After my last post on the thoroughly researched and highly scientific theory that the length of engagement has a direct relationship with the length of a relationship, an outpouring of new data was brought to my attention (in the form of your comments). These new data points (92 to be exact) allowed me to develop a new and improved theory:
There is absolutely no relationship, neither direct nor indirect nor anything in between, correlating the length of engagement and the length of a couple’s courtship.
(If anyone can find a relationship in the mess of dots below, speak up, since you all are likely much better mathematicians than I [I bite my thumb in your general direction, Calculus!]).
[Mind blowing Excel graph, once again, created by yours truly]
In case you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a little bit of a hippie. My parents, especially back in the day, were even more so. In fact, they lived on a Sufi commune before I was born, which still exists today. I even attended the elementary school there from kindergarten through 6th grade.
I’m getting married about half a mile down the road from my childhood homage to hippie-dom and therefore, it felt fitting to include a Rumi (great Sufi poet) poem in our ceremony as a nod to the community that had such influence in my upbringing.
The poem is so beautiful, I want to share it with you all…
A moment of happiness,
you and I
sitting on the verandah,
apparently two,
but one in soul,
you and I.

Mr. Sunbeam and I are foodies. We splurge on a nice meal out about once month because we can’t help ourselves. While we couldn’t really splurge on the food for our wedding, we were still able to find a caterer who worked with use to create a delicious menu with food that reflected us and the fall season.
If you’ve read my profile you know I am a lover of cheese and Mr. Sunbeam is a lover of wine.

Two weeks before our wedding, I considered my to-do list and then promptly cut it in half by losing pipe dream projects. There were items that we no longer had a budget for (black and white snack table with Oreos on shots of milk and homemade whoopie pies!), items I couldn’t find (perfect parents’ gifts), and items that were just not that big of a priority anymore. Our card box fell into all three categories. I had thought I wanted something cool and antique to fit our vintage vibe, but never ran across the right piece at the right price. I was sick of spending money on things that weren’t going to last but one night. At the end of the day, I came to the conclusion that I would make a box with items I had on hand.

Even though I told you we completed the wedding party outfits, I forgot to share what the Hottie Women Friends are wearing.
In choosing the Hottie dress, I had 2 main goals. (1) I wanted a dress that all ladies would feel comfortable in (maybe even beautiful). And (2) I wanted it to be relatively affordable. I have ladies of many different heights, weights, shapes, with or without boobs, tall and short. I really wanted pictures of our wedding party to showcase how beautiful everyone is. As you might have noticed from how much I talk about wanting everyone to look beautiful, I have no worries that anyone will steal the spotlight from me or any concerns that someone will outshine me.
Anyways, finding the perfect dress was freaking hard! Aside from wanting everyone to look beautiful, I realized how much of a people-pleaser I really am. If even one of my EIGHT ladies said anything about disliking a dress, I moved on to another choice.
At first, I fell in love with the Two Birds Bridesmaid dresses.

Inspired by Mrs. Joey’s fabulous accordion fold programs, Mr. Dolphin and I embarked on a long and labor intensive journey to create these babies. Wait… I have to stop for a moment and just tell you all how much I love the hive—there is so much help and inspiration here. When it came to actually getting our programs to sit properly in our little basket, Miss Cola had already come up with the perfect solution and shared it with us. She is so clever!
I had been coveting sweet accordion fold programs for MONTHS (should I say years?). But, time and time again Mr. Dolphin would say ’no’, deeming them expensive and too much work. I somehow convinced him that we should do them about 4 weeks ago, and he jumped right on board. We have this saying around our house (especially when it comes to wedding DIYs)—if you’re going to do it, then you better do it right.
Following the instructions given by the sweet Mrs. Joey in her post, we made our accordion inserts legal size (so that we could print them on our laser printer). Now, I would reveal the inside of our programs, but I’d rather leave those a mystery for now, as Mr. Dolphin and I have included a few things in there for our guests’ eyes, and we’d like to keep some part of our wedding a secret (I know… this is sorta difficult when you blog)!
But, I shall show you the cover, ’cause I loves it, and it makes me happy. ![]()

After we said our vows, it was time to mingle, eat, drink, and celebrate with our loved ones!
I love a good cocktail hour. Love it love it love it. A drink in one hand, a tasty morsel in the other, mingling, laughing, and the fun vibe of getting the evening started. It was crucial to me not to miss the cocktail hour. We did steal away for a few minutes with our photographer somewhere in there (honestly, I can’t remember exactly when), but otherwise we were present and in force for the festivities.
To start things off, immediately after the ceremony—and I mean immediately, as in, the servers were waiting with trays at the back of the ceremony—guests were greeted with our Bee’s Knees cocktails…
Hey hive! Today we’re launching a new feature that allows you to share your favorite vendors right here on the front page! If you’ve worked with a vendor you really loved, you can show off pictures of their hard work and your beautiful wedding with the blog!
Our premiere review is from hive member JupiterLee of her photographer Kat Braman Photography in Jupiter, Fl.
As a “military spouse”, one of the questions I frequently hear is: “How do you do it?” That question is usually followed by something along the lines of “I wouldn’t be able to do it. I freak out when my boyfriend/fiancé/husband is gone for even one night.” After I finish rolling my eyes (sorry), my answer tends to be: I do it because I have to. No one wants to be apart from their loved ones, but you just learn to deal with it.
This post is about dealing with military deployments. It’s been a long time coming and I’m sorry I didn’t write it sooner. I feel like it’s hard to write about this because everyone has such different experiences with deployments and I’m by no means an expert. I also think I’m extremely lucky because when Mr. Jellyfish deploys, it’s usually only for 2.5 months at a time, not 12-15 months like many other service members. So I think part of me felt guilty giving advice about how to deal with it, since I’m relatively fortunate. But I think it’s always nice to share our experiences and know that we aren’t alone in these things.

Our little family, at 5 AM the day Mr. Jelly deployed last year in November (we put the tree up early!).

I love the idea of including family photos from the weddings of parents, grandparents, and other family members in our wedding. There are many ways to do so as posted by Miss Argyle and Mrs. Spaniel. In my searching I’ve also come across these:

In my last bachelorette party post, we had cupcakes, painted some pottery and got fantabulous. But what was up next? My friends kept me in the dark each step of the way, but when our cab stopped in the swanky Meatpacking District, I knew we were up for something good.
Turns out we were booked at the Soho House for the night. Woooooo!! If it’s good enough for the SATC girls, it’s good enough for the Hammy entourage!

MOH Sis Hamster and BM A went up a few minutes early to “prepare the suite” - was that code speak for “undress the stripper”? I would soon find out. We were finally summoned upstairs…

I know I can’t possibly be the only bride out there who is planning a wedding and hears these dreaded words, “I don’t care.” Can I tell you how much I’ve learned to dislike that phrase?
Scenario:
Miss Frog: Hey, can you come look at this?
Frogger: Look at what?
Miss Frog: These fonts I’m trying to decide between.
Frogger: Fonts…?
Miss Frog: Uh ya, fonts.
Frogger: Okay.
Miss Frog: So, what do you think…do you like this font or this font?
Frogger: {looks} I don’t care.
Love is sweet, indeed. Moody and her fiance share a frozen yogurt in San Francisco.

Hello hive!
I could not possibly be more excited to BEE here! When I found out, Mr. Hermit Crab said to me, “I think you’re more excited than when you got into graduate school.” He might be right.
The Hermit Crabs on vacation
Who are the Hermit Crabs? We have been living in Syracuse, NY for three years where I am a youth director (and I love my job!) and he is a medical student. In just two weeks, he’ll graduate and we’ll move back home to New York City where he will start a surgery residency and I’ll go back to graduate school for master’s in social work (I promise I’m excited about that, too!). I love to laugh, spend time with friends and family, and all things food (eating, baking, cooking, you name it!). Mr. Hermit Crab and I are totally dedicated to giving back to the community, and we try weave that into our lives and our wedding as much as possible.

You might remember my little problem from last week (lame vendor ruined my plans for purple chargers on our reception tables)?
Well, we’ve come up with a solution that might work, but it will be putting us a little over what I had budgeted for table decorations. So for now I’ll leave you all in suspense, because our decision depends on how many RSVPs we get back (and there are still quite a few missing even though the response deadline was Saturday). If we have enough ’nos’ we’ll move forward with our over-budget plan, since we’ll still be under budget on food and liquor.
But in the meantime, I wanted to show you all this other fun way to add pops of color to your tables. My mom found this in a June/July 2008 issue of a UK magazine called Wedding Flowers. Simply tie bunches of lavender (or other flowers) to a lace overlay, and you’ve got accents of color all over!
