Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
About Mrs. Lobster

Last time I threatened to send Post-itvintations. But despite being a delinquent bride-to-be, I was saved by Derek, my friend and the graphic designer at 4fifteen who is so on top of his game he quickly came back with options based on the inspiration I sent him last time, including my fave Printable Press’ Metropolitan:

The Lobster Invitations - Not Gonna Be A Post-it : wedding brooklyn invitations stationery Metropo01 Metropo01

Metropolitan

There were certain elements we wanted, including:

  1. Blend of contemporary but formal
  2. Different sized text
  3. Mix of fonts - cursive and block
  4. A simple design with mostly text (e.g. no flowers, etc.)
  5. Color palette of gray and green (we decided yellow was too difficult to use for what we want)

He came up with these awesome designs one more traditional and one more contemporary:
Traditional Formal, in lime green and navy.

4fifteen

Contemporary Formal, in lime green and gray.

4fifteen

They were two great designs, so how would we choose! I’m really happy to be in this “predicament”. At the same time, it is a reminder that this is only kick-starting the whole invitation suite including the RSVP and Reception cards, envelope liners, any other details. etc… which to be honest, is kind of giving me stomach butterflies how soon it all has to come together.

Have you been procrastinating on your invitations? What lessons did you learn from designing your invites? And which design would you choose?

i love the first one, but i’m a traditional type of gal, plus i love that font (is it gotham?). but the second one has a snazz about it that reminds me more of the printable press metropolitan and is really fun. both are awesome.

I adore #2! It’s fun an vibrant, and the script for your names adds formality.

We haven’t done invites yet, but for save the dates, I too learned I’m indecisive. My designer sent tons of proofs and re-dos and they we all great, but when we hit one that was perfect I knew it was right.

I agree with others, Contemporary seems to have the most character, even though both are similar. Beautiful and elegant!

I love the traditional formal. I think the combo of colors and lines makes it modern. But they’re both gorgeous.

I’m jumping off the bandwagon and voting for #1. I agree w/ @el0624 that choice #1 still looks modern, but in a more simple, less busy sort of way.
