I Still Like You.

I Still Like You. : wedding ceremony georgia readings Itsnoty1 itsnoty

Remember how I’m in love with I Like You? Remember how I wanted to have part of it read at our wedding ceremony? Well, das not gonna happen.

Yesterday, we planned out our ceremony with our minister, and we just couldn’t find a spot for it. Even after shortening, it still never found a good place as not to break up the flow of the whole ceremony. So, like the take-action bride that I now have [sort of?] become, I Like You has landed on the cutting room floor. Never fear, we still have two other lovely readings, one of which was non-negotiable in our original plan, and another that we chose from the Bible. We are getting married in a church, after all.

Our first reading, to be read by our minister, is Song of Solomon 8:6-7. Mr. Scissors and I had several SoS and Ecclesiastes readings picked out, but this was the one we agreed to be the best and most appropriate for us.

Song of Solomon 8:6-7

Place me like a seal over your heart,
like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
its jealously unyielding as the grave.
It burns like a blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.

Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot wash it away.
If one were to give
all the wealth of his house for love,
it would be utterly scorned.

It’s romantic, but not floo-floo romantic. It’s just serious and pretty dang awesome. High-fives all around.

Our second reading, to be read by a reader, is one of our love poems. You may have heard me throw it around before. A cookie goes to anybody that split-second guesses it before you see it typed below.

i love you much(most beautiful darling)

i love you much(most beautiful darling)

more than anyone on the earth and i
like you better than everything in the sky

-sunlight and singing welcome your coming

although winter may be everywhere
with such a silence and such a darkness
noone can quite begin to guess

(except my life)the true time of year-

and if what calls itself a world should have
the luck to hear such singing(or glimpse such
sunlight as will leap higher than high
through gayer than gayest someone’s heart at your each

nearness)everyone certainly would(my
most beautiful darling)believe in nothing but love

Of course we’re using this. How could we not throw in e.e. cummings? (Besides the whole “i love you much” deal some of you may know I have going on!)

Part of me feels a little guilty for cutting I Like You, but the other part—the logical part that knows that readings don’t have feelings for me to hurt and that we don’t want a ceremony that lasts two billion hours—knows that it was a good and sound decision.

Did you cut out previously-planned readings from your ceremony? Did you feel weird about it, or am I just a strange bird?

Your choices are perfect!

And it wasn’t all for nothing- I sought out that adorable little I Like You book after reading about your love for it and gave it to Mr. Thimbz for Valentine’s Day/Anniversary. Its a great little inspiration piece.

I love that ee cummings poem. We are only having one reading, “Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog,” which was completely non-negotiable. Very excited about it!

What about putting the book out on your guest book table or on your gift table, then it can still be a part of your day, just at your reception instead.

Here, our programs always include the full text of the mass, pretty much. Could you include some passages you like that way? Or framed on guest table, etc. Although it sounds like you’re happy enough with decision.

I’ve just noticed you’re this month, so any decision that’s complete is a good one! Best of luck!

I love your two readings!
Sad day for “I Like You”, but it sounds like you’ve made peace with it. Your ceremony is going to be beautiful!

We’re using a shortened version of “I like you” as one of our readings… I’ve never seen anyone else use it for that so it’s cool that you even considered it!

wow, how have I never seen that ee cummings? I love his work and was determined to use something for the wedding… we ended up using:

love is a place
& through this place of
love move
(with brightness of peace)
all places

yes is a world
& in this world of
yes live
(skilfully curled)
all worlds

for the programs. And we’re having my sister read “I Like You.” I understand not being able to squeeze it in, though — it’s awfully long and will make up 1/2 of our ceremony, LOL.

oh, I love those two readings! We’re actually using the first one as well, but we’re not permitted any secular readings, so the ee cummings was out :(

We haven’t gotten that far yet, but haven’t even decided what to use. We thought about bits and pieces from I Like You, but really don’t know how and where it will fit.

I think your ceremony will be meaningful regardless, but I know it wasn’t easy to cut it out.

Great choices! Love SoS and love e.e. Great choice of verse, too!

I think you made a good choice! We haven’t had to cut anything yet, as we are still figuring out our entire ceremony! Eep!

Bummer. I love the readings you ended up choosing though! They are still really, great unique choices! If you still have your heart set on using “I Like You” though, you could probably find another cool place to include a quote from it, maybe in your programs or something?

Ahhh, Song of Solomon; that book will definitely be making an appearance in our ceremony. Your selection is beautiful.

I have been surprised by how enthusiastically FI is into “I Like You” as I’ve been including it in a list of potential ceremony readings for most of the last year - it may end up working its way in.

I LOVE the readings you did choose! And I have a sneaking suspicion that when we actually hash out our ceremony the same thing might happen to us- we’ll see how many of our “ideas” become reality.
AND totally unrelated- what fonts are the “It’s not you It’s me” at the top of this post??
