Mrs. Dumpling, Las VegasAge and Occupation: 27, FinanceFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Real EstateEngagement Date: March, 2008Wedding Date: March, 2009Blogging Since: August 26, 2008Venue: Catholic church ceremony & golf course receptionAbout Me: I grew up in the Deep South, and while most people say I have a thick southern accent, I tend to think it only comes out when I need to use it. Living in Las Vegas has definitely been an adventure and Mr. Dumpling and I are loving every minute of it! We are planning a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony and a reception with lots of DIY! We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
When you think of vow renewal, you’re probably like me and think of boring, old people kissing in public. Gross. I think Avery (Ramona’s daughter on Real Housewives of NYC…do you watch that? I’m obsessed.) said it right when she said, “there’s a dress… there’s a cake… this is ridiculous.”
I know that makes me sound like a hater, but maybe I haven’t been to any good vow renewals. Well, until now. Remember that YouTube wedding entrance with the Chris Brown song? And then The Office recreated it for Jim & Pam’s wedding? Well, one night my friend Kristin, Director of Operations for Chippendales Las Vegas, decided that if she and her husband were going to do one of those vow renewals, that they better do something out of the ordinary. After a few brainstorming sessions (and quiet possibly a few drinks!) this is what she came up with.
This is how you do your vow renewal, Vegas Style. Check out these crazies: Read more…

Mrs. Hamster, New York CityAge and Occupation: 28, Finance GalFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance GuyEngagement Date: March 9, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Pierre HotelAbout Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
In my invitation reveal, you may have noticed that we decided to go with a “Black Tie Optional” dress code. We didn’t really put much thought into this - we (okay I) just thought it would be kinda neat if some guys decided to show up looking like this:
Okay, I mean our male guests showing up in tuxes, not looking like RP, but a girl can dream, right? Read more…
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force PilotEngagement Date: February 21, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill WineryAbout Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
Hello there! Remember me? I’m sorry that it’s been quiet around here… the past few weeks have been really busy and exciting. I took my last set of finals EVER, and last Friday I graduated law school!!
Ms. Jellyfish, J.D.! I really wanted to make some kind of lawyer/jellyfish joke, but all I could find was this hilarious ad - now I know who to call if someone throws jellyfish at me!
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
I’ve mentioned before how helpful it was to be the MOH in Sister Starfish’s wedding right before planning our own. I learned a lot from her wedding. The number one thing I took away from her and BIL Starfish’s wedding was to make it personal.
A wedding is a celebration of a couple’s love for each other. It’s awesome to see the little details that really represent a couple. I was overwhelmed by the personal touches weaved throughout Sister and BIL Starfish’s wedding day. They created a day that really represented who they are. I hope our personalities shine through on our wedding day.
Here’s how they made it personal:
1. Including talented friends- They shared not only their love for each other on their wedding day, but the love and admiration they have for their friends. Three of their very talented friends were included in special parts of their day. A friend officiated the ceremony, and another played the piano along with a third friend who sang. The pianist and singer sang for both the ceremony and the special dances during the reception.
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, DallasAge and Occupation: 28, Special Projects CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity TraderEngagement Date: March 19, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Marie Gabrielle, DallasAbout Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
Can you believe it? It’s already been a month since we got married! I feel like a junior high girl counting my relationship in terms of months, but being a newlywed is so great, it’s hard not to recognize the milestones however little they might be.
So what did we do to celebrate? We pulled out our cake’s top layer.
Now before you scold me and say that I’m supposed to save that for the one YEAR anniversary, not one month, let me tell you how big the top layer of a cake really is. Do people consume that whole thing on their one year anniversary? It’s got at least 12 pieces, if not more! Why wait and eat cake only once a year when I can have delicious cake once a month! Ms Seahorse, BostonAge and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-tradesFiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something betterEngagement Date: October 17, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Fort Pond LodgeAbout Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
As usual, I need your advice. I don’t know what to wear.
This is a problem that has long plagued me. I am known in certain circles for walking around in knee socks, slippers, underwear, and a sweatshirt, because I can’t figure out what pants to wear and clothes are overwhelming. I may have even video chatted with my former roommate to show her the awesomeness of this outfit. Okay, I was only wearing one sock. Even two socks were overwhelming.
So you can imagine what it’s like to try to figure out what to wear for my stupid wedding. Which isn’t stupid at all, except for the part where I have to wear nice clothes for it.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Online SalesEngagement Date: February 8, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Amy's ManorAbout Me: I'm an opinionated Midwestern girl now living in the Valley of the Sun marrying a laid back Northwestern guy. I'm equal parts sass, silly and sweet. I'm fiercely loyal with a strong devotion to my family and friends. I have a not-so-secret obsession with apple juice, a new obsession with DIY projects and I love a really good cheese plate...with lots of wine. After 7 blissful years of dating, I'm having the time of my life planning the destination wedding of my dreams to my Mr. Frog-turned-Prince Charming.
Centerpieces, tents and tables, oh my! No no, don’t go – I promise to try to refrain from future cheesiness.
So after gushing about all of the fun centerpiece ideas I found, I finally hit the motherload and cannot wait to see the interpretation our florist comes up with. Have I mentioned our kick ass florist? Well, allow me to make proper introductions.
Meet Lynn with Fleur de lis. Not only is she crazy talented, we connected so well between in person and email/phone conversations that I’ve come to think of her like a favorite aunt. I just adore her. She gets it… better yet, she gets me. I write with ideas, she comes back with encouragement and ways to build on those ideas. It’s a wonderful collaboration.
When I found my dreamboat centerpiece inspiration, I about flipped. Read more…

Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
I pulled several dresses at the bridal shop for my MOH to try on when I was home over Christmas. I made sure the dresses I pulled came in the Dessy Pantone “Smashing”, which was assigned to my sister as well as one other bridesmaid. I’d initially hoped to put them in Lela Rose dresses, but no one seemed to like them. Sad day for me. I thought they were adorable. (That’s what you get for letting your girls pick their own dresses.)
Dress One. This is the exact color my sister will be wearing, and was my first choice pick when I pulled dresses. Since she’s pretty slim and boy cut, I liked the layers and flower to give her shape a little extra “oomph”. Read more…
Mrs. Hermit Crab, New York, NYAge and Occupation: 24, Youth Director soon to be Grad StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Medical Student - soon to be Surgery ResidentEngagement Date: October 11, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: New York Botanical GardenAbout Me: I love all things food, books, our furbaby, Rashi, and adventures with my amazing fiance (oh, and saving the world!). This summer I will not only be a bride, but a bridesmaid, officiant, and attendee as well---it's all about weddings in my life right now, full of so many exciting moments and projects. We're planning a fab New York City wedding weekend full of family, love and lots of color!
There were oh-so-many things that we (okay, I) wanted to DIY, and our ketubah was one of them. A ketubah is a Jewish wedding contract; the original Hebrew text actually reads a lot like a prenup, outlining the groom’s responsibility to the bride. In addition to being an important part of a Jewish wedding ceremony, many couples now use it as an art piece that commemorates their wedding day and commitment to one another. There are so many beautiful Ketubahs that you can get nowadays; Mrs Spaniel, Miss Trail Mix and Mrs Hot Cocoa have all written about their experience finding ketubahs.
We spent some time looking at hundreds of ketubahs online, and found so many different ones, from painting to paper cuts.
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
The morning after the wedding, Mr. N and I got all dressed up again (luckily my hair stayed in place overnight) and met up with Blair for our trash the dress photo shoot. I have to tell you that for me, this was by far one of the most fun things we did on our trip. All photos courtesy of Blair’s Eye View Photography.
Mrs. Sunrise, MinneapolisAge and Occupation: 27, Client Relations LiaisonFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Senior Technical Support AnalystEngagement Date: December 26, 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: The Oaks banquet room at Eagan Community CenterAbout Me: I am a crafty and optimistic, laid back girly-girl who fell in love with a video game-playin', hip hop-lovin', Lego-buildin', computer-techie nerd. I get easily distracted by shiny objects (oohhh pretty..) and I have more shoes than I can count (but I still need more). I love to shake my booty to Lady Gaga’s music but she frightens the hell outta me. Mr. Sunrise and I could not be any more different, but you know what they say… opposites attract! We met over 9 years ago while working for a local grocery store. It was love at first “Clean-up in Aisle 5!” We are both Chicago-born and raised, but recently relocated to Minnesota for his career. I will always remain a Windy City gal through and through, but I cannot deny my love for the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Nine years ago, the man now known as my fiance asked me to be his girlfriend. We were slow-dancing at my high school Valentine’s dance and he had just slipped a necklace over my head. It was just a cheap keychain hanging on a red ribbon, provided by the school. But I thought it was very sweet. I think Mr. Sunrise was nervous, but I couldn’t really tell over the loud pounding of my own heartbeat. I answered “yes” and then he kissed me for the first time.
I remember being super-shy and nervous. It was the first time I had asked a boy to accompany me to a school dance, and definitely the first time I had gone to one with a college boy. I’m an old-fashioned kind of gal and I don’t normally do the asking, but you see, this dance was called The “Turnabout” Dance. The girls were supposed to ask the boys to the dance. I knew Mr. Sunrise from my part-time job at the local supermarket and although we hit it off at work, I wasn’t sure if he would want to go to some cheesy high school dance with me.
It took me weeks, but I finally mustered up the courage to ask him. Read more…
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
So remember how I was going to make my veil? Well, it’s a month before the wedding, so I’d have a snowball’s chance in hell to be able to gain the veil-making skills, time, or energy needed to make my own veil. So, buying it is.
The week before last, at dress fitting numero dos, I played with veils. Remember my original veil inspiration?
The long veils were wonderful, and a bunch of fun to play with, but I also fell for a pure silk, fingertip length, pointed-bottom, pencil-edged waterfall veil. Oh boy, was it ever beautiful. It hung so delicately––it was transparent, light, and dreamy. The veil-lady at the shop said that if I didn’t buy a pure silk veil, it would end up looking crunchy, not hang right, and basically kill my whole dress look. Wikiwhat? Dress killing? Equipped with this new paranoia, we asked for the price.
