Oh-my-geeeee. After my first attempt at an inspiration board, I was not feeling so inspired. Mainly, the process wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped. I couldn’t get the pictures to easily fit together so it took forever (and I was probably being too specific about the photos I was using).
Enter Picasa. I’ve used Picasa forever, but just discovered a little feature called “collage”. Whaaaa? How had I missed this? Check this out!

… unless it’s the Hammies.
Hive, I’d like your opinion. And I’m really hoping that it will confirm *my* opinion, but we shall see, won’t we?

When Fiancee Seahorse (hereby referred to as Fancee, because she is fancy and I don’t want to call her Miss Seahorse) and I finally decided we were going to do this whole big wedding thing, the crafty possibilities were thrilling to me. I spent a good chunk of time investigating different projects online, including, of course, invitations and Save the Dates (or STDs if you are cool enough to know the wedding lingo). I should probably be done being amused that the first thing people generally send out about their monogamous, hopefully-forever relationship is called the same thing as a venereal diseases, but to be perfectly honest, I still giggle a little every time I reference STDs in a wedding context.
So we started where every crafty bride starts: Etsy. Here is some of what we were looking at:

I’m going to show you guys something. It’s the inspiration board for Mr. Pin Cushion’s and my wedding. But there is something else I have to tell you. It was a solid 14+ months into our engagement before I came up with this board. Before that, I had another board, with another color scheme, and I had even asked my bridesmaids to start looking for dresses in the other colors. But then I had an existential crisis and decided it was all wrong. I couldn’t possibly get married surrounded by yellow and orange and red! The earth might catch on fire if I did that. Or dinosaurs might be resurrected.
So I changed. And my bridesmaids still love me (at least they continue to pretend very well). And my fiance only thinks I’m a bit crazier that he had thought I was before. And I am much happier.
Phew. It feels good to get that all off of my chest. And now I can show you the board:

Row 1 Sources: Ice Cream, Fuchsia, Red Stripes (personal photo-Ikea fabric), Liberty of London Fabric, Bow-tie
Row 2 Sources: Flowers, Cake, Croquet Set, Red Dress, Green Burlap, Gingham, Strawberries and Flowers,
Row 3 Sources: Flowers, Jam, Green dress, Strawberry Baskets, Baker’s Twine
Mama Veggie came through big time this week. You see, we are about 4 months (yikes! I mean 3 months) away from wedding day and I still hadn’t seen actual pictures of the inside of our venue. There are numerous reasons for this. Because of the whole double booking debacle, we were in a bit of a rush to book a new venue. Which meant booking based on website pics only. Granted, this picture is gorgeous, but it leaves a lot to the imagination… namely the entire interior.

I’ve been asking for interior pics, but the camp director’s wife just had a baby and so he’s been a little out of the loop lately. Which is totally understandable. Oh yeah, and then there’s the fact that we are planning from approximately 8 billion miles away and so there’s no way that we could actually go visit the venue ourselves.
I was starting to freak out a little.

I didn’t really know where to start looking for a dress. The internet is a great resource, and I got my hands on every magazine I could, but I had no idea how to begin trying on dresses and finding the right one.
My mom, with the best of intentions, made an appointment for us to go check out Kleinfeld in Manhattan. You can read about how I prepared for my first appointment here. In addition, I started watching Say Yes to the Dress in anticipation. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that helped. I was not looking forward to my first appointment because I thought of myself as a little more low-key than many of the brides that they feature.

Some time ago, I talked about my wedding day jewelry: a rhinestone hair doodad and earrings. It took me a while to be able to actually decide between the two earring contenders due to the fact my left ear piercing closed and I had to get it re-pierced!
Last weekend marked the point at which I could take out the tyke earrings. I jumped in front of the mirror to try on both pairs of earrings and I was completely wowed by the studs. Enormous and sparkly, I felt like an ex-wife of Donald Trump, in a good way. But even with big first wife earrings, I felt a little bare, so I went out and bought a bracelet on sale. It is perfection. I have a funny neurosis about wearing earrings and a necklace together; don’t ask.

I know. I already have my wedding dress. And you’re not supposed to look at any more dresses after you’ve bought “the one”. I couldn’t help but peek at Monique Lhuillier’s new Spring 2011 collection to see what awesomeness she’s created for the next season of brides. Here are some of my favorites taken from Martha Stewart Weddings’ fashion section:
You’d think by the title of this post that I’d be talking about myself and Frogger… but you’ve been foiled again, dear friends! Do you like how I use exclamation points for no reason? Me too.
The center of attention that I’m talking about is centerpieces. I can’t get enough of that gorgeous eye candy and once we determined our venue, I knew that centerpieces were going to be one of the next things on my list. My real challenge was finding something that would complement the overall surroundings. With our colors being blue, gray and purple, I knew I needed a good combination of those colors to create the look I was going for. That’s not difficult at all… gray flowers are super common.
Here are some of the ideas I found that I was drawn to:
(source) I love the mod look of this but unfortunately we have round tables and I just don’t feel like this is the right fit for our overall feel.
The biggest disappointment during our wedding planning is something I’m still trying to get over. If you’ve been following along, you may remember Mr. S and I met in college. I knew early on he was the one and envisioned getting married at our school’s chapel, Ochre Court. Ochre Court is the most significant mansion on the school’s campus and hosts not only the chapel, but also many of the school’s events. It’s where Mr S and I had our first dance and many other amazing memories during our four years of school. I knew it would be the place we said I do. At least I thought I did.
Prior to proposing, Mr. S looked into the requirements of getting married at the chapel. On top of being too pricey for us, they also maxed out at 150 guests. At that time we assumed our wedding would be attended by 300 guests—we’ve now gotten it down to a little under 200. But we knew a 150 maximum capacity was not doable. We tried to come up with different options, like having a smaller ceremony, but we didn’t like excluding anyone. I was really disappointed and I’m still not over it. I keep wishing some way we could get everyone to fit, but even if we could, they only have ceremonies when school is not in session, so that limits it to pretty much summer and winter break, and smaller breaks in between. So at this point, everything is booked and on a date that is during the school session, so it’s a definite no.

Nothing has made this whole getting married thing feel more real than the fun mail I’ve started receiving over the past couple of weeks!
This is for the bridal shower that my bridesmaids are throwing for me on May 23rd (the day after my graduation!). One of my sweet friends and bridesmaids designed the invitation herself. Sooo precious!
Oh, the things that distract us from preparing for marriage. You know, like that itty bitty detail of planning a wedding. Honestly, choosing the gorgeous invitations, beautiful flowers, and the perfect white dress is massively time consuming! It’s absolutely mind-blowing how the list goes on and on and on and on… creating a wedding website, registering, choosing bridesmaid dresses, selecting a menu… I know, I know, I’m preaching to the choir. However, with nasty statistics on divorce growing ever more prevalent (the dreaded 50%), AND the divorce risk being highest within the first two years of marriage, numbers seem to suggest we are insufficiently prepared for “until death do us part”.

You have probably become a master at preparing for your wedding. But how do you prepare for marriage? Sure, most of us are cohabitating so we feel like we’ve given married life a test-run, but is that enough? For some maybe, for some maybe not.

Now, what is a napkin treatment, you ask? I’m honestly not sure if I’m making that up, or if I’ve heard it somewhere. But when I told Professor Paisley what I was doing, he looked utterly confused, so let me explain:
I am doing DIY napkins out of various colors of fabric. Navy blue, grays, yellows, pinks. I’m trying to put one color per long table, but it might not work out that way, so I needed a way to tie all these colors together.
I had some white eyelet fabric left over from my candle project, and I already had my pinking shears out from cutting all those 20X20″ squares of fabric.
So I made these:

Little napkin belly bands.
