Mrs. Paisley's Picture
Mrs. Paisley, Orange County, CA Age and Occupation: 25, Journalist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Spanish Professor Engagement Date: September 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Family Lake House About Me: From my earliest days I attracted attention, as much for my intelligence as for beauty. I display an originality, a perspicacity, a certain je ne sais quoi that sets me apart. I posses a mysterious authority which compels people to do my bidding. I am a regal blonde with classic features and the daintiness of Dresden porcelain. I am poised, soft-spoken, and well educated... Okay, now that enough eyebrows have sufficiently shot through the roof, everybody can relax---I kid! I'm just a sarcastic NorCal-turned-SoCal girl who loves outdoor activities, books, letterpress printing and of course, Professor Paisley.
About Mrs. Paisley

I think I waited until a month before our wedding to show you guys my dress because I was secretly worried some readers would criticize me for picking such a ubiquitous dress. Yuppers, mine is an extremely popular one… as the bridal shop informed me, and the alterations place, and many people around wedding blogosphere.

Actually, my seamstress ever-so-slightly-passive-aggressively informed me it is not popular anymore. So maybe I have nothing to fear! According to her, it’s practically vintage! She got, and I quote, “thousands, literally thousands of this dress like two, three years ago.”

Sweet! Not only has everybody and her sister worn my dress, but now it’s old, too! ;)

You know what I say to that? What-freakin’-ever! I fell in love with my dress two years ago after seeing it in a magazine, and despite trying on dozens of others, I couldn’t find another I love more.

And so without further ado, I give you, arguably one of the most popular dresses of the ’10s, (and for good reason):

The Melissa Sweet Lia

Please ignore my un-makeuped, un-hair-did, early morning face with puffy eyes. Ugh.

Focus instead on the back, in all its whipped cream-like, buttery, double-faced satin glory:

Woah. Is my back really that huge? Yes, yes it is. But it’s good for things like sports and amateur hatchet-throwing contests:

I came in something like 3rd place, and I’d like to thank my huge back.

Anyway, here’s a photo of the veil I’m wearing. It’s a cathedral-length Jennifer Leigh “Corby” veil. I like that “Corby” is only one letter removed from Professor P’s actual name. ;)

Next up, I’ll need help from all of you ladies in deciding where to place my veil. High up near the top of my head like in the picture? Or lower on the back of my noggin?

Stay tuned for pictures of my hair, makeup, dress and veil in one great big, happy trial run!

Did you choose a popular or, as some in the wedding blogosphere say, “overdone” wedding item, whether it was a dress, veil, color scheme, or other element for your big day? Did you have any regrets about your choice to go a popular route?

L.O.V.E. your dress, and how you knew it had to be yours 2 years ago. Oh, and the hatchet throwing? Totally badass. I want to be like you when I grow up!

I’m wearing the same dress! And whatever… I LOVE it, and that’s what matters! My seamstress told me the same thing– that she altered a lot of them a couple years ago. A part of me is glad that I didn’t fall in love with it at the height of its popularity, hehe. But even if I did, I probably wouldn’t care that is was so popular. I’m pretty sure none of my guests are going to think “omg, she’s wearing Lia?? That dress is sooooo over-worn!” :P

Can I just say that you make one hot hatchet thrower? I don’t think your back looks big, just nice and toned. I had the same thoughts as you when I saw pictures of myself in my strapless dress, but I think you look great. I think we all are a bit harsher on ourselves than we should be. Hooray for women with good upper body strength!

Oh and I love your dress, and I don’t remember seeing before.

Ditto what Miss Veggie said…you are one sexy hatchet thrower! And I don’t think that dress is overdone…I love it! Honestly, what are the chances any of you guests will have seen someone wear it in person? And even if they have, you will be your own gorgeous self wearing it completedly differently than any other bride ever.

Ohhhhhhhh, it’s so beautiful, yay!!! And first of all, you are an effin’ skinny-minnie there, lady, so get outta here with the comments on your back…And you know what? There’s a reason that dress is popular, bc it’s gorgeous and flattering and pretty much a perfect wedding dress!

What a pretty dress! You don’t look like you have a huge back, though. :)

As for the veil, I’d pick the placement based on how you do your hair–let your hairdresser tell you where to put it (and if you’re doing your own hair, you’ll probably find that there is a spot that it naturally works better with).

Years from now, no one is going to look at your wedding album and say that they’ve seen that dress on everyone. You look stunningly bridal! The right dress makes YOU look even more radiant and people see YOU even more. Not the dress. I’m glad you love your dress! You look fab woman!

I love your dress. I often think back and say I would get that very dress you are wearing for our wedding if I hadn’t already bought my dress (and had our wedding for that matter. lol). Don’t worry about something being ‘overdone’ in the Wedding biz. Each bride brings her own character and beauty to a dress. And the dress fits each bride differently. You look awesome in the dress. Good choice!!!

Your back isn’t huge. It’s AWESOME!!! There is a *difference* ;;)

Unfortunately nowadays people don’t appreciate athletic bodies, but I do - they are pretty, slender but strong, in other words utterly sexyyyyyyyy!!!!
