Splendor in the grass, indeed. Terrbear401 and her hubby-to-be enjoy San Francisco’s sunshine.

The wedding day sure looks different from the other side of things. While my bridesmaids and I spent hours “in” hair and makeup (leaving us no time for anything other than room service), my groom and his men were able to head to the hotel restaurant for a long, relaxing brunch buffet. Hmph. On the other hand, they had to arrange their own transportation to the venue (we got to take the hotel shuttle, because we delicate flowers can’t be bothered to drive), and get way fewer pictures of them getting ready.
We can draw the story out by starting when my brother-in-law (HA! I GET TO SAY THAT NOW!)’s girlfriend walked in with the guys’ boutonnieres.

A few days before our 9th dating anniversary, Mr. Sunrise announced that I needed to pack an overnight bag because he was taking me somewhere special that weekend to celebrate. But he wouldn’t tell me where we were going! Okay, technically it wasn’t a kidnapping since I went on my own free will, but still… all I knew was that we were leaving town and would be back some time before work on Monday.
The drive was pretty long and I was getting antsy, so I did what I do best in these situations: I took a nap. Almost 3 hours later, I awoke to a beautiful scenic drive along Lake Superior. Mr. Sunrise had taken us almost 200 miles up north to Duluth, MN.

Save me from myself.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with beautiful writing. I knew I wanted to have calligraphy on our invitation envelopes, but I also knew that I wasn’t willing to shell out a whole bunch of money to have someone do it for me. Luckily, I have some very crafty friends, and bridesmaid Lauren assured me that I could learn calligraphy, just as she did for her wedding.
Now, when Lauren does something, she does it 100%.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Why must the first wedding decision you have to make –the venue– be the decision with the most long-term consequences? Your venue dictates the ’feel’ of your wedding, if it’s going to be outdoors or inside, how many people you can invite, and so many more important issues! It seems that you should be eased into weddings… like choosing your cake flavors first!
After the Pin-ster and I had been engaged for about 9 months, we decided it was (finally) time to crack down on the venue choice. We scoped out locations online and narrowed our options down from approximately one kajillion to a handful of possible locations. We didn’t call ahead, or set up any appointments to meet with coordinators. We just winged it (wung it?) on our own, rogue-style.
Our first stop was Hacienda de las Flores in Moraga (due east of Berkeley). The location was beautiful, flowers were blooming everywhere (I guess the “Flores” part of their name is true), and the grass was Wizard of Oz-technicolor green.

We hope that during our cocktail hour, our guests will have time to sign our guestbook in between their stuff-yo-face moments. I did, after all, spend much longer on this than the probably the average bee buzzing around here. I blame this on my own ignorance of color printer settings, incorrect margin setting on Microsoft Word (my unrequited love) and supremely awful paper cutting skills (Mom Hamster steps in to save the day. Again).
But despite all this, our guestbook is finished… tada!
Hello, my name is Hamster, and I can’t take non-crooked photos.

With only two weeks left until the wedding, there have been loads of presents arriving on our doorstep almost daily (hence my first-name relationship with our UPS man. I think he likes me because we live on a 5th-floor walk-up and I always walk down a flight or two to meet him because he’s really old and I always worry he won’t be able to make it up all the stairs!).
Anyways, trusty UPS man showed up the other day with this box.
Sweetness, I thought. Wonder what it is?
Could it be a lovely, wooden bowl, perfect for housing salads and Halloween candy?
Here’s my big list o’ vendors and details.
Bridal Attire and Appearance
Bridal Salon: Hannelore’s, Alexandria, Virginia
Hannelore’s has a wide selection of dresses and is a full-service bridal shop. My sales consultant Sally was very pleasant and patient, although overall the store felt a tad impersonal to me. Also, if you do buy your dress there and you do not have complicated alterations, I highly recommend going elsewhere for the alterations because Hannelore’s alteration fees are fairly outrageous. My dress was Marisa #775. Would anybody like to buy? I’m selling it.
How many proposals can one couple have? I don’t know how other couples do this whole agreeing-to-marry-each-other thing, but I do know that, at least in theory, both people should be in on it before one person asks the other. So if we go with this idea, then the two people at least have a conversation about marriage before they become “officially” engaged, whatever that means – right?
So here’s our story, part 1: My ring.
We’ll begin shortly after Fancee told me she would like to marry me (see Case C here). It had already been established that I wanted to marry her (that is a story for another time), so this proclamation meant that we were in the same place on this one. At first I thought that I wanted to propose and give Fancee a ring, and I still did, but I realized as I looked at rings for her that I wanted a ring as well (does this sound anything like the dress situation?).

Yello! Now that we’ve wrapped up the wedding day festivities, it’s time to hone in on the details that Piglet-sized our wedding. It’ll be a hodgepodge of sorts, highlighting the paper goods, DIY projects, decor/floral, and delicious eats we selected for our buffet spread. I’ll also do my best to answer the questions that were asked most frequently over the course of our recaps. And here we go!
Allow me to rewind and start from the veryyyy beginning where the madness began: our save the date boarding passes. Notice the goof we made on the date? Such rookies we were. We purchased the hibiscus vector image from iStockphoto, designed the boarding pass in Illustrator, and printed them on my Canon Pixma inkjet printer after chucking the ruined ones from our failed Gocco attempt.

Hi hive!
Due to increased traffic, Weddingbee had been working slower and slower for a few weeks, and we’re doing everything we can behind the scenes to make Weddingbee as speedy as possible. You may have noticed our new system of paging comments over the past couple of
days. It’s pretty self explanatory, but basically, Weddingbee posts will display the first 20 comments on one page, and any subsequent comments on page 2, 3, 4, and so on.

We’ve found that logging comments this way increases the speed of the blog dramatically. We hope you’re noticing that the site has been speedier over the past couple days, save for the drama we all experienced with our DNS server.*
Let us know if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to answer them!
*We’re trying to find out the specific person over at our domain registrar company who messed up Weddingbee so we can give him a swift kick in the nuts. Just kidding. But we sincerely hope that things on Weddingbee are returning to normal for you, and if not, they will continue to work themselves out as your browser caches the correct Weddingbee pages you’re viewing.
Shalom Bayit is Hebrew for peace in the home.
I mentioned previously that I didn’t feel that different after we moved in together because it felt like the natural next step for us. However, we did make it a special experience for both of us (actually, you’ll soon find out, Mr. Hermit Crab made it special for me!).
Shortly before I moved to Syracuse, and in with Mr. Hermit Crab, we visited Israel. My birthday was in the middle of trip, and Mr. Hermit Crab gave me a very special present. He found a framed and painted version of the Birkat HaBayit - Blessing for the Home, and gave it to me to hang in our new home together.

One hour is all we get to set up for our reception.
You know, that one hour, when Mr. Sew and I are at the altar getting married?
I have no idea what we’re going to do. I didn’t bother with a coordinator or wedding planner since Mr. Sew’s family assured me they could handle it. Plus I thought I could handle it. Someone we spoke to at our venue said we could set up earlier if there was no event prior to ours, giving me hope I shouldn’t have allowed myself to have.
