Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
I finally decided I should do a ribbon project. Surprise surprise!
Ribs and I opted to do a sweetheart table at the reception, so I wanted to hang something above our table, to denote it and add a little bit of interest to our room.
I liked the big tissue balls from a past MSW issue, but I wanted to do something different. I didn’t document the whole process because I’m bad, but I bought the following materials: Read more…

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Online SalesEngagement Date: February 8, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Amy's ManorAbout Me: I'm an opinionated Midwestern girl now living in the Valley of the Sun marrying a laid back Northwestern guy. I'm equal parts sass, silly and sweet. I'm fiercely loyal with a strong devotion to my family and friends. I have a not-so-secret obsession with apple juice, a new obsession with DIY projects and I love a really good cheese plate...with lots of wine. After 7 blissful years of dating, I'm having the time of my life planning the destination wedding of my dreams to my Mr. Frog-turned-Prince Charming.
Those of us who stalk within the wedding world are pretty familiar with the latest trends. I love how so many couples are choosing to do a fun exit with sparklers – it makes for great photos and it’s relatively inexpensive (cha-ching).
I did some digging to see what other fun options might be out there. We might also be required by our venue to exclude sparklers. Ahem.
Has anyone had experience with Chinese wish lanterns? There’s a fantastic little company called… get this… Wish Lantern that offers wedding lanterns and has created multiple packages to appeal to all sizes of weddings. I love this look: Read more…
Mrs. Taco, San FranciscoAge and Occupation: 29, writer/editorFiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editorEngagement Date: May 13, 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans BuildingAbout Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
Our wedding venue is across the street from San Francisco City Hall, one of my favorite buildings in town. I ride by it almost every day, and I always pause to take it in. Here’s what it looks like at night from our venue’s street level:
Sure, it’s a government building filled with DMV-reminiscent lines and red tape, just like any other city hall. But this red-tape machine was also the site of some infamous events. In 1978, Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk were shot and killed here by another supervisor, Dan White. (Milk, the Oscar-winning movie about Milk’s political career, activism, and assassination, is a great watch). Riots later broke out over White’s lenient sentencing, and many people and police were injured outside as a result. The building got tore up, too.
With the good comes the bad, though. For every terrible thing that happens here, great things happen, too. Read more…
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
I realize this post doesn’t have much to do with weddings, but it is about the guy I’m marrying so I think that counts… I mentioned in my bio that my fiance is “Mr. Fix-It” without much of an explanation. So here it is:
We purchased a condo this past summer. The photo above is from the day we made our offer to purchase. The fireplace looks perfectly nice, but in person it was a giant box of wasted space. Read more…
Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FLAge and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface DeveloperEngagement Date: February 14, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Plantation Bay Country ClubAbout Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
Armed with some sweet hair inspiration (collected over the course of our engagement… 2 years!) and my Handle & Sprout hair flowers, I headed to my hair trial at the beautiful Veranda Pampering Salon this past week.
source Outside view of the Veranda Pampering Salon. Isn’t is cute? I absolutely LOVE this place. My Grandmother (Dolphin Dad’s Momma) has been going here for years and loves it, so naturally, I had to try it out! I even got to meet her stylist!

Close enough!). I'm also a recycling fanatic, fluent in bad accents and I have the loudest laughter this side of the Mississippi. I have not just one sweet tooth, but a whole mouth full of sweet teeth. I cry at 97.4% of all movies I see, but my fiance's always there to hand me a tissue. My geek-chic fiance and I are planning a wedding full of color, cookies and handmade goodness and I can't wait to spill the beans on all of our crazy ideas!
After a few lengthy discussions with some girlfriends, we’ve developed a theory. Margaritas may or may not have been involved during the theorizing process (don’t worry, we’ll be sure to list Chevy’s as a co-author if we get published). Our theory is:
The length of a courting couple’s engagement shall be directly proportional to the length of said courting couple’s relationship, as demonstrated in the graph below:
Created by moi on Excel (I know, I’m blown away too)
In other words (that aren’t as British sounding), the longer a couple’s been together, the longer they’ll be engaged. Read more…
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MDAge and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non ProfitEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Morningside InnAbout Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
It’s finally here, after twenty months. I am about to marry Mr. Pencils, the man I couldn’t have imagined if I tried hard enough—he’s more than I could have asked for and better than I ever could have dreamt of. It’s been a hectic, crazy, amazing week, and I am so excited that the day is upon us.
I meant to post many, many more “Week of the Wedding” posts—they were even titled and saved, and life just got away from me. Please forgive me for the sparse posting in the last few weeks, but as many have attested to, the final weeks before the big day go by ridiculously quickly. I’ve been blessed to have so many amazing people around me this week, including old friends who quite literally made every cookie (favor) we are giving out, and family that makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
While we were having our paparazzi moment and I was pretending that Edward Cullen was watching us from the treetops, guests began to gather at the ceremony site.
Naturally, they would be poring over our ceremony programs, killing time before the big show began. And where did these programs come from? The Pug wedding elves.
Let me come clean and say that I did not physically make the paper goodies for our wedding. I designed and typed them in Microsoft Word, but then promptly shipped the materials to my sister and brother-in-law (aka elves) out in California for assembly.
The Pug wedding elves swooped down on my wedding prep and with a wriggling of their magic fingers (and hours of hard work), they turned my ideas and blank paper into wedding reality. They were hands-down unbelievable and we absolutely would not have had the weekend that we did without their incredible help and generosity (with the paper products and far far beyond).

About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.
