Give Me Down to There Hair

June 3rd, 2010 @ 5:29 pm by Mrs. Scissors

In my previous hair posts, I kept assuming that I had to do an up-do. Georgia in June? Up-do, or else there will be floofy frizzy fly-aways. Problem: I couldn’t ever envision myself with a bridal up-do. Couldn’t do it. While pouting and flipping through my inspiration folders crammed full of gorgeous brides, I re-discovered this gorgeous bride with super-straight down-to-there hair, and was determined to be a down-do bride.

So yes. My crazy butt will be wearing my hair down in June. Before you write me off as being totally off my rocker, I have some things in my corner that will help me make this work.

  1. I’m getting a Brazilian hair-straightening treatment. No, not the one that is packed with formaldehyde, the other less-scary one. Even though my hair is super-straight on its own, with sweat and humidity, I get baby curls and fly-aways. This will help my hair to be as stick straight as possible. Added bonus? It will supposedly make my fine hair appear to be thicker. Winsky!
  2. I’m getting extensions. My hair is already pretty dang long. It’s grown out a good 4 inches below my collar bones. However, it’s pretty fine, thin, and isn’t as thick as the bottom as I’d like. Extensions will add some more much-needed hair, and while I’m at it, some extra length. 18? and color 1b, if anyone cares.
  3. My hair magician is rescuing me on the wedding day. Months ago, when I first started talking wedding hair with Luke, my hairstylist, he said that he wouldn’t be able to do my hair for the wedding. Hola, burst bubble. He never did weddings because it was too expensive to comp a whole day’s work and tips, plus the extra crazy bride and bridal party stress. WELL. A few weeks ago, my puppy dog eyes did their work, the planets aligned, and Luke has the day off. So sweet, talented, awesome Luke will be trekking all the way down to LaGrange to do my hairs. I’m so excited.

I may be crazy in my goal of being a straight-haired down-do bride, but hell, it’s worth a try to be able to look and feel like myself on the wedding day. (Well, a more glammed-up and blown-out version of myself, but who’s counting?)

Who else is a down-do rather than an up-do bride? Straight, wavy, or curly? My fellow summer brides, what are you doing to protect your ‘do from the elements?

If my dress didn’t have a crazy high collar on my dress, I’d want to flash my longest-since-hs hair, but alas… One of the significant factors that contributed to our decision to get married in AVL was that I could get the stylist/salon owner (now) who did my hair in college to do my wedding hairs. I hope she does something tipping into crazy for my updo.

I am totally stoked to see your fly down-there-hair.

Imperfectly Perfect

Im a down (or mostly down) do bride! I have curly hair that is just below shoulder length and I never wear it up in normal life so I dont want to wear it up on my wedding day either. I think you will be a gorgeous down-do bride :)

I’m interested in the Brazilian hair treatment. Can you tell me more about the one you are getting? How long does the straightening last? Years? Months? I have curly hair, do you think it would ever go back to being curly after such a treatment?

I’m going to be a down-do bride, albeit in a little over a year. My FI wants it down. Plus, my dad has this thing about up-dos. He doesn’t understand why someone would want their hair to look completely different from every day life (in essence, not looking like yourself). So, I’ve decided to make them both happy and wear it down. But just like you, it’ll be blown-out perfection I hope! I might do some loose curls/waves.

Loved your post by the way, made me laugh!

Ooh, 18″! My hair is probably just a teensy bit shorter than yours (2-3 inches past collarbone), and I got 14″ extensions and they were sooooo long (it felt like).. 18″ is going to be awesomely long hair!

Jealous! I’m debating extensions… guess I’ll wait and see how long it ends up come wedding time. Right now, I’m think I want it down with soft, loose curls and a sparkly headband.

I’ll be rockin’ my hair down. I just don’t feel like myself when my hair is up. I’m leaning toward loose curls. I’m not as worried about my hair getting messed up because our wedding is in December…so as long as I stay out of the rain it should work well.

I’ll be doing a half-up/half-down hair style…. my hair doesn’t look so awesome up, and it doesn’t have much shape down, so I’ll hopefully be able to find someone who can fluff it out to look fuller!

I love extensions! I’ll be wearing mine up- even a Brazilian treatment couldn’t tame my poofy half curly hair! I’m glad the hair stars aligned for you! Can’t wait to see your hair.

I plan to wear my hair down with curls & a flower in it. In Texas, in July! I’m a little worried about that, but my plan at the moment is to stay inside with the air conditioning. My hair doesn’t really get frizzy with the humidity, but my curls might fall down. :(

I’d love to see your inspiration photo! As a stick-straight, long-haired gal myself, I’ve been struggling as to what to do with it. My stylist said there’s no way an updo would hold (i’ve just got too much of it), and I cry at the thought of cutting it off.

I am wearing my hair down too, but with a little bit of wave because my dress is a bit too fancy for my normal stick straightness. Can’t wait to see how your hair turns out. I bet it will be gorgeous!

I am wearing it down. I have naturally curly hair and plan to use a large curling iron to make it more like wavy hair or big loose curls. I am doing my own hair so this seemed better than the up-do styles I played with…plus, my wedding is a bit on the low-key side and the up-do made me look way to done-up…but I’m worried about the frizzies :o( as I am getting married in Florida in June (on Saturday). At least, we’ll be indoors for both the ceremony and reception.

That will be fun! As someone with straight hair who tried to curl it, going with the straight is a great idea :)
