About Mrs. Cloud

So where were we? Oh yes, the final picture of the ceremony rehearsal…

Up and Away: An Embarrassed Bride : wedding pictures recap richmond Rehearsal9 Thumb1 rehearsal9_thumb1

It looks innocent enough. The boys are over it, Mr. Cloud is intently listening to final instructions and our Priest is about to get to the part where we are introduced as husband and wife and practice the walk back down the aisle. But what you can’t tell from looking at this picture is that I am panicking. Remember back to the bridal tea when I told you how when I am nervous or stressed I react in a strange way? Oh yes, I’m going there. It was happening: I was about to get sick.

The church coordinator was talking, Mr. Cloud said something to me, but I was starting to panic and sweat a little, all I could think about was who is in charge of cleaning up vomit in a church—super romantic stuff for a wedding rehearsal. Mr. Cloud immediately knew something was wrong. He whispered to hang in there because he knew the next thing we had to do was practice our exit to a back room that was conveniently located next to the restrooms. People were still giving us instructions and I was starting to get light headed. I had stopped responding for fear of opening my mouth. I couldn’t wait. I dropped the ribbon bouquet AND. I. RAN. Like, out of my heels. I was mortified before I even got to the bathroom. I was puking and crying by the time my MOH got into the bathroom behind me. She was nice enough to say that it wasn’t that big of a deal, but let’s be serious here, if the bride runs off of the altar, people notice. Mama Cloud quietly told a few people that I was sick and would be OK, and we had warned our planner Windy that this might happen as well. After puking before dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, graduations, and every other major event in my life that causes nerves, we wanted to be as prepared as you can be for these things. I just never thought it would happen right in the MIDDLE of the rehearsal! So Windy and the church coordinator kept things moving. Oh, and luckily no one told me until a few months later (and a bit of my mortification had worn off) that someone made a comment about me being pregnant. Which I’m not now nor was I then, but I can’t imagine the priest’s reaction to that one!

Mr. Cloud came in behind my MOH to help calm me down. And after a few minutes I really was fine. Incredibly embarrassed, but fine. It turns out that while I was in the bathroom, my cousin, our junior groomsman was having a crisis of his own. His tooth fell out while he was standing on the altar! The poor kid, but at least he wasn’t alone in the strange events!

After all the planning us brides put into our weddings there are just some things that cannot be helped, no matter what! I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, not everything about a wedding is all roses. Some of it might be pukey or bloody like ours! But there really is nothing wrong with that and I’m glad that despite being mortified I was able to laugh about it all and enjoy the rest of the night! And I had to get over it quickly, because next up was rehearsal party time!

Does anything embarrassing happen to you when you get nervous? Or do you have an embarrassing wedding story to share? Come on, I told you mine!

Oh Cloud, I’m SO with you on that. The minute nerves creep in, they go straight to my stomach. I can only hope they don’t kick in on the big day! So glad to know I’m not alone on that.

Not a wedding one but at my high school graduation I was accidentally hit in the mouth with a cane and started gushing blood in the church and had to run out while everyone started. As if at 17 that would not be bad enough but in our class picture I had a huge fat lip and ice in my hand. Needless to say my mom was very unhappy about the picture.

Mine is related more to a phobia sort of reaction than nerves. But I faint. I have fainted a grand total of 7 times and counting. I get over heated, sweat and next thing I know I’m waking up on the floor. Most embarrassing ones were in school (worst: Junior High cafeteria, the other High School math class). My fear is fainting at my wedding. Most that will be there are aware of my fainting issues. I will just have to make sure to go to the bathroom before I take that walk to my groom. If I don’t and I do faint… well embarrassing accident here I come.

I’m sorry, nerves hit us all so differently! At least you weren’t sick the rest of the night, what a relief.

When I get nervous or anxious I get bright red blotches across my chest and neck. I’m so worried this will happen around ceremony time when all eyes are on me and pictures are being taken. I plan on wearing my hair down (partly to obscure blotches and partly because I just prefer it that way) and make sure I have at least a bit of a tan.

I always have to pee really badly when I get nervous, even if I just went, so when I graduated from high school and was about the get my diploma, I could feel it coming. Apparently my muscles just weren’t up for the challenge that day because a little started going down my legs! No one noticed (thank god) and I kept my composure after. Oh nerves… you suck.

Oh naaaoooo Cloud! I would have been so embarrassed too! Like Shyness76, I am also a fainter, although mine generally comes from needles/blood/medical stuff instead of nervousness. However, I am VERY familiar with that lightheaded, sweating, “gotta get out of this situation RIGHT NOW” feeling and it is NO fun.

I think that’s one of those things that wasn’t funny then, and might not even be now… but years from now, you’ll be laughing (and telling the story to your kids!)!

But major kudos to you for at least knowing it was a possibility and telling the shot-callers that it could happen so when it did, they were ready. And also major kudos for handling it as well as it sounds like you did. Hope you got it all out then…!

Re: kbp2009

I also do the red blotchy thing too. I read somewhere here on the boards that taking benadryl for a couple of day before the event helps. I plan on trying it.

Oh Mrs. C….I will tell you a story and if you knew me you would be rolling on the floor laughing hysterically.
My FI and I are not having sex before marriage. Saying that, we went on a weekend cabin retreat with some friends and we stayed in the same room, same bed…etc.
Well I had a bit too much to drink (I swear it was one glass of wine…maybe two. And one shot of tequila…okay maybe two shots…)
Well FI had already gone to bed and when I got in bed I was feeling frisky. Then I passed out.
The next morning FI looks at me and says “Are you embarrassed yet?” I had no idea what he was talking about.
He said, “You fell asleep and then ten minutes later you got up and peed on the floor! Then you layed across the bed sideways and kept saying ‘FI this is how I always sleep! You’re lying the wrong way!”.
Yes…I peed on the floor and I had no idea that I had done it. Sleep walking? Maybe. Drunken stupor? Possibly.
Let the laughing begin.

Oh man, these stories are priceless! Cloud, we’ve all been in that kind of scenario, in one way or another, thanks for sharing bc honestly, it’s pretty funny to hear! I’m glad you were able to recover from it, hopefully it got rid of the nerves and you were able to enjoy your rehearsal from there on!

Wow I am so sorry. Your story was probably not ment to be humorous but it did make me laugh a little because I know exactly how you feel! :) I am SO terrified of giving speeches, standing in front of peopel, ect. My junior year of college I found out I had to take a speech course. I applied to a different university that did not require this course for my major and I got accepted. I almost transferred to a place 7hrs from the university I was attending. Crazyness, all for one class. I actually talked ot my doctor and I got a prescription for propranolol. Its a beta blocker that blocks adrenaline. I HAD to have it for speech or I too would have been puking during it. Seriously I cannot tell you how much it has changed my life. It is completely harmless and I take it 3 or 4 times a year for big events. Now that I have so much practice with speeches ect, I dont even need it but still take it as a precaution every once in awhile. And will probably use it the day of my wedding :)

Aww! Cloud! Poor thing!

I have irrational fears of passing out. I’ve never passed out, but I’m always like, doing squats whenever I’m in other people’s weddings or standing at a podium b/c of this fear. The fear actually makes any symptom of nerves magnify b/c I think I’m passing out.

I have stress-related stomach issues too, but mine tends to be of the heartburn/stomach churning variety.
