretty clever, but don’t they know that m&ms melt in your mouth, not in your hand? hee hee.

They weren’t perfect. Some of the m&ms didn’t print as well as others, but I still thought that they turned out pretty adorable. I did not want to eat the ones with our faces on them, but I eventually gave in because I know that’s what they would have wanted. ;)

Maid of Honor N found these fabulous flower-topped favor boxes in our colors. Once again, I could not resist the cuteness, so I bought them. They were pretty inexpensive at $2.99 for a dozen.

They arrived flat like this and each one needed to be assembled.

I found that they were very time-consuming, but not difficult to put together. It took some practice to get the folds just right, but its nothing a little bit of wine and a bone folder couldn’t handle. A few careful folds later, and voila!I Want Candy: Part 2 : wedding favors food minneapolis 5

I only assembled a few to get the hang of it and will probably have my bridesmaids help me fold the rest of them the week leading up to the wedding. Hear that, girls? I’m going to finally put you to work!

The fancy m&ms found themselves a little home…

Each favor box was able to hold a good amount of m&ms. Mr. S and I both agreed that it was pretty darn perfect and we were almost convinced that spending $500 on the m&ms would be okay…

I wanted those M&Ms SO BAD for our favors! They’re way out of our budget, though :( I’ll just have to live vicariously though you!

First of all ~ THEY ARE SO CUTE I ALMOST CAN’T STAND IT!!!!! But, what about a compromise. Do half the cute ones and half plain ones. That would save $, no?

I went to a weddign with these m&ms they are adorable. You could maybe save some money by adding in another candy rather than filling the entire box with just m&ms.

Those boxes and the M&Ms and the pink and green…just so cute!! Cant wait to see what you guys are going to do! Hmm…maybe stuff some pink tissue paper in there for a filler and then put M&Ms on top? Do you still think you need $500 worth of M&Ms now that you have tested to see how many go in each box? We did the same thing to test how many we need for each favor container.

O…PS I think our bill came to $130? We had about 85 guests.

My mother-in-law bought those m&m’s for our rehearsal dinner, and we LOVED them. She just had little containers of them on the tables for people to snack on, and then she gave us two of the bags of them to take home and have later :)

It’s CRAZY how expensive it is, but I love the personal touch.

I think Maggie’s idea to use half and half of the expensive ones and the colored ones. But they are super cute!!!

we bought 10lbs of personalized (in 2 of our colors) and 5 lbs plain in our third color. With a coupon it ended up costing $325 and we filled 100 favor boxes (Definitely could’ve gotten more out of it, but we were generous on the amount)

What if you mixed in the printed ones with the same color of plain ones? That way people would still get to see the cool printed ones, but it would cost less?

Those are adorable! Until I read your posts I had no idea you can have custom-printed M&Ms. And I love the favor bags - where did you get those?

Oh my goodness those are so cute. I was going to suggest mixing in half customized and half plain ones, too. Would that work?

Love the m&m idea! We had thought about it for our welcome bags. Our intitials are M and M so I might not do the personalization.

Those flower boxes are very cute. Oriental Trading has some of the best stuff.

The boxes are so cute and totally worth the folding work!

I still say M&Ms is just getting in on the Overpriced Wedding Stuff bandwagon. If I bought 10lbs of M&Ms at Costco, it would be like $20. Why is a different color and a stamped image going to make it $300??

Just another vendor taking advantage of brides…

What if you did a small amount of the personalized ones and then did the party m&ms that you can buy in specific colors from party supply places and mix those in? that’s what my cousin did for his wedding. You’d still get teh personalization with out the huge sticker shock, and stil have the pink and green colors!
