Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Get Your Garter On

June 2nd, 2010 @ 6:08 pm by Mrs. Argyle

First off, we are not doing the garter toss or bouquet toss. I originally did not plan on wearing a garter at all, but found myself swooning over a lot of the awesomely designed garters from Florrie Mitton and Julianne Smith. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy a garter when I knew we weren’t partaking in the tossing tradition (of which really bothers me – the tradition, that is).

On a whim I entered a blog contest expecting to not win. Lets be honest, I never win anything. Ever. Not the lottery, nothing on the radio, zilch.

One sunny morning (we can pretend it was sunny, okay?), I got a lovely little surprise announcing that I had one the contest. Score!

So, what did I win?

After a crazy situation with the USPS (who happens to not be my friend at the moment), my garter finally arrived from the UK!

I could not be more excited about this garter. And, while I won’t be tossing it, I will be excitedly wearing it all day long!

Are you partaking in the garter toss tradition? Or did you “toss” that one out the door?

we haven’t decided yet if we are!! I would like to, but I don’t want my fiance to go “hunting” and take it off with his teeth…let’s face it, that would be slightly awkward in front of 400 ppl ((& his uber Catholic family)).

I’m with mebless on this one. While I like the idea of keeping with tradition (and I think a lot of fun photos come out of the bouquet and garter tosses), I feel like this one is kind of antiquated (more fitting for back in the day when sliding a garter off the leg was considered really risque–everyone is so much more desensitized now).

I think what we’re going to do is have the garter toss, but I’ll take it off beforehand, rather than having my fiance go fishing for it under my dress. I would feel so awkward in front of my parents!

We’re not doing the garter toss, but I kind of want a garter! I can’t bring myself to spend the money on something that NO ONE will see though, haha.

Congrats on winning such a beautiful garter! I love the lace and the bow and the polka dots! How pretty and girlie! My husband was very classy with the garter toss…no head up the dress or taking it out with his teeth! And the pictures with the couple who caught the garter and bouquet are so cute! It happen to be an engaged couple who caught both! And my garter was a Pittsburgh Steelers one and the guy who caught it made a funny face when we put our thumbs up for the picture…i guess hes an Eagles fan!

I love Florrie Mitton’s garters!!! I would have picked the very same one. I asked Mr. T just now if he wants to do a garter toss and he said “uh, sure!” So I guess we’ll do one.

@D.Marie: Steelers? really? ;)

Lucky you & congrats on your win! That sure is a pretty garter. I will not be wearing a garter, nor tossing a bouquet. Just not my style.

I got a florrie mitton garter too! mine is one of the embroidered antique lace style ones with blue ribbon bow and dangly rhinestone accent. i LOVE it!!! i considered the polka dot one that you got too. I personally have no issues with the bouquet and garter toss and we will be doing that, but I will get a cheap garter for the actual toss.

It’s very cute! What a lucky gal you are; maybe your luck is changing and you’ll start winning things left and right!
