The Lobsie Twins have planned the Lobsterlette Party!! And it’s not the usual strippers and dildos-type party. Instead we are taking a trip to (guess, guess):

That’s right! Atlantis Paradise Island! Here’s what’s in store for us:
Artificial but awesome water structures:

Since we are doing a destination wedding, we knew we wanted to make the most of the weekend with so many people having to travel to be there with us. And really, who doesn’t love a weekend-long party?
Once we determined our venue, we needed to decide on what to do for our rehearsal dinner. We loved the idea of incorporating Frogger’s family lake house so it only made sense that our rehearsal dinner be there. And since our wedding is a destination for the majority of our guests, we thought it would be a great idea to open our rehearsal dinner up to everyone and make it more of a rehearsal party.
Can I tell you how much I love the fact that we have a full weekend of wedding festivities? All of our favorite people hanging out together in our favorite place… I just can’t wait!

When people ask me how wedding planning is going I’ve started to reply, “I’m like a greedy child who ate too many cookies.”

Meaning? Well, let’s just say I’m a planner. That’s not even the right word. I just like to get things done. I love checking things off a “to do” list. I’ve got my baby names narrowed down and I had our wedding date circled in red ink after we’d only been dating a few months. I started decorating our condo before we had our closing, and I write down what I wear in my planner so I don’t repeat outfits too often. And, fine, I’ll get real:

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
As we made our way down to the pool area, we had no idea what was in store for us (and nothing screams class like a bride and groom with beer cans).

We met up with our families who had grabbed a few tables for some food…

Okay, so the last time I talked about dresses, I had decided that I wanted my own consultant to bring me dresses to try on, and that it would be a fun experiment, and that I, of course, would not want to wear a dress for our wedding.
Let’s back up a little and talk about this whole thing where I’m a lady in love with a lady: when I first started to really come out, to myself most honestly, but to other people too, I remember being surprised that it still seemed strange to me that women would kiss women, and men would kiss men. I know this is controversial to say, so imagine how controversial it was to feel that, to feel like two women kissing was like magnets with their wrong ends facing each other, when I was a woman wanting to kiss women. The place I really got over that feeling was at a folk festival, where we were surrounded by all kinds of families, and it struck me that they were just families, not “lesbian” families.
But the thing about two dress weddings (I’m sorry for saying this!) is that it still felt the same to me.

Hi all! Over the next few months Project Wedding will be featuring some of the bees’ Real Weddings, featuring a lot of pics you haven’t seen yet from their gorgeous weddings.

Check out Mrs. Cowboy Boot’s Real Wedding feature over at Project Wedding all this week and stay tuned for more in depth features on bees’ weddings!
Originally, I was going to wait until after the wedding to make our thank you cards. Maybe I could use a nice picture of us in wedding garb, or something.
However, with the advent of the humongous-second-reception and the fact that we’ve already started receiving a few gifts, I don’t think it’s something that should wait.
I played around with a couple different ideas - one of my favorites included a three panel comic with Mr. Sew yelling at the end, “No, we do not intend on having kids yet!” But ultimately I drew up this option instead:
Get it? Leveling?

Ch-ch-ch-change is a-coming. Does anyone else feel the same way? I’ve always felt like change comes in waves. There are stable periods where you can sit back, have nothing planned, enjoy a glass of wine, and relax with the pleasant feeling of having nothing on the short term horizon.
Weddings almost feel like the complete opposite. To me, I feel like the pre-wedding period is like the rolling of the waves, and as you approach toward the wedding day, you start to approach the crest of the wave. Maybe the wedding itself is the pinnacle cresting of the wave. It makes a beautiful big crash and then things go back to the calm.
After a meltdown, it’s often easier to start to see through the haze and take a moment to realize what you’re going through. Many of you suggested stopping to smell the spring flowers, and I basically told you in a childish voice, “No, I don’t want to.” Well, I’ve had my moment, and I’m ready to be a grown up again. It took a while, but growth isn’t easy right? And even more importantly, flowers don’t grow if you only have sunny days. You need days of rain and some “body” to hold onto (Thanks Mr Hot Wings). So cry… uh… I mean rain it did, and now the growth and change is a coming.
As Mr. Hot Wings and I approach our life together, we’ll be moving from our Chicago home to a new home in the Boston area.

Oh, you thought maybe I was done talking about our wedding? That’s very funny.
Our florist was Orna Maymon from Ornamento, and she did a fabulous job. Orna is not exactly a budget florist, but extremely talented and very familiar with our venue. Also, since we weren’t having that many flowers, I thought it was worthwhile to splurge a little on the whittled-down list we did have, which included:
Yep, that was it! But then…
After we changed our minds and decided to have a ceremony, I thought it would be nice to have some flowers for decoration. I called Orna with what I thought was a sufficient amount to procure two ceremony altar pieces plus aisle decor to boot. In response, she told me that my proposed amount would cover *one* arrangement. Er?

Catch up with Part 1 (aka the cute ones).
Hive, I share these with you because I will be sharing them with our 300 guests, but please, be gentle! These are tough years for many kids and the Hermit Crabs were no exception (although I think Mr. Hermit Crab always looked adorable :D). All pictures are personal photos.
It was the mid ’90s. You wore oversized t-shirts too! (I hope)
I do not like to DIY.
Gasp. I said it. Please don’t judge me.
I love to craft. I mean, practically my entire childhood exists within several scrapbooks I put together. But, I can hardly muster the energy for a DIY project. However, I do LOVE to see everyone else’s DIY projects (some serious envy going on).
With a guest list nearing 300 (yes, you read that correctly), DIY-ing anything for that many people makes my head spin. So, I’m a big fan of PSE. You know, “Paying someone else” to do it (a phrase keyed by friend Meagan).
Here’s a little background:
1. I originally thought we could hang our paper lanterns. And, then 20 seconds later I snapped back to reality. Who am I? Nuts? So we hired Exclusive Events to handle the hanging of our paper lanterns, and to do some other fantastic event production decor (lighting, mostly).

I didn’t just sew, paint, cut, hot glue, and assemble. I did this:

I baked tons and tons of cupcakes, cake-balls and mini cupcakes. To be exact:
I know, it sounds crazy! But after reading Mrs. Sprinkle’s adventures baking her own vegan cupcakes, I though it could actually be fun! So I talked to her and she gave me a few thoughts about when to make them! Even though I was a little intimidated by the idea, I proceeded to plan and BAKE! I LOVE baking!
