Mrs. Swan, New York City
Age and Occupation: 31, Legislative Representative
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance Guy
Engagement Date: August 9, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2009
Venue: Battery Gardens
About Me: I am an un-crafty but resourceful, Caribbean-born but New York-raised woman who's been known to analyze "Dancing with the Stars" and “So You Think You Can Dance”, buy stinky cheese, and use way too many parentheses. I keep lists for fun, am constantly daydreaming of my next international travel adventure (four continents down, three to go), debating sports (let’s Got Mets/Giants!) and dancing around my apartment to stay sane. I am excited to share our wedding planning journey as I hope to plan a streamlined, personal, and fun wedding with the greatest life partner I could ever imagine, Mr. Swan.
Hey there, hive! I’ve got a story for you. I don’t really know how to address this issue, since it touches on some feelings that I’ve been harboring since oru wedding. I am slowly coming to terms with this a full NINE months AFTER my wedding. What is troubling me so? My dress.
Honestly, I liked my dress. I liked it a lot… but I can’t help but feel that I lost out on some bridal rite of passage by not buying a brand name/designer dress.
By the way, just in case you forgot, here’s my dress, which is also Mrs. Nachos’ dress. Great minds…

Mrs. Hamster, New York City
Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy
Engagement Date: March 9, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Pierre Hotel
About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
Like several bees before me, I was enchanted by accordion-fold programs. When I saw a packet of 11″x17″ paper on sale at Paper Presentation, I knew it was meant to be. I purchased some navy cardstock (both glittery and matte), pulled out the trusty Gocco, and got to work on the covers.

I like having options.

It’s not you, it’s me.
Just kidding. But seriously, you’ve probably noticed some issues in the past couple hours on the site. Without going into too much technical detail, our domain registrar company screwed up and pointed our domain servers to another company’s domain servers. We’re not sure what the root cause was at this point, but they’ve assured us that they’re fixing the problem.
We’re working with our domain registrar to get this fixed for you all as quickly as possible!
It may take several hours for some of you for the site to appear normal again, but rest assured we’re working with our domain registrar to get this fixed as fast as possible.
Let us know if you have questions and we’ll do our best to answer them!

Update: Everything looks good and back to normal on my end and I’ve been able to work on Weddingbee for a while. If you’re still experiencing problems, clearing your cache will probably do the trick!
Mrs. Octopus, Boston, MA/Pittsburgh, PA
Age and Occupation: 25, Grad Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Graphics Operator for TV News
Engagement Date: May 6th, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heinz Chapel Ceremony, Museum Reception
About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
I have a wedding dilemma. It is dog-related.
Okay, so here are the basics of the situation. As I’ve mentioned before, we are basically having a mini-destination wedding; neither Mr. Octopus and I, nor almost any of our friends and family live in Pittsburgh. Mr. Octopus and I have complicated travel plans for the week of the wedding: on the Wednesday before, we’re taking a one-way flight from Boston to my hometown in upstate New York, then driving in a big caravan of family down to Pittsburgh. Then, the Monday after, we’re taking another one-way flight from Pittsburgh back to Boston. I’m also expecting that those few days leading up to the wedding will be very busy, filled with lots and lots of errands to run, things to do, and people to see.
So here’s the dilemma: do we bring Daffodil to Pittsburgh with us, or do we put her in a kennel?
There are valid arguments for both sides.

Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot
Engagement Date: February 21, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery
About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
Many moons ago it seems, I posted about an amazing deal we had found on a wedding band for Mr. Jelly. It was a white gold and platinum band from Macy’s, and it was perfect – or so we thought.

It was actually a half-size too big, and every jeweler we went to said that resizing it would be risky because of the white gold-platinum combination. We briefly toyed with the idea of adding sizing beads to the ring, but decided against it. Ultimately, we didn’t want to take the risk of re-sizing so we returned the ring, and it was back to the drawing board.

Ms Seahorse, Boston
Age and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-trades
Fiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something better
Engagement Date: October 17, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Fort Pond Lodge
About Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
Get it? “T” is for take me? But I’m going to talk about tea? Oh I’m so clever I can hardly stand it, and I’m sure you can’t either.
So, tea. For the past several years I have been an herbal tea addict. You can only drink so many cups of coffee before you get jittery, and herbal tea comes in a nice variety of flavors and doesn’t give you the shakes. Plus it’s a nice warmth when you live somewhere without heat (thanks, Mom, for raising me at a steady temperature of 55 degrees). Anyway, you get the idea – I liked herbal tea. I drank coffee for that whole being awake-thing. I considered myself a coffee person with a healthy appreciation for tea.
And then Fancee ruined everything.

Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer
Engagement Date: June 27, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, Honolulu
About Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
Last weekend Mr. Sew, Friend-T and myself got to visit the Bay Area Maker Faire for the second year in a row!
If you think a DIY convention is amazing on its own, just try going to one when you’ve got a permanent wedding-brain! It was overwhelming in a good way, full of crafts and projects and interesting ideas.
Plus, I got to meet Cricut, in person!
Sorry for the blur, this was taken half a second before someone from church bumped into Mr. Sew, causing him to try and hide his crafty interests in some sort of crazy embarrassed spasm.
Anyway, there were a lot of really amazing exhibits this year, but I’ll pass on the pictures of the robotic drooling tongue and focus on the crafty stuff!
Provocraft had their Cricut cake cutter out on demo, cutting some gum paste…

Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN
Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Indiana Memorial Union
About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
I’ve started an impromptu list—not of DIY projects or wedding day time lines, but things I want to do after the wedding. Part of it is to cope with post-wedding planning blues, but mostly I want a life again.
So I present to you the highlights of my “After the Wedding Resolutions”:
- Start getting weekly polish changes and monthly pedicures. This is totally selfish and wonderful.
- See plays, musicals, and ballets more. We went to only one this past year. Fail.
- Take dance classes.
- Every other weekend, do a museum or otherwise historic thing in or around DC. I’ve lived here for 2 years and still haven’t done everything. That must change.
- Buy records.
- Volunteer.

Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI
Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant
Engagement Date: January 1, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Narragansett Towers
About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
As a bride, I get the sense that I’m supposed to care about minutiae. And I do care about some of it. I care about vendors showing up on time, how dark my undereye circles are, and how much pizza I’ll be able to eat in a wedding dress. I care about dancing our first dance to Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way I Am” and my hair not being frizzy. I care—probably an unhealthy amount—about not inconveniencing anyone; I care about our guests have a rocking time (a good thing to care about).
But some things I can’t bring myself to care about, even if I try. This is a story about one of those things.
This might be a hot-button issue so I’ll prepare myself for nay-sayers. It’s okay. Difference of opinions is one of those things that makes our nation great, and keeps wedding planning interesting.
A couple days ago, Mr. Potato Head and I found ourselves in a men’s clothing store—let’s call it Svenn’s Beerhouse. We were looking for a white French-cuffed shirt for his suit.
“I’m assuming your dress is white,” said the salesman.
“Well, it’s ivory,” was my answer.

About Me: I’m a type A creative with a messy streak, a loud mouth, and an uncanny knack for combining clashing patterns. I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka
Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
On Saturday we decided to get domestically partnered to celebrate Harvey Milk Day. And, um, because we love each other and stuff. Luckily domestic partnership ain’t marriage so we were able to do this spontaneously on a Saturday in California.
I think the fact that we didn’t need to obtain a license, have witnesses, or have any type of ceremony strongly attests to the fact that even the state doesn’t really consider this domestic partnership business to be equal to marriage. I’m just saying…
So what exactly did we do to become domestically partnered in CA?
First we filled out this form:

Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont
Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer
Engagement Date: August 2008
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception
About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
A long, long time ago, when I was still a naive bride-to-be who thought all of my DIY aspirations would come to fruition, I purchased these pillar candlesticks:

At the time, I thought that these might serve as the base for our centerpieces, and I bought the two of them to work on some prototypes. I have since abandoned the idea, opting for a professional to put together our tall centerpieces. I didn’t want these to go to waste though, so I decided to use them to spruce up our guestbook table. I turned those candlesticks into these beautiful arrangements…

Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: New York Botanical Garden
About Me: I love all things food, books, our furbaby, Rashi, and adventures with my amazing fiance (oh, and saving the world!). This summer I will not only be a bride, but a bridesmaid, officiant, and attendee as well---it's all about weddings in my life right now, full of so many exciting moments and projects. We're planning a fab New York City wedding weekend full of family, love and lots of color!

We have our wedding bands!
I have a teeny tiny confession - we actually have had our bands for over a year - it was one of the first things that we could cross off the list relatively early on, so we went back to where Mr. Hermit Crab had gotten my engagement ring, and we picked out rings. We were in and out in 20 minutes, and we got a deal that included engraving in the cost. Thus began the saga!
It took us about a year to decide what we wanted engraved, and we finally forced ourselves to make the decision and took them back to the store.

Age and Occupation: 26, Astronomer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Astronomer
Engagement Date: May 10, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Westwind YWCA camp
About Me: I'm a small-town girl who's making a living in Chile, with her heart in the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Southern California, went to high school in Texas, grad school in New Mexico, and now I can't wait to settle down in Oregon! I love pears, hazelnuts,
knitting, traveling, running, baking, and long talks on the phone with
good friends. I'm planning my Oregon coast summer camp wedding while
abroad with my best friend - I'm always at home when I'm with him!
Hmm… over three months since my last post. I haven’t really been on my blogging game, have I? I’ve wanted so dearly to share with you our wedding. I’ve composed entire recap posts in my head - the good, the quirky, the unmatched love. But every time I spin the story in my mind’s eye, I find myself saddened by the handful of ways in which our wedding embodied anything but love. The painful memories burn in spite of the overwhelming adoration.
But I have to be real. I could gloss over our wedding with just the pictures, but then where would the soul be? Even the best wedding pictures can only aspire to capture the ecstatic and schizophrenic thoughts coursing through the minds of the bride and groom on the day of their wedding.
To wit: I cried on the morning of our wedding day. Not because I was overcome by the sight of my gown. Not because my groom sent me words of love. I cried on the morning of our wedding day because the previously misplaced decorative lighting had just been found. LIGHTING. I had wanted to create a perfect mood for our wedding dinner, but in its place I had fostered a sour mood over misplaced light bulbs. I cried because I was so immensely grateful that someone came to my rescue, that someone understood my need for… light bulbs.
I am very embarrassed that I let myself care so much about something so insignificant.
