Mrs. Sunrise, Minneapolis
Age and Occupation: 27, Client Relations Liaison
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Senior Technical Support Analyst
Engagement Date: December 26, 2008
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: The Oaks banquet room at Eagan Community Center
About Me: I am a crafty and optimistic, laid back girly-girl who fell in love with a video game-playin', hip hop-lovin', Lego-buildin', computer-techie nerd. I get easily distracted by shiny objects (oohhh pretty..) and I have more shoes than I can count (but I still need more). I love to shake my booty to Lady Gaga’s music but she frightens the hell outta me. Mr. Sunrise and I could not be any more different, but you know what they say… opposites attract! We met over 9 years ago while working for a local grocery store. It was love at first “Clean-up in Aisle 5!” We are both Chicago-born and raised, but recently relocated to Minnesota for his career. I will always remain a Windy City gal through and through, but I cannot deny my love for the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
A while back, Mr. Sunrise and I were discussing the possibility of having a garter toss at our reception, and he declared that he definitely wanted to include this age-old tradition in our wedding.
[source]
He seemed quite excited about it so I said, “Okay, that’s fine with me.” I imagined it being rather sweet, with my mister gracefully removing the garter with his hands, and then victoriously holding it over his head for all to see. Our guests would then erupt in cheers because my new husband is just so incredibly suave.
Ha! That imagination bubble was quickly popped when he told me that he would not be using his hands because the proper way to remove a garter is with your TEETH!

Mrs. Paisley, Orange County, CA
Age and Occupation: 25, Journalist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Spanish Professor
Engagement Date: September 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Family Lake House
About Me: From my earliest days I attracted attention, as much for my intelligence as for beauty. I display an originality, a perspicacity, a certain je ne sais quoi that sets me apart. I posses a mysterious authority which compels people to do my bidding. I am a regal blonde with classic features and the daintiness of Dresden porcelain. I am poised, soft-spoken, and well educated... Okay, now that enough eyebrows have sufficiently shot through the roof, everybody can relax---I kid! I'm just a sarcastic NorCal-turned-SoCal girl who loves outdoor activities, books, letterpress printing and of course, Professor Paisley.
That’s right, ladies, she has her MOB outfit!
We had a difference of opinion when it came to our idea of a MOB outfit. Let’s just say I have an abhorrence of simple, button-down white blouses when it comes to a MOB ensemble and let’s leave it at that!
Let me be clear: it was nothing that resulted in a fight or even a tiff, it was just a misunderstanding that was resolved after we were able to flip through some magazines and inspiration photos together (note: Mama P really gets a kick out of phrases like “inspiration photos”… but, I probably would too, if I weren’t the bride obsessed with them!).
After an in-person perusal of my mom’s favorite catalogs, we were quickly on the same page. Here’s one photo I gave her for inspiration, although I’m not sure whether it factored into the decision-making or if it instead ended up floating around in email abyss:

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Indiana Memorial Union
About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
I’ve been hush hush about rings since my slight meltdown over the Dior ring. I mourned it and moved on with a little help from a small jeweler out of Philly, Bario-Neal.
They use recycled metals in their rings, have pretty affordable prices, and Ribs and I could get matching rings. Yay. I ended up with the Milla thin band in white gold and Ribs got the Milla round. Best of all, Bario-Neal shipped the rings in adorable glass bottles!

Mrs. Frog, Phoenix, AZ/Chelan, WA
Age and Occupation: 29, Public Relations
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Online Sales
Engagement Date: February 8, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Amy's Manor
About Me: I'm an opinionated Midwestern girl now living in the Valley of the Sun marrying a laid back Northwestern guy. I'm equal parts sass, silly and sweet. I'm fiercely loyal with a strong devotion to my family and friends. I have a not-so-secret obsession with apple juice, a new obsession with DIY projects and I love a really good cheese plate...with lots of wine. After 7 blissful years of dating, I'm having the time of my life planning the destination wedding of my dreams to my Mr. Frog-turned-Prince Charming.
Naked should be reserved for the wedding night… sorry Mom… and Grammie. Moving on.
Although we knew early on what our centerpiece inspiration was, we really had no clue what we were going to do about linens. Or even if we were going to spring for linen rentals. Our venue offered white linens, albeit they weren’t floor length… but they were our favorite wedding word: free.

Ms Seahorse, Boston
Age and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-trades
Fiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something better
Engagement Date: October 17, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Fort Pond Lodge
About Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
In our relationship, I would say that while Fancee is the packer of the household (we moved last week, and I think I had packed three boxes total. and it was all *my* stuff, not *our* stuff), I am the wedding planner. Surprise, surprise – like you couldn’t tell by the fact that I’m the one with the wedding blog, and she’s not. Shocker.
Anyway, when we finally agreed to get married, the venue search began. I felt like we couldn’t do any planning until we knew where we were getting married – the where would tell us the when, it would tell us the feel and whether we had to travel and whether it would be inside or outside, and therefore what we would wear… basically, at the time, I felt that everything was based on our venue.
Funny enough, often I find myself feeling like we can’t possibly do another bit of planning until we figure some thing out – right now it’s invitations. But back to the venue:
I started a frantic search for venues. I Googled, I emailed, I got really involved with my spreadsheets.

I fell briefly in love with a couple of places. The two major ones were The Red Barn and Old Dana Farmstead. I found the Red Barn after seeing a wedding held there on SoYoureEnGayged – it looked amazing, and very us.

Mrs. Cub, Chile/Portland
Age and Occupation: 26, Astronomer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Astronomer
Engagement Date: May 10, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Westwind YWCA camp
About Me: I'm a small-town girl who's making a living in Chile, with her heart in the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Southern California, went to high school in Texas, grad school in New Mexico, and now I can't wait to settle down in Oregon! I love pears, hazelnuts,
knitting, traveling, running, baking, and long talks on the phone with
good friends. I'm planning my Oregon coast summer camp wedding while
abroad with my best friend - I'm always at home when I'm with him!
Incidentally, while I was getting ready to leave Chile for our month in the states of wedding bliss, I was also in the middle of reading Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point. This is a fascinating book, very light-hearted yet genuine (perfect for the week before the wedding!). Mr. Gladwell posits that there is a “moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point” in which little things that previously seemed insignificant prove to make a big difference (as states the byline).

source: wiki
Mr. Gladwell’s first example has to do with the curious rise in popularity of Hush Puppies (holy cow are they popular in Chile). As I was sitting in the La Serena airport, packed and ready to board my plane to weddingland, it became evident that I, too, was approaching a tipping point in our voyage.
Our flight was canceled.
CANCELED.

Mrs. Taco, San Francisco
Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor
Engagement Date: May 13, 2009
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building
About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
Mr. Taco and I have an appointment at SF City Hall to get a marriage license. It only takes $98, some identification, and 30 minutes in a magical place where wonderful and not-so-wonderful things have happened. Beforehand, you download the form and fill out the particulars, including your new married name. It’s pretty straightforward so far, but I have yet to stand in what is surely a DMV-style waiting room.
(For the record, I will be First Name – Maiden Name as Middle – Married Name as Last. I’ll nonetheless go by all three, instead of pretending my middle name doesn’t exist. Sadly, none of these is actually “Taco”.)
I addressed the idea of marriage bans in a previous post. Now, I’ve been considering another seemingly odd aspect of the marriage thing: the idea that everyone who does it legally needs a license to do so.
A license is a legal document that gives you permission to do something. Yadda yadda yadda. I get why we need most of them. My drivers’ ed teacher drilled it into our heads at 15: driving is a privilege, not a right. So, you take tests and swear that when you get behind the wheel of your two-ton vehicle, you’ll do your best not to harm anyone. It doesn’t mean people don’t break the rules, but I like the idea of drivers being vetted before they take to the streets.

Mrs. Turtle, Central California
Age and Occupation: 21, Art Student/Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English Student
Engagement Date: August 16, 2008
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CA
About Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
The envelopes have been addressed and sealed and the stamps have been placed! Our invitations, the project I have labored over for well, about as long as we’ve been engaged, are out of our hands and into the hands of our guests! This also means that I am done teasing you and ready to reveal… which I plan to do in just two posts!

Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles
Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Calamigos Ranch
About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
We arrived at the venue half an hour early (three hours before the scheduled ceremony time), but there were already guests milling about the property. GASP! Claudia, our ceremony site coordinator, quickly whisked us away into the bridal dressing room so I didn’t get waylaid by the early birds.

(Puh-leez. There will be no hugging the bride until my wedding dress is on, thank you!)
And speaking of my wedding dress, I’d like to show you my “something new…”

Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego
Age and Occupation: 28, Professor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor
Engagement Date: December 20, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant
About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
Our first wedding present came this weekend! Strange because we hadn’t even mailed our invitations when we received the gift, and the person who sent the gift didn’t receive a save the date. But that’s another story, saved for another post. Gifts are pretty exciting when they’re unexpected. We definitely appreciate this gift!

Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer
Engagement Date: March 5, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA
About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
{Source}
All along, I’ve never intended to have a bachelorette party. I know they can be fun, and I would have considered a joint party with Mr. Cola, but all of our wedding party is from out of state, and I certainly wouldn’t want them to travel here just for a party. Plus, I’ll be going out and doing something low key with one or two of my bridesmaids the Wednesday night before our wedding anyway.
I guess, for me, I’ve just never gotten the point.

Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas
Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader
Engagement Date: March 19, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas
About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
Like Mrs. Cowboy Boot, I’m contemplating selling my wedding dress.

Source: Modern Life Studios
I talked to Mr. Fro Yo about it. See, he is very practical and realized that there was money to be made from items we would no longer need. So, the minute we got back from our honeymoon he asked when I was going to post things from the wedding to sell. I mentioned selling my dress, and he said, “Oh no you don’t have to do that. Girls like to keep their dresses for whatever it is they do with them.” And he’s so right. What the hell am I going to do with it?
